From Second City:
Since 1959, The Second City has established itself as a Chicago landmark and a national treasure. The theatre that launched the careers of such comic greats as John Belushi, Mike Myers, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, and more offers nightly comedy shows, as well as a variety of other programs and services.

The theatre has two resident stages: The Second City Mainstage, which seats 340 and The Second City e.t.c., which seats 180. Each theatre has a resident troupe that writes and performs an original comedy revue. The shows are smart, funny, and highly original. The Second City Training Center operates a third theatre in the Piper's Alley complex on Wells Street called Donny's Skybox Studio Theatre. Donny's Skybox features an eclectic mix of student productions as well as other alternative shows.

The Second City also has touring troupes that take our shows on the road, a Training Center that teaches improvisation, acting, writing, and other skills, and a corporate communications division that services the business world.

The Training Center:
The Second City Training Center is a leading school for people from all walks of life to study improvisation, acting and writing. The classes, taught by professionals working in their fields, are dedicated to helping students develop their artistic voice, both individually and within an ensemble, and to provide the tools and techniques needed to express that voice. We draw on Second City's history of ensemble improvisation, satire, and revue comedy and serve as a laboratory for the exploration of the future of the art form.

Training Center alumni include Tina Fey, Mike Myers, Chris Farley, Bonnie Hunt, Stephen Colbert, Halle Berry, Sean Hayes, Hinton Battle, and countless other producers, directors, writers and actors.

Many of our students pursue professional entertainment careers, yet a large number come from other fields and use the training to improve presentation, creative and team-building skills in a fun and safe environment. Each Training Center maintains what is unique to Second City, yet also seeks to serve the needs of its specific community.

In addition to our regular programs, our faculty is also available to teach one day workshops and short term residencies almost anywhere in the world.
