Moving To New Jersey / Cell Phone Services [03 May 2008|08:28pm]

leopardwolf
[ mood | hopeful ]

Hello!

I’m new to the community. Sometime within the next few months my fiancé and I plan to move from New York to New Jersey. We currently live in Long Island. I’m originally from just outside New Orleans, Louisiana. I relocated to New York after losing my home and everything in it to Hurricane Katrina.

We’re trying to get as close to the Vernon / Sussex area as we can, but we also need to be as close to transit into Manhattan as we can manage, as my fiancé commutes into the city for work. We’ve considered areas within an hour or so of Vernon / Sussex as potential places to live.

We’re hoping to eventually buy a house, but for the time being we’ll probably be stuck renting. We’ve had our share of sour experiences with apartment complexes. We’d rather rent a house if possible. We have four cats, and the largest problem we have had is finding a place that would let us have them all. They are members of our family, our children. All of them are rescues from Louisiana and Mississippi, and have been with me since they were practically kittens.

We decided to do a little research and ask around to get an idea of where we might have the best luck with living arrangements and affordability. The following are areas we have considered:

Butler
Riverdale
Verona
Morristown
Bloomingdale
Mahwah
Wayne
Clifton
Budd Lake
Totowa / Little Falls
Paterson
Hawthorne
Garfield
Saddle Brook
Fairlawn
Lodi
Paramus
Hackensack

We are not as familiar with these areas, and we are hoping people actually living in New Jersey can give us some feedback and advice. Can anyone recommend any reasonable apartment complexes in any of these areas, or perhaps is anyone familiar with rental properties that would work for us? We’re paying $1215 right now, which is along the top of what we can afford for monthly payments. Our current complex is a garden style community. Our apartment is around 700sq feet. We need a bedroom close to 10x16 for our king size bed and bedroom set. We’d rather stick to single family homes, as we have had some bad experiences with mother/daughter style setups, and people took advantage of us even when we were in such a dire situation recovering from the hurricane.

---

Another thing we were wondering about was cell phone services in these areas, and which providers have the best coverage. We have AT&T ( formerly Cingular ) right now, and we find we have very poor reception when we go into Vernon / Sussex up in the mountains. My fiancé’s parents have Verizon Wireless, and they seem to still get coverage at their home, where we normally have no service. Could anyone offer their personal experiences with which services seem to work best?

Any other information or sources to help us would be greatly appreciated. I’ve cross-posted this to a few New Jersey communities in hopes of getting as much feedback as possible, so my apologies if you see this more than once.

Table for sale! [09 Sep 2006|11:45pm]

michaelsjournal
I am selling my kitchen table, which I’ve had since I moved into off-campus housing. The table is unvarnished solid pine, and is in excellent condition apart from a few tabletop stains. It measures 30”W x 48”L x 29”H. I suspect it would be quite pretty if you were to varnish or stain it properly. I’m asking $50 o.b.o. for it, and if you’d like it, you’ll need to arrange to pick it up. Please comment if interested.

New Brunswick question again [19 Jan 2006|07:39pm]

First of all I want to say that you people are great with the information. I really appreciate all the insight you've offered. Thanks to you I've determined that the area on Joyce Kilmer is out. I need information on another area now. :)

How is the neighborhood around Somerset Street and Ball Street in NB? Would you consider that a safe area to live?

Thanks, again, for any information. :)

New Brunswick/Edison/Metuchen/Woodbridge/et al [30 Dec 2005|08:37pm]

crossposted to central_jersey

My bf and I have narrowed this area down as where we'd like to live when we move in a 2-3 months. I've looked on craigslist.org, rent.com, apartments.com, and apartmentguide.com, but I'd like to get some personal testimonials for decent apartment complexes in the area. We have few requisites.. must be close to NYC-bound trains, 2 bedroom, and cat-friendly.

Anybody have any experiences with the following apt. communities:

~New Brunswick Arms
~Raritan Crossing
~Garfield Condominiums
~Woodbridge Apartments (Edison)
~Valley Manor Apartments

Thanks in advance!
