Dracula's Ball 02/04/12 with THE DROWNING SEASON, CRYO-MANCER & ANNE RICE giveaways!

Free tickets to Dracula's Ball / Chance to meet Anne Rice!

We're very pleased to begin the new year by announcing two fantastic promotions for the February 4th Dracula's Ball that we think you will be very excited about.

The first is that we have a decent (but limited) supply of *free* tickets for the upcoming Dracula's Ball event. To get one, all you have to do is pre-order a copy of Anne Rice's new book, The Wolf Gift, from IsoTank. Your name will be placed on a special Wolf Gift VIP list, and you'll receive FREE admission to the Ball! Be sure to take advantage of this special offer while it lasts. When IsoTank runs out of books, they'll be out of free tickets. Here's the link to pre-order the book:

Feel free to pass that information on to other friends of your who are Anne Rice fans. It'll be the perfect chance for you to get them out to Dracula's Ball!

As if that wasn't wonderful enough, Anne and her publisher have graciously offered us five door prizes to give away in a special midnight drawing. Each of the five winners will receive a copy of The Wolf Gift, which Anne will autograph for them IN PERSON when she is in Philadelphia a few weeks later. Don't miss this exciting opportunity to win a chance to meet Anne Rice in person!

The next Dracula's Ball event takes place on Saturday, February 4th, 2012. Doors open at 9pm and our event ends at 2am. Tickets are $16 and are on sale now through Ticketmaster (online and in person), Digital Ferret (in person) and IsoTank (online, free shipping for 5 or more tickets). We'll keep our website and Facebook page updated with ticket information. Here's the link to order tickets from IsoTank:

When we met Anne Rice last month to discuss upcoming projects (and to thank her for sending us the wonderful dress we displayed at the last Dracula's Ball), she was very excited to tell us about her upcoming book, The Wolf Gift. A brand new venture into the realm of dark fiction, The Wolf Gift is a modern and passionate exploration of the world of werewolves.

Pre-order this book from IsoTank and receive a free ticket to the upcoming Dracula's Ball event in Philadelphia on February 4th, 2012. Your name will be on a special "Wolf Gift" VIP list at the venue and you'll receive FREE admission to the Ball!

At Dracula's Ball, there will be a drawing for door prizes at midnight. Five winners will receive a free copy of The Wolf Gift, which will be autographed to the winner by Anne Rice in person. The autograph will be signed in Philadelphia in mid-February.

***Artists Appearing at Dracula's Ball, February 4th, 2012***

As usual, we'll have 3 DJs spinning in 3 separate rooms, so you'll always be able to find a solid groove you can dance to. DJ Spider returns from North Carolina, DJ Miko LeStrange represents DC, and DJ Zircon comes from nearby New Jersey. Now let's meet our live bands:

CRYO-MANCER: Cryomancer is the product of the talents of frontman/guitarist Kryss Oroborus and bassist/vocalist Sparks. Completely restructured and relocated in 2009 the band has changed their sound drastically from electro to a unique hard edged, guitar driven industrial metal/coldwave style.
STAGE TIME - 10:35pm

THE DROWNING SEASON: Putting the rock back in goth-rock, this Baltimore band has been laying down sonic napalm on the dancefloor for nearly twelve years. Major influences include The Sisters of Mercy, The Mission (UK) and Fields of the Nephilim. This is their second appearance at Dracula's Ball.
STAGE TIME - 12:05am

This Ball takes place in our favorite location, Shampoo Nightclub, at 7th & Willow Streets in Philadelphia, PA (Mapquest and Google Maps info can be found on our website). As always, the Ball is open to all ages, but you must be 21+ with proper photo ID to drink. Shampoo has an on-site free parking lot but it fills up very quickly for the Ball. Check our map of available nearby parking on Facebook if you're arriving late. Personal photo cameras are welcome. Large professional camera rigs with unpleasant flash bulbs are not. Video cameras are not allowed.

This is our first Ball of 2012 and we're very excited to be offering you free tickets and personal autographs, courtesy of Anne Rice and her publisher. Join us on February 4th and you may win a chance to meet the Queen of Vampires herself!

Best wishes,

[Patrick] & Dracula's Ball Staff

Joseph Laycock's Interview w/Whitley Strieber
Eclipse of the Vampires - July 10, 2010

With the latest Twilight Saga film exploding at the box office and the books racing out of the stores, it's worth asking the question: what's going on with vampires, anyway, and Joseph Laycock ( author of Vampires Today: The Truth About Modern Vampirism - http://www.amazon.com/Vampires-Today-Truth-Modern-Vampirism/dp/0313364729 ) has the answers! Learn the truth about modern vampirism as you take a journey into the revealing subject with an expert--and led by Whitley Strieber, whose own book, the Hunger, is considered to be among the greatest of all vampire novels.

What was the inspiration for the Hunger? Did Whitley Strieber encounter some of the same vampire societies that Joseph Laycock has uncovered? Go as deep as you can go into this strange and dangerous modern lore, with a leading expert and a leading writer in the field.

Vampire Discussion at a University

In the fall (october to be exact), my university campus will hold a day of discussion devoted to the myth and history of vampires.  I wanted to ask if anyone knew of any vampire discussion groups, authors or researchers in New England or the Midwest.  We're in Southern Ohio so the closer the better but we're willing to branch out.

Speakers can include: researchers, professors, writers, discussion groups, those who believe they are vampires, people who participate in the culture or anyone who has something useful to add to the discussion.

If you know of anyone around where you live or would like to participate, I'd love to hear from you :D
