Felton: 'Potter' cast feel pressure

By Alex Fletcher, Entertainment Reporter

Felton: 'Potter' cast feel pressure

Rex Features

Tom Felton has admitted that the cast of Harry Potter feel under pressure to be good role models.

Felton, who plays Draco Malfoy, claimed that the stars are often required to "keep things under their hats" because of their young fanbase.

He told DS: "I feel slightly under pressure. When we're in the studios there's kids coming around all day.

"It's not so bad for me as Draco because he's a bad character, but there are these kids that look up to the cast.

"There's definitely a feeling that you need to keep things under your hat."

The 20-year-old added: "There's also the pride of working for Warner Bros. We don't want to make an a**e of ourselves and demoralise the producers."

Speaking about his career plans beyond Potter, Felton said: "Mark my words, if you see me in two years stacking shelves in Tesco, I wouldn't be surprised.

"There's a mixture of relief and disappointment. It's a relief because the end is in sight, but equally terrifying is that I don't know what I'm going to do afterwards. I've no idea."

Felton will play as part of the England team in Sunday's UNICEF Soccer Aid event, which airs on ITV at 6pm.

Its rather expensive, but.......  I dunno - its a 5 day conference so maybe its worth it.  I wish it was in Vegas, I think that would be more fun.

J.K. Rowling Outs Hogwarts Character

NEW YORK (AP) - Harry Potter fans, the rumors are true: Albus Dumbledore, master wizard and Headmaster of Hogwarts, is gay. J.K. Rowling, author of the mega-selling fantasy series that ended last summer, outed the beloved character Friday night while appearing before a full house at Carnegie Hall.

After reading briefly from the final book, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," she took questions from audience members.

She was asked by one young fan whether Dumbledore finds "true love."

"Dumbledore is gay," the author responded to gasps and applause.

She then explained that Dumbledore was smitten with rival Gellert Grindelwald, whom he defeated long ago in a battle between good and bad wizards. "Falling in love can blind us to an extent," Rowling said of Dumbledore's feelings, adding that Dumbledore was "horribly, terribly let down."

Dumbledore's love, she observed, was his "great tragedy."

"Oh, my god," Rowling concluded with a laugh, "the fan fiction."

Potter readers on fan sites and elsewhere on the Internet have speculated on the sexuality of Dumbledore, noting that he has no close relationship with women and a mysterious, troubled past. And explicit scenes with Dumbledore already have appeared in fan fiction.

Rowling told the audience that while working on the planned sixth Potter film, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," she spotted a reference in the script to a girl who once was of interest to Dumbledore. A note was duly passed to director David Yates, revealing the truth about her character.

Rowling, finishing a brief "Open Book Tour" of the United States, her first tour here since 2000, also said that she regarded her Potter books as a "prolonged argument for tolerance" and urged her fans to "question authority."

Not everyone likes her work, Rowling said, likely referring to Christian groups that have alleged the books promote witchcraft. Her news about Dumbledore, she said, will give them one more reason.

10:49 am - so is everyone excited!!!???

pink_grrl

I'm positively embarassed that I'm not going to be able to pick up my book MYSELF on Saturday at the Borders by my house.  I'm going to be out of town and have checked to see if I could reserve a book where I'm going.....  (I can't - they stopped taking pre-orders last week) but no dice.  So - I'm having to give *security information* to Borders so that my friend can go pick up this book for me...... information on me and information on her.  O.o  Apparently they aren't getting a large enough shipment in to cover all of the books they need so they've started upping the security.

HP Artricle in today's news:  Weird when you consider that there is an article running in today's Wall Street Journal about all of the Deathly Hallows leaks going about.  Apparently there was a review of the book posted by the Maryland Sun online  (please don't post that here).  They somehow obtained an advanced copy.  And randomly it seems that some folks have received theirs at their HOME(!!!) due to some freak accident from a shipping warehouse.

Going to any parties this weekend?  Please share!

ALSO - did anyone check out the A&E Harry Potter special (they're running it again so set your Tivos!) hosted by Jason Isaacs?

On Saturday July 29th at 12AM EST they're running Harry Potter:  The Hidden Secrets

Just for fun:  There is a brief blurb about Mugglenet.com in this week's Entertainment Weekly Magazine.  (the one with Daniel Radcliffe on the front.

So, I was lurking the IMDb message boards, and they were talking about Tom being featured in Surrey Life, which is apparently one of their local magazines.

Anyway, after a little digging, I managed to find the .pdf files, but I've uploaded the article in .png format just to make life a little easier.

I don't think these have been posted before, but if they have, I guess it won't hurt to see them again. :]

Isaacs Gives Harry Potter 5 Update
Source: TV Guide
July 21, 2006

TV Guide talked to Jason Isaacs, who gave an update about shooting Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, in which he reprises his role of Lucius Malfoy.

TVGuide.com: Where do you stand with the next Potter film, Order of the Phoenix? [Isaacs plays Lucius Malfoy, the father of Harry's archrival, Draco.]
Isaacs: I'm shooting [State Within in Canada] all of next month, and then I go home, unpack, get the mothballs off the wig, stick it on and start waving my wand about.

TVGuide.com: A Potterphile pal of mine says fans are anxious to see how Order of the Phoenix handles the Battle of the Ministry, a "beyond huge" moment, I am told, in Potter lore.
Isaacs: I am, too. This is all as entertaining for me as it is for many of the fans. I turn up and they go, "OK, you materialize from here and you fly in over here, and then you point at this and it's going to explode...." I stand there with my jaw dropped. When I did [Chamber of Secrets], they said, "OK, there's going to be a little blue guy [Dobby the House Elf] walking next to you and then he's going to jump up to here...." [Laughs] On the first day of the first one I did, the first shot I had to do was storming out of a room, leaving the lovely Richard Harris (the original Dumbledore) and Daniel [Radcliffe, Harry]. [Director] Chris Columbus shouted, "OK, and then shut the door on your way out." I said, "Do I have to shut the door? I don't know what the rules are, but can I just wave my hand and the door shuts by magic?" Chris paused for a second and said, "Sure. If you like." That's when I knew I was going to have a great ride.
