[ mood | groggy ]

I just joined the community but I am definitely no stranger to the creations of Will Wright. I do need some help though.

The other day the game wouldn't play for some reason, and I tried everything and finally had to uninstall it. When I went to reinstall it, I realized I had lost the paper in the box with the reg code. Is there any way I can get this back? Is it saved somewhere on my computer or anything?

Thanks in advance :)

Incoming Galactic Adventures? [23 Jan 2009|08:15pm]

[ mood | contemplative ]

Anyone else paid attention to that new "galatic adventures" expansion pack that's coming out?

I'll admit, I haven't played Spore in a month... but that's only because I want to reboot my galaxy so I don't constantly run into 5 star empires all over the place when I'm a lowly one-star (but I'm out of installs, so I can't). That and I want to colonize Earth this time.

i just installed the most recent patch, and it took 3 and a half hours to download and install. assuming this isn't normal (which i highly doubt), wtf do i do?! why did it take so long to install? it took maybe 10 minutes to download, and the whole rest of the time was spent installing.

if you can't help, do you have the new parts pack? what do you think?

My game is progressing nicely, but I have a question. Which terraforming tools are the reusable ones? The description doesn't really say and I need to do so much terraforming on some of my planets that I can't afford to buy one use tools.

Also, I've come across a planet with no spice. I know this can be used as an ecological reserve (as I've seen it called) .. is there anything special you have to do to get one? Or does 'ecological reserve' just mean a terraformed planet with no spice? (In otherwords, it's not really anything special.)

Does the game tell you when you eliminate an Empire in Space stage? I had these really annoying Octopus-like things that kept declaring war on me, so (as best I can tell) I took over every planet they had. One of them had Pink spice, which made me especially happy. Anyway, I just took out what appears to be their home world (6 or 7 cities) and can't find any other planets of theirs, but the game didn't mention that I eradicated (genocided?) this particular race. Did I miss a planet somewhere or are they probably gone?

Now I just need to figure how to deal with two races (I'm allies of both) who are constantly attacking each other. I don't want to defend one race and get the other one mad at me, so I guess I'll just let them fight it out.

Killing vs. Making Friends [20 Dec 2008|05:57pm]

One of the criticisms I read about Spore was that it was harder to make friends than it was to kill everyone off, so most players opt to just kill everyone. I find this to be totally wrong. I find the opposite to be true, actually. Well, in every stage except for Creature I do. It can be annoying to be friendly in Creature.

I find by making friends in Tribal I can complete it in half the time it normally takes me. (As I normally need to launch multiple assaults to take out the other tribe. Whereas I can just march in there with a few of each instrument and spend 30 seconds playing the music game. The problem I used to have is I would give everyone the same instrument and that'd cause problems, which is why I made a comment a few days ago that I couldn't make friends in Tribal.)

Civilization is easier that way too, I think. Give gifts to get up to neutral (if you even need to, I normally don't) then start running a trade route. Buy the cities out when the time comes. I destroy a few just for variety, but it's easier to just run the trades.

Space, though, is sort of a toss up. I find it easy to get to the point where another species wants you to buy their planet, but I never have enough to actually buy it.

So, what do you all think?

For the record, I'm just going into Space now (working on my ship at the moment) as a Knight. I'm not sure of all the choices (I think they're all in my manual, though) but I was happy to be something other than Warrior. Creating a mini version of my ship sounds like an interesting ability. May help keep ships off me as I fight pirates/destroy cities/etc.

*Edit: Rather than making this a separate post, I thought I'd mention two things here. First, I found this weird bug that wouldn't let me complete the training missions (going to the planet and scanning the wreck) and it also made me unable to leave the solar system. Reloading from the last save point fixed it. Also, the moon next to my home planet has Pink spice. Score!*

I fail at creature making... [19 Dec 2008|08:31am]

So, I was working on my creature for my new game last night. I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted, but I knew I wanted to be pretty big as most my prior creatures have been small-ish. (As a side note, with my save game gone, I don't have the option of starting at anything but the cell stage. So I have to play through all the stages regardless.) I was going to take pictures of my creature, but I decided to just make a YouTube video of it instead. The link is:

Yeah, that thing is total fail. Ugh. Some people make real nice creatures, I make rejects. One thing I noticed upon watching it back is that it needs to have those arms moved up a bit. I'm not done with it yet (this is more a preliminary thing in the creature stage. I still need to do some more work and only have about a quarter of the parts unlocked.)

