Subject:Prop 8: The Musical

See more Jack Black videos at Funny or Die

Prop 8: The Musical, created by award-winning Hairspray composer Marc Shaiman, features stars such as Jack Black and John C Reilly lampooning backers of the constitutional amendment, which limits marriage to a union between a man and a woman.

The ban was passed by voters during the November election, five months after gay weddings were legalised in the nation’s most populous state.

A number of legal challenges are seeking to overturn the amendment, which was opposed by Hollywood heavyweights including Brad Pitt and Steven Spielberg as well as President-Elect Barack Obama and California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Its passage sparked protests nationwide.

Prop 8: The Musical, directed and staged by Hairspray director Adam Shankman, features well-known stage and screen actors taking part in a Sacramento community college threatre group production.

It opens with the colourfully-dressed “California Gays and The People That Love Them” dancing and celebrating a “brand new bright Obama day” and “happy days for the gays”.

Then a black-clad crowd led by John C Reilly and Allison Janney describes how they will “spread some hate and put it in the constitution” via Proposition 8.

They claim the Bible says gay love is a sin. But Jesus Christ, played by Jack Black, intervenes to point out the Bible “says a lot of things”, including that shellfish is an abomination and it is acceptable to stone your wife or sell your daughter into slavery.

He urges them to “choose love instead of hate”.

The musical finishes with Neil Patrick Harris telling the Proposition 8 crowd about the “money to be made” from gay marriage before the entire cast unites in opposition to the ban, declaring that “gay marriages will save the economy”.

Mr Shaiman says in a note introducing the video that he is releasing the musical “six weeks later than he shoulda”.

Subject:Miami judge rules against Fla. gay adoption ban
Posted by:torasama.
Time:4:41 pm.
Mood: ecstatic!.

MIAMI (AP) — A judge on Tuesday ruled that a strict Florida law that blocks gay people from adopting children is unconstitutional, declaring there was no legal or scientific reason for sexual orientation alone to prohibit anyone from adopting.
Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Cindy Lederman said the 31-year-old law violates equal protection rights for the children and their prospective gay parents, rejecting the state's arguments that there is "a supposed dark cloud hovering over homes of homosexuals and their children."

She noted that gay people are allowed to be foster parents in Florida. "There is no rational basis to prohibit gay parents from adopting," she wrote in a 53-page ruling.

Florida is the only state with an outright ban on gay adoption. Arkansas voters last month approved a measure similar to a law in Utah that bans any unmarried straight or gay couples from adopting or fostering children. Mississippi bans gay couples, but not single gays, from adopting.

The ruling means that Martin Gill, 47, and his male partner can adopt two brothers, ages 4 and 8, whom he has cared for as foster children since December 2004.

Subject:a gay president?
Posted by:fitzwilliamlogo.
Time:1:48 pm.
where is everyone? let's talk news!

what does everyone think about the idea of having a gay president? i just read this article, http://www.365gay.com/news/poll-majority-of-voters-would-support-gay-presidential-candidate/ that talks about how 6/10 people in the USA would accept a gay president. I don't think I truly believe that number though. I mean, if it was SUCH a big deal that a woman was running and SUCH a big deal that a non-white man was running, do you really think that people would vote for a gay person? It would be GREAT if it could actually happen but I don't know if that study is right. Think about it - do you think the people just said "yes" because they think that they are "liberal" or "PC"?

hmm. something to ponder.

I am a 20 year old bisexual female from the state of Indiana in the United States. I receive newletters from the Human Rights Campaign and was recently informed of a bill introduced to the U.S. Congress that would repeal the "don't ask, don't tell" policy currently enforced among homosexuals in the United States Military. Basically, any known homosexual will be prevented from joining the military or discharged from the military simply because they are gay. This new bill, called the Military Readiness Enhancement Act, would do away with "don't ask, don't tell" and institute complete tolerance of homosexuals in the military.

I wrote to my state representative, voicing my opinion on the bill, and asking him to support it. My request was denied. Apparently, my congressman believes that "homosexual activity is prejudicial to the good order and discipline of the armed services. For that reason, [he] oppose[s] any efforts that would allow known homosexuals to enter into or continue service in the military."

Now, I'm not a naive person, and I did not expect miracles. But I do believe that this world is gradually changing. As homosexual, bisexual, and transgender people are being more open about their sexuality, we are starting to be accepted for who and what we are. Change will not happen in a day... it may not even happen in a decade.

