oh em gee, I'm so busy right now but I just had to stop by and post this: Radio Free Atlantis has reached 200 watchers! ::throws confetti:: Who would have thought? Not me, that's for sure. When the community opened, I had hopes that it would go over well but I never
dreamed it would go over quite so well
. I'm so happy to see that so many people have been interested enough to friend the community and I am just thrilled
that so many have actually joined (all 126 of you! woo!) and started posted such lovely mixes. Thank you to all just-watchers -- you are the lifeblood. And thank you to all of the mixers -- keep up the awesomeness. :)
And, well, since I'm here, a few modish type things:
1. I'd like to remind everyone -- because it can never be said enough -- commenting when you download is a good thing
. A very good thing. Unless you've made a fanmix you probably don't realize the time that goes into it -- it's not just a slapdash project. (At least it shouldn't be, in my personal opinion.) There's time and effort put into these mixes beyond just uploading a couple files: song choice, song placement, (sometimes) cover art, all
the uploading and post formatting. It's mainly just for fun but there is
work put in and... well, if you've ever put work into something and had it ignored, you know how it feels. Now, I'm not asking everyone to download everything -- that would be ridiculous and I'm not going to do it either. But if you do download? Drop a comment, okay? It's only fair. Give and take, peeps.
2. I've seen some people say things like "I was so going to use that song in my mix" and whatnot -- there is no rule against using a song more than one time. Obviously if the majority of your songs have already been on mixes it would be a little weird, but if you just share one or two songs with someone else? That's perfectly all right. It's not about being first or being the only -- it's about sharing your, you know, personal musical vision
with others and sometimes... well, great minds think alike. So, really, no need for those worries.
3. I've also seen some comments along the lines of "I don't like your song choices" and that? That would be not
cool. At all. Yes, you are entirely free to have your opinion. No, don't get your knickers in a twist, I'm not trying to zomgoppress you. I just don't see the point in comments like that -- if you don't like something why are you wasting your time downloading and commenting on it? Go wash your dog or bake a cake or something. I can't stop you from making comments like that and hurting people's feelings -- I can't be everywhere at once -- but I can tell you that it only makes you look like a wanker. In the immortal words of Frankie Goes to Hollywood: relax, don't do it.
4. On the subject of friends-locking posts: it is not forbidden, it is not discouraged, it is entirely your own choice. If every poster chose to lock all of their posts it would be entirely fine by me. Obviously the only people that will be able to see those posts/leave you feedback are other members
of the community but, yes, I leave the choice up to you. I'm not going to lock my posts but I don't frown on those who choose to do so -- to each their own. However, linking to a friends-locked entry you have in your own journal is a negative. Don't do that, that's just plain annoying, I hate that.
And that's it for now. Thank you again to all the fabulous watchers and wonderful mixers! I'm so happy to have you here at _rfa
, I hope that it continues to be a community you enjoy seeing on your friends page. ;) As always, feel free to get in touch with me via e-mail or by commenting here if you have any questions or concerns.