Anyway, on another note, I'd forgotten how much fun the Creature stage is. I'm trying to be exceptionally friendly to everyone I come across because I want to be something other than a Warrior when I get to space stage. I've only extincted one species so far. (and that's because they attacked me first, which is unusual. Last time I played, you were never ever attacked first. Maybe that giant patch I downloaded changed something.) Tribal may pose a problem for the friendly idea because I've never quite been able to make friends in that stage. I end up having to slaughter everyone. (Though I'm quite good at taking over cities without violence in Civilization stage.)

Anyway, overall, I'm quite enjoying my replay of Spore. We're supposed to get a fairly big amount of snow later today, so I'm kind of looking forward to staying home all weekend and playing Spore.

Finally, I know this is getting long, but if anyone wants to add me, my Spore name is astrosteve. (If you do add me, read the descriptions of my creations. My one friend said they're the funniest descriptions he's seen on Spore. It bugs me how a lot of people dont' seem to use descriptions.)

[18 Dec 2008|01:41pm]

Hi everyone. I haven't posted here in months because I've been divorced (so to speak) from Spore. My computer unexpectedly died, robbing me of my save game and also taking away one of my installs. In my absence, I see EA has released a utility to de-authorize instances of Spore, so I shouldn't need to worry about losing any more installs, at least.

So, getting back into this Spore thing, I've decided just to restart. If I really wanted, I could probably recover my old save game, but I don't think it's worth it. My space stage was weird and I didn't really like it anyway, because I totally messed everything up when I was new and didn't know what I was doing.

Anyway, I should be able to get back to space stage tonight after work (I can get through all the other stages fairly quickly. I might skip it if I didn't find Tribal to be so much fun), and that leaves me with a few questions. My one friend is hideously good at Space and, last time he updated me, he was up to something like $80 million. Eighty Million! I feel rich as anything if I have 2 million. He says he just does nothing but run Spice trade routes for hours. Seriously, he'll play for 4 or 5 hours and do absolutely nothing but run spices between planets for profit. He doesn't have any colonized planets except his homeworld so attacks are minimal. (and he ignores them.) Is this the only way to get large amounts of money? I'd sure love to have just half of what he does, but this seems excessively... umm... boring. He has said outright to me that I have to play that way if I ever want a lot of money. Any other suggestions on what to do to earn money, aside from finding rare spice planets?

Also, I have problems Terraforming. I can get a planet from t0 to t1 no problem. However, no matter what I do or how hard I try, I cannot get it any higher. I'll get it into T2 range and it'll slowly revert back to T1. Does anyone know what causes this? It's annoying that my spice harvesting capabilities are extremely limited thanks to this. The best (unverified) rumor I heard back when I was playing was it depends on the orbit color of the planet. Certain colors can't be higher than a T1 no matter what you do. Any ideas on if that's correct or not? If it is, I guess I'm gonna have a ton of searching to do to find a T3 capable rare spice planet.

I get the feeling I've asked that question about terraforming before, but I looked through old entries quickly and didn't see it. Sorry if it's a reapeat question, though.

And that's it for now. I'll try to post pictures of whatever creature i end up creating later tonight.

Interesting. [30 Nov 2008|01:05am]

I had the something amazing happen while I was playing Spore last night.

I heard the cries of an epic, whom I thought was ready to devour my companions and I, but when I turned around I noticed it had a green smiley face - it was allied and friendly with me.

This only happened since I allied with a rogue of the same species (it's an rogue and epic 'helenkeller.')

I just thought this was kind of awesome, though it couldn't become a member of my team - at least I felt confident that it wouldn't kill me. XD

Also, I noticed if you devour eggs they give you 25 extra DNA points.

Couple of quickies... [22 Nov 2008|01:14pm]

Does anyone have MP3s and stuff of the game music and character sound effects (the talking in the space stage, and the like), and if you blow up the Earth, does it stay blown up until you delete the game it was blown up in?