However, we need to let our voices be heard now, so that we can start changing the future one person at a time. For this reason, I'm asking you, whoever you are, wherever you're from, and whatever your sexuality is, to write to the United States Congress in support of this bill. It may not be passed and made into law, but at least we will let the U.S. government know that gay, bi, and transgender people everywhere are willing to stand up for their rights.

If you've gotten this far, thank you for reading, and please show your support for all homosexuals in the military by writing a letter today.

Megan LeRoy

Subject:Valentines day Poll
Posted by:stargazen.
Time:12:04 pm.
Mood: good.
So as Valentines day approaches, I think this is a prime opportunity to take a minute and ask.

So what are your feelings on st. Valentines day? Do you celebrate it? Do you go out with friends and celebrate it, your boyfriend, your girlfriend, your wife your husband. What do you do and why?

Poll #435887 Valentines day Poll

Your thoughts on Valentines day:

I don’t do it, it has become too materialistic and commercial
I don’t do it, I don’t need a to tell them that I love them on ONE specific day there are other days that are special
I don’t do it, (other, please explain)
I do it because my partner/person of interest wants to
I do it, because I enjoy making my partner/person of interest happy because its Valentines day and 'that’s what I have to do'
I do it, because that way I can ask somebody out I’ve wanted to for a while
I do it, because it gives me an excuse to send somebody I would never have the guts to say I like you
I do it, because I’m a hopeless romantic, and I’ll use any excuse to show it to them

x-posted in my own journal, just thought it would be interesting to see what other people thought as well.

Subject:WorldPride 2005
Posted by:shape5.
Time:5:41 pm.
On August 2005, WorldPride is coming to Jerusalem!

Jerusalem WorldPride 2005 – a 10 days international festival – will bring together gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgenders, families and friends from throughout the word to Jerusalem, to celebrate love, life, tolerance, and hope. The 10 days will offer a wide range of activities for everyone: a lesbi-gay-bi-trans film festival, art exhibits, music concerts, an academic conference, religious services, parties, tours, and much more – and of course, the high point of the events will be an international pride parade at the heart of Jerusalem, under the theme "Love without Borders".
Sounds impossible? Well, this is what some of us thought on June 2001, at the first pride parade in Jerusalem. But the parade turned out to be a success, and since then became a new Jerusalem tradition – a moving, peaceful and meaningful community celebration, that each year sounds a different voice of love and acceptance, a voice much needed in Jerusalem, a city torn by conflict, hate and prejudice.
Jerusalem WordPride 2005 is organized by The Jerusalem Open House, Jerusalem's LGBT grassroots organization, which serves both as a community center, offering a wide range of services and activities to the LGBT community in Jerusalem, and as an organization for social change. WorldPride 2005 is your once-in-a- lifetime chance to join us in making history while having lots of fun.

What you can do:
* Go to the WorldPride official site or email info@worldpride.net for more information
* Join worldpride2005 for updates, banners and icons
* Add the banner link to your website/online journal using the code found here.
* Use the WorldPride icons found here.

* Come and join the fun!

For those of you unaware of the nature of some of the anti-gay marriage protestors that will be showing up at the happy events about to occur, let me point you to this website so you may prepare yourselves for the extreme nature of some of the opponents to gay marriage:

This is the website of the Westboro Baptist Church, an extreme Baptist church based out of Topeka, KS. led by Rev. Fred Phelps. They travel around the country in their crusade against gays.

link to their general protest schedule:

link to PDF flyer about Cambridge, MA-specific protest:

I am confident that they (and, sadly, their small children) will be carrying the highly offensive signs shown in the flyer and other similarly offensive signs. Some of their signs in the past have included phrases like "Thank God for Spet. 11", "Hail Mary" (with one man bending another man over, mimicking a sexual position), and other such nonsense. Their signs are usually too graphic to show on the news, so I wanted to spread the word here.

People in the past have organized pledge drives where people pledge a certain amount of money for each minute that these people preach. So, for every minute they preach, more money is raised for gay rights.

Please go to their website so you can be an informed citizen when their vitriolic, systemic march of hatred arrives in the first state in the nation to legalize gay marriage.

Spread this post as wide as as far as you can.
