TimeGate 2014, the DW (and more) convention, Atlanta, GA, USA, May 23rd-25th [28 Apr 2014|02:25pm]

acciochocolate
TimeGate 2014, the Doctor Who (& more) annual convention, is taking place in Atlanta, GA, USA, over the Memorial Day weekend, May 23rd-25th. Please check out the site for a list of guests, events, hotel and travel info, memberships, and more, here: http://timegatecon.org/

If you find yourself feeling a little overwhelmed by the throngs of people at the big cons like SDCC and Dragoncon, please consider attending TimeGate. :) However, just because the con is smallish, doesn't mean that there isn't plenty to do! We have seven tracks of programming! Also: major events, with the con's guests, in the Main Ballroom, several rooms for gaming, a wonderful consuite, photo opps and autographs with the guests, an even larger dealers' room this year, fan tables, performances (musical and theatrical), a charity cabaret, a masquerade, and more.

One of the tracks, or portals as we call them at TimeGate, is the Wardrobe Portal, which is mostly about costuming/cosplaying in the Who'verse. The DW track is the Gallifrey Portal, which has the major guest events in the Main Ballroom, in addition to the fan panels in the track room.

Memberships are only $45 through May 1st; afterwards, they are $60 at the door. Check the website for member registration:

See everyone at TimeGate 2014!

today's lead Wiki article: Sydney Newman [14 Jun 2010|10:30pm]

acciochocolate
Sydney Newman was a Canadian film and television producer, who played a pioneering role in British television drama from the late 1950s to the late 1960s. After his return to Canada in 1970, Newman was appointed Acting Director of the Broadcast Programs Branch for the Canadian Radio and Television Commission and then head of the National Film Board of Canada. He also occupied senior positions at the Canadian Film Development Corporation, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and acted as an advisor to the Secretary of State for Canada. During his time in Britain in the 1950s and 60s, he worked first with the Associated British Corporation (ABC) before moving across to the BBC in 1962, holding the role of Head of Drama with both organisations. During this phase of his career he was responsible for initiating two hugely popular fantasy series, The Avengers and Doctor Who, as well as overseeing the production of groundbreaking social realist drama series such as Armchair Theatre and The Wednesday Play. The website of the Museum of Broadcast Communications describes Newman as "the most significant agent in the development of British television drama". Shortly after his death, his obituary in The Guardian newspaper declared that "For ten brief but glorious years, Sydney Newman ... was the most important impresario in Britain ... His death marks not just the end of an era but the laying to rest of a whole philosophy of popular art." In Quebec, as commissioner of the NFB, he attracted controversy for his decision to suppress distribution of several politically sensitive films by French Canadian directors. Ten times it didn't need saying (Doc/Rose oneshot) [11 Apr 2010|06:19am]

darkbunnyrabbit
[ mood | artistic ]

Title: Ten times it didn't need saying
Rating: PG?
Spoilers: From Unquiet Dead to Stolen Earth
Pairings: Rose/Nine, Rose/Ten
Genre: Heavily episodic, but with a distinctly romantic slant. Fluff-ish?
Summary: It was never what he said that mattered. And a good thing, too.
Prompt: Ten Ways To Say I Love You Without Using The Words

Note: This is taken from a slightly AU 'verse in which it's the Doctor's lever that fails in Doomsday, and Rose is left alone in her original universe. It doesn't play a huge part in this fic, but it is important to know.

Cross posted lots. A lot.

The stare and the silence seemed to stretch on forever, and she couldn't say why. Like a message she should understand but couldn't.

Dragoncon's Brittrack costuming panel thanks you! :) [10 Sep 2009|11:47am]

acciochocolate
We would like to thank everyone who attended the Brittrack costume panel at Dragoncon this year. :) The Valdosta room was full, even though Terry Gilliam was scheduled opposite us. And thanks to everyone who came in costume, although we couldn't get to everyone for Show'n'Tell. Myself, the panel moderator, and Andy, head of the Prydon Academy (the DW costume parade group) are talking about a double panel, where we will spend half the time on info and Q&A, and the other half on a Fashion Show (not a Costume Contest). You can write to the Brittrack staff supporting the idea at the site: http://www.brittrack.org .

Don't forget that you can join the Prydon Academy ( we're more than just a Dragoncon parade group, but also a growing costume resource that will soon be working hand-in-hand with
dw_cosplay ) at http://www.prydonacademy.com/forum/index.php .

For those of you who want to comment in a general fashion about Dragoncon, there is this post on dragoncon for reviews and complaints.

Brittrack costume panel at Dragoncon 09 [24 Aug 2009|11:45am]

acciochocolate
[ mood | excited ]

The British SF Media track at Dragoncon (or Brittrack, as it's nicknamed) will be hosting a panel for any and all costumers of British SF & fantasy media, whether it's Doctor Who, UFO, Blake's Seven, Robin Hood, Torchwood, The Tomorrow People, The Sarah Jane Adventures, or what have you. :)

Please attend in costume or bring a costume for presentation or just attend to pick up tips and tricks. We'll be mostly discussing costuming, but we also have an expert on the panel who has knitted many Fourth Doctor scarves. If you have knitted and/or are knitting a Fourth Doctor scarf or a Boomtown!Rose scarf, bring it along. :)

If you can attend the panel, just let us know by replying here, esp. if you are wearing or presenting a costume, let us know about the costume as well. :)

At the moment, and hopefully this will not change, the costume panel will be at 4 PM, Saturday, Sept. 5th, 2009, in the usual Brittrack place, the Valdosta Room, at the Sheraton Hotel.

Dragoncon takes place Sept. 4th - 7th, 2009, in Atlanta, GA, USA.

http://www.dragoncon.org

The Brittrack has Eric Roberts (the Master in the Doctor Who TV-movie) and Gareth David-Lloyd (Ianto Jones in Torchwood) as guests, as well as Terry Gilliam and many other wonderful guests.

See you at Dragoncon!

Dragoncon's Brittrack has new guests & schedule changes [24 Jul 2009|05:41pm]

acciochocolate
[ mood | pleased ]

There have been many changes made to the Brittrack schedule at Dragoncon in the past few days. :)

Just yesterday, Gareth David Lloyd confirmed that he is returning to Dragoncon! We have a few Torchwood panels already, and the track will be working with GDL on how best to schedule him.

Eric Roberts and his wife Eliza Roberts will be hosting a panel on Friday on how the 8th Doctor TV-movie influenced New!Who.

Terry Gilliam, the director and Monty Python animator will be at the con on Friday and Saturday only. (Yes, he has nothing to do with DW, but imagine if he directed a Doctor Who film?!)

And there may be more guest announcements to go with the great slate of guests already. Stay tuned by checking the Brittrack site for the schedule:

http://www.brittrack.org

The Dragoncon main site can be found here:

Dragoncon is one of the world's largest SF and pop culture conventions. It takes place in Atlanta, GA, USA, from Sept. 4 to Sept. 7, 2009 aka the Labor day weekend.
