Luckily, Severus had been in the vicinity of the lake when the Mark on his forearm began to burn. He clutched at the throbbing pain and hurried for the forest. Pulling out his wand, he whispered "Lumos!" and followed a narrow path into a clearing that reached past the limits of the castle grounds. He pulled the hood of his black cloak over his face and Apparated to where the Dark Lord had summoned his followers. As always, he wondered whether the others were close behind.
Bellatrix waited impatiently for Evan to make an appearance in a forest clearing off school grounds. Many of the student Death Eaters had already Disapparated to meet their Lord, and Bella did not like to keep her savior waiting.
The Dark Mark on Severus' arm never failed to surprise him. The intense pain shot through his body and he jumped up from his comfortable spot in the Common Room and hurried frantically up the dorm. On a piece of spare parchment, he wrote a quick note to Hara:
Meet me in the courtyard now. Bring a black cloak.
He did not sign the note, but shoved it at Lucius' owl and practically threw the creature from the dormitory. He then grabbed his own cloak and headed for the courtyard, bypassing other nervous Death Eater students.
It would not be wise to keep the Dark Lord waiting.
The Mark began to burn when Bella was drifting off to sleep, tangled in Rodolphus' arms (as they'd recently made up). She sat up with a gasp. "He's calling us..."
As Hogwarts slept, a handful of Slytherin students were summoned to a gathering in an eerie graveyard. It seemed there was something more than just the wintery wind that blew dead leaves and powdery snow around the circle of hooded figures. Bella wore her usual sinister smile under the hood of her heavy black cloak. Her wand hand tingled in anticipation of the night's dark deeds.
