Sharing some joy ...

I don't know how many of you are familiar with Angela Shelton... She is amazing and if you haven't seen her documentary, you must ! It impacted my healing in a hugely positive way !
Her book is coming out in April and there is a huge grassroots movement to show up at Barnes and Nobles on April 1st and buy the book. You can also preorder it on her site.
I am one of the team leaders on the joy campaign in Washington and I wanted to encourage these of you in Washington to join the team.
Please note, I am not getting paid to do this and this isn't about slaving away or activism that isn't rewarding! It's about breaking the silence individually, creating and finding our own healing and supporting the movement that Angela Shelton starting in doing all of the above !
She is truly an incredible woman and her videos are helpful and hilarious all at once.
It is so important to remember that healing doesn't have to be all pain all the time and that while it is extremely painful and hard, humor can sometimes help hugely.
And so does community !
Love and healing to all.

about Birdsong's December Meetings - News & Topics

[Hello I am Celeste, new to this community. When I was looking for a group to help with my own recovery and couldn't find anything I helped start one with the help of a doctor I met at one of the progams I attended, which has now become BirdSong. We are a not-for-profit, non-sectarian, free-thinking organization created by and for Women with a history of incest &/or related childhood trauma that holds weekly, facilitated, peer-empowerment groups in NYC's upper East Side in an atmosphere cushioned by trust and safety.]

Hello, Birdsong Ladies!

We here at Birdsong want to take a brief moment to wish you and your loved ones a happy holiday season!

As many of you know this is a very exciting time for our organization as we are finishing our certifications in Albany and are readying ourselves to begin fundraising!! In addition, we are taking this as an opportunity to announce some very exciting changes in the format of our weekly meetings.

news articles

I don't get a paper newspaper, but I read the newspapers on line quite often. I read several news reporting sites and one of them posted these two articles. I thought some of you might find them informative, so thought I would pass along the link.

These articles are about violence directed against women. One of them is a report from the United Nations, the other is a report from the New York City Health Department. Both of them are loaded with statistics (good for if you are doing a report on this topic), both of them contain triggers.

Blogathon 2007 this Sat July 28 -- 24 hours of fun!

I just thought I'd plug the Blogathon in here, because many people are blogging for RAINN and different trauma centers. I thought some of you may want to sponsor them. Even a $5 pledge can add up!!

What is a Blogathon? Bloggers from all over the world stay up for 24 hours, posting on their journals every 1/2 hour. They are blogging for their charity of choice. People are asked to sponsor them in their journey with a lump sum donation to the charity.

Here is where you can search through the list of blogs and charities.

For the 2nd year in a row, I'll be blogging for the Children's Neuroblastoma Cancer Foundation which raises money for Pediatric Cancer Research. If you'd like to follow along on my journey, here's the link to my site. If you'd like to SPONSOR ME, I'd be forever in your debt! All of my sponsors get a thank you card mailed to them from me and a chance to win a $40 Amazon Gift Card. I will also be auctioning off Progressive Photos of my journey over 24 hours for $5 donations!

Love to all my survivor brothers and sisters! Have a great weekend!

I looked over and signed this petition, it's to inform rape victims of contraception pills that are available in hospitals. They deserve the right to have it as they shouldnt have to create a life that was forecefully put inside of them. They should have that choice. It was apart of the Planned Parenthood site called "Care2 Action Alerts"

Here are the details, please read:

Every woman deserves to be healthy and safe.

One state has already dropped a bill that would simply allow rape survivors information about EC.

A few days ago, South Dakota lawmakers dropped a bill that would have allowed Emergency Contraception information to rape survivors. Their reason? They didn't want it to be seen as an abortion ban. [1]

This is a frustrating development, because every state should allow rape survivors access to emergency contraception, regardless of its policy on abortion. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/757422046?z00m=9416831&z00m=9416831<l=1172950671

Emergency contraception (EC), or Plan B, is simply a concentrated dose of ordinary birth-control pills. Because EC is effective only within the first 72 hours of sexual contact, making it available at hospitals is the best opportunity for us to protect these women at a time when they need us the most.

Legislation called the Compassionate Assistance for Rape Emergencies Act ("CARE": H.R.464) would ensure that access to EC is included as standard emergency care treatment.

Emergency contraception bill killed in South Dakota

- 2 days ago - capjournal.com

A proposal to require South Dakota hospitals and other health care facilities to inform rape victims about emergency contraception was killed Friday in the House Health Committee, but a revival attempt was later started on the House floor.
