Zooey Deschanel Says I'm With The Band

It's Almost Famous: the TV show!

Okay, so (500) Days Of Summer actress Zooey Deschanel's new project isn't exactly a TV show based on Cameron Crowe's rock pic, but it does cover some very similar territory. She's signed on to star in US cable channel HBO's new pilot, which will be based on the book 'I'm With The Band: Confessions Of A Groupie'.

Penned by Pamela Des Barres (one of the influences for Penny Lane in Almost Famous), it chronicles her adventures as she bedded musicians and movie stars in the late 1960s.

In her time, Des Barres added the likes of Mick Jagger, Jimmy Page, Don Johnson and many more to the notches on her bed post, but while the life was glamorous and exciting for a time, there was always the prospect of a younger model waiting to take her place.

The half-hour show (assuming it gets picked up beyond the pilot) will chronicle both the highs (some literal, we'd figure, given the era) and the lows in half-hour episodes.

Drunk History: Douglass & Lincoln

So this short film premiered at Sundance yesterday, and will be on HBO later this year. Zooey plays Mary Todd Lincoln, Will Ferrell is Lincoln, and Don Cheadle is Douglass. I'ts like a Zooey film reunion!

This afternoon the guys behind the Drunk History shorts, Derek Waters and Jeremy Konner came by to talk about the two shorts they have at the festival this year. Drunk History started as an online video series where a drunk person tells a story of historical significance, and then their drunk ramblings are used as lip-sync tracks for famous actors to renact these historical scenes. At the festival, the Drunk History films tell the stories of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln, and Tesla and Edison. John C Reilly, Will Ferrell, Don Cheadle, Zoe Deschanel and Crispin Glover star in the shorts, which the filmmakers told me got a good reception at their first screening this morning. Waters said that the comments were of a different variety than the stuff they normally see on YouTube, which he seemed to enjoy. The shorts will debut on HBO later this year.

New York News

It appears that Zooey and Ben are in New York this week. On Sunday, they went to a screening of the movie The Private Lives of Pippa Lee.

Earlier the same day, Zooey and JGL were at a screening of "(500) Days of Summer," apparently to build Oscar buzz.

Next, they will be at the mtvU Woodie awards this week. Ben will be performing and Zooey will be presenting. The awards will be Wednesday, but won't be aired until December 4. I would expect red carpet pictures online Wednesday, though.

And finally, this is just speculation on my part, but Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be hosting Saturday Night Live this week, so maybe Zooey will pop in for something?
