Subject:Offer Me Constructive Suggestions on My Letter to The DNC.
Posted by:juliesmagicmoon.
Time:2:37 pm.
I'm thinking of submitting letters to the editor for The Seattle Times, Seattle PI, The New York Times, The LA Times, The Washington Post, Mother Jones, Ms., Utne and maybe six or seven other nationally syndicated papers. Essentially, I'll be picking apart the hypocrisy of the Republican's posturing on life and morality issues, while at the same time addressing the Democrats for being spineless on the same by allowing Republicans and conservative owned press to define the nature of political discourse for the last 3 decades. It will need some work because I want to be clear and articulate, but short enough that it won't be cut and potentially lose meaning.

While talking with a friend about the idea, he offered some helpful suggestions, and even recommended that I send a longer letter to Howard Dean, which I will post here later. That one won't be quite as critical, but will have some genuine critiques and offer what I hope will be some constructive suggestions. I still resent Terry McAuliffe being the DNC chair; his vision of the Party was that agenda an platform would be developed in DC by the DNC and followed and implemented by the rest of the country's Party committees and members. It should always be the other way around, in my opinion. The best thing for the party was having McAuliffe resign, but it will take a long time to recover. We still aren't likely at this point to pick up any major gains in 2006, and by no means does it look positive for an Executive change in 2008, but Dean has his work cut-out for himself. I think he may do some interesting things, so I'm looking forward to working on this letter for the next couple of weeks. Does anyone have suggestions?

I may post both since I'm not sure either would ever reach the light of day once they leave my hand.

Ah, Lou Reed's Last Great American Whale just started playing. Is that rather apropos or what?

And I quoteCollapse )

Pictures of this past weekends events..Collapse )

I'm pleased to announce that this weekend we registered 29 VOTERS! That is a fantastic start!

Right now I am working on getting together future registration events. I already contacted someone from G-MOCA [Gay Men of Color Alliance] and we are set to host a voter registration table at their next HIV testing event for National HIV testing week. That will be next Wednesday the 23rd. Please contact me if you can attend this event!

I am also looking into hosting tables at Alive at Five [every Thursday], Albany Riverfest, and many other Albany Special Events. I will let everyone know more details about these events when I receive them.

This brings me to your part in all this!

I ask that everyone comes up with as many Guerrilla Marketing Campaign ideas having to do with Safe Sex/Safe Sex Education as possible. Please e-mail them to me or comment on this site with any ideas! We really need to get that portion of our work underway!

Thank you all for making this such a productive weekend. A special thanks goes out to our super-star registers Laura Rabinow, Laura Drislane, Petra Marar and Mel King. Thank you so much!

Alright.

Plans for this week have been very disjointed. I apologize.

It looks like our fundraising plans for Thursday have been thwarted.

This means that I have to ask you to dip into your pockets. Please bring 3$ each to the next meeting: Friday at 2.15 in Mrs. Krishna's room. I'm really sorry about this, but I can't pay for everything myself!

This weekend's registration plans are as follows:

The Annual Alternative Youth Dance
Friday, June 11th
SUNY Albany
Grand Ballroom
Albany, New York
8pm-12am
Tickets $10 each person at door
Ages 15-21 Welcome!
Snacks and Beverages will be served
Professional Photographer on site!</b>

Pride Parade and Festival
Sunday, June 13th
11am-4pm
Washington Park

Please encourage everyone you've ever met to come to these events! I hope to see you all there and at the upcoming meeting!

Hello lady fans!

This is the first entry in the new Capital Region Youth Rock the Vote LJ!

I figure I will just re-post what I put in the e-mail on the listserv today:

The most important two things are these:
- The absentee ballot table is NOT HAPPENING! I don't think it would
have been prepared in time, at all. Sorry about that..
- This weeks meeting will be on Thursday AT SCHOOL after our
bakesale! I don't have this confirmed yet, but I think it will be in
Mrs. Krishna's room. I still have to talk to her but I believe this
will work. I will send out another e-mail if this changes. The
problem was that too many people would have been gone for the S&G or
Live at Five concerts, and I wanted to hold one more meeting before
this weekend's registration BONANZA!

As for this weekend:
- My plans for Saturday suddenly got canceled, so I can go to the
Festival after all. This means that Laura Drislane will not have to
be responsible FOR ANYTHING! [Except perhaps ride-giving! We'll talk
about car-pools at the meeting..]
- I got a definite okay for the Alternative Prom table Friday night.
I REALLY need a lot of people to work there so we can take turns and
all still have fun! I'm hoping that we will still have a
bakesale/Pizza sale on Thursday, Annie and I have to go talk to Dr.
T tomorrow. Plan on bringing lots of baked goods so you all don't
have to pay the full 10$ it will cost to attend alternative prom,
and that I don't have to pay the 25$ registration fee for the
festival by myself!

I'm pretty sure that is it. I need someone who is willing to leave
school a little early on Thursday to pick up pizzas, anybody
volunteer?

To reiterate:
- Thursday: PIZZA SALE! Will anybody's parents spring for the initial payment for pizza and will anyone drive to pick it up?
- Friday: ALTERNATIVE PROM! I need mo' people to back me up here. I know Mel would be VERY unhappy if I was the only one pimping the table at Prom!
- Saturday: PRIDE FESTIVAL/PARADE + BLUE SKY ON MARS! Again, mo' people needed!

That's THREE Voter registration drives in one weekend, FOUR events in all!

Get ready!
