so, did Mr. Waits tell you folks 'bout the pond water he swallowed six months ago? Well, he started feelin' somethin' kicking around in there and thought he was pregnant, so he had an ultrasound done... turns out he swallowed three tadpoles and they grew into toads. The doctor wanted to remove them, but he said it's really only a problem when he watches t.v., 'cause they start gettin' all loud. Har.
Oh, or that it's illegal for a woman to parachute on Sundays in Oklahoma?
Or that his sperm's gotten real expensive?
The moon smells like fireworks? So Neil Armstrong told him ('cause apparently he can smell through his suit).
Ok...so I went to the Knoxville show. And I loved it. Mostly.
Here's my question though. Has anyone else noticed the strange cartoony high pitched voice he's been doing? I'm not sure if it was just Knoxville sound or if he's been doing it this entire tour, but it really threw me off. Also, how does everyone feel about the band he's touring with? Don't get me wrong. I love Tom and my infatuation with him and his music is huge, however the first part of the Knoxville show really dissapointed me. I'm not sure if it was the band or the rearrangements of the songs, but it seemed almost, dare I say, a little bit slow jazzy? It felt like he wasn't into it for the first part of the show and was just going through the movements.
Ok, that said, as soon as he sat down at the piano and busted out Christmas Card, everything was right with the world. The rest of the performance I enjoyed immensely and couldn't wipe the smile off my face. It was just the first half that had me thrown off. I don't know if it's just me and my love of his older stuff, or if anyone else caught this too?
So honestly, what did you guys think of ScarJo's cover CD? Did anyone like it? Thoughts?
I picked it up today, and to be honest, I wasn't expecting much... I'm on the last track right now and it's pained me several times not to turn it off. I think she pretty much butchered whatever Tom did with each song. She sang in the same breathless monotone for every song, no matter if the song was upbeat or not--- how can you sing "I Don't Wanna Grow Up" and "Fannin Street" in EXACTLY the same inflection?!?
Damn you, ScarJo. This Waits-lite piece of crap is going to get sold back to the used CD store first thing tomorrow.
I'm going to be going to the last six shows of the tour (Columbus through Atlanta). I'll be traveling by myself, and given the cost of gas I think it's in my best interest to try and carpool! Anyone interested?
Furthermore, I may have an extra ticket to one or more of the following shows:
Jacksonville Mobile Knoxville
Excellent seats to each, all in the front of the orchestra. I have a couple friends who I'm trying to convince to come, but let me know if you're looking for a ticket.
