Welcome to the _quotes_ community on LiveJournal! This is a free and open community to all members of LiveJournal. If you have a LiveJournal account, you can click here to join the community and become a member, you can click here to add it to your friends list.
You must be a member to post to the community, but can still access all community posts and memories without being logged into LiveJournal. This also works if you don't have a LiveJournal account, but would still like to use our archives to find good quotes. =)
As a member, you can post to the community at any time while logged into LiveJournal. On your update page, select _quotes_ from the dropdown menu on the bottom of the screen where it says "post to". (This will only work after you join the community.)
There are a few community rules, none of which are particularly harsh and all of which are necessary to keep this community running smoothly.
1. All quotations must be properly credited. This means including title and/or (preferably both) author of the book, actor and/or title of a movie, or the artist and/or title of a song. The more information you give, the better. If you really don't know where a particular quote came from but would like to share it anyway, please credit it to unknown or anonymous.
2. Subject and tag your posts. The maintainers will soon be adding a memories feature to the community to make our entries easier for others to find. In order to do this in the most effective manner, posters need to give the post a subject line identifying something about the quote or quotes in the entry, and posters should tag their entries with relevant descriptors such as "love" or "success" or "funny".
3. Use lj-cuts for long entries. Many members view this community on their friends page, and it's just easier for everyone to read if longer posts are kept under a cut. If you aren't sure if your post is going to be too long, err on the side of caution and just take the extra few seconds to place it under a cut. If you don't know how, go here.
4. RESPECT each other. This should really go without saying, but just to be on the safe side, it's included. No flaming will be tolerated in this community, and any racial or ethnic slurs or negative comments about people with disabilities or alternative lifestyles will result in being banned from the community and reported to the LJ Abuse Team. There is no reason in the world why everyone shouldn't get along here. Civil disagreements are fine, but bashing and name-calling is not. There has never been a problem with this to my (xnikki118x) knowledge, but again, to be on the safe side, this is included.
The community maintainers are hailerro, moneycar, penguinstar, sunlike, and (xnikki118x). We will be making sure that community posts and comment threads adhere to these few and easy-to-follow guidelines. We can also ban you from the community and/or report you to the LJ Abuse Team if it becomes necessary, but we hopefully won't run into that kind of trouble here. =)
