Support Lauren Lee Smith and Jennifer Beals!

So here's the big news: Lauren's finally making her own movie, and Jennifer Beals will be in it.

After coming together during the production of A Night for Dying Tigers, Lauren and director Terry Miles have decided to co-finance their own indie film, CinemaNovel, reuniting Lauren with her L Word/Night for Dying Tigers companion Jennifer Beals.

Smith stars as Grace, a young woman whose estranged father is a famous filmmaker. When he dies, she organizes a retrospective of his films, uncovering destructive patterns in his life that mirror her own. Beals will play Grace's best friend and confidant.

And as promised (many thanks to i_heart_garbage!), here are many more uplifting updates about our favorite actress:

First, CTV has just announced that the company is renewing The Listener for a fourth season! It looks like we'll be seeing much more of Sgt. Michelle McCluskey after all.

Here is a video of Lauren and her co-star Rainbow Sun Francks talking about the show's third season on Urban Rush.

Second, Lauren was recently featured in a smoking hot Toro Magazine photoshoot in Toronto's La Société Bistro.

Third, Lauren was spotlighted as Inside Vancouver's Featured Vancouverite in June.

She mentions shooting a film for Keith Samples, Hunting Season, in which she plays a woman named Samantha Davis who unexpectedly inherits a house in the country.

Fourth, Lauren has begun filming on Ring of Fire, one of five four-hour television miniseries for Sonar Entertainment's "Disaster Pack."

The earth rocks in Ring of Fire, a terrifying and all too plausible end-of-the-world warning, starring Michael Vartan (Alias), Lauren Lee Smith (CSI), Terry O’Quinn (Lost) and Agam Darshi (Dead Zone). When an oil rig causes a volcanic eruption in a small town, it’s just the first in a trigger effect called the Ring of Fire that stretches across the globe. If these cataclysmic series of eruptions cannot be stopped, the earth will be swallowed whole, leading to an extinction level event. Ring of Fire is directed by Paul Shapiro (Smallville) and written by Michael Vickerman (Impact).

Oddly enough, since being named one of the Top 10 Canadian actresses to watch, Lauren herself isn't the only focus of media attention. Various random Lauren-objects have also made the news.

Good luck Lauren! :)

...and back to England

Lauren Lee Smith and Craig Olejnik, her co-star on The Listener, will be attending the London's Comic Con MCM Expo at Excel, Royal Victoria Dock, May 27th-29th.

Sounds like fun!

Let’s Hear It For The Listener – Psychic Detectives Speak Out At London Comic Con. Listen up, sci-fi fans! CRAIG OLEJNIK and LAUREN LEE SMITH (THE L WORD, MUTANT X), the stars of supernatural crime show THE LISTENER, are coming to the MCM Expo London Comic Con to clue UK viewers into the hit Canadian series – hosting a panel, meeting fans and signing autographs.

CRAIG OLEJNIK stars as telepathic paramedic Toby Logan, who uses his amazing ability to hear the thoughts of others to save lives and fight crime. When Logan reveals his powers to police sergeant Michelle McCluskey (LAUREN LEE SMITH), she brings him on board her Integrated Investigative Bureau task force to help crack the toughest murder cases… but there’s a high price to pay for having such a gift.

You don’t have to be a mind reader to know that this MCM Expo panel will be a must-see. To catch OLEJNIK and SMITH in action before the show, check out the second season of THE LISTENER currently airing on Fox’s FX channel, home of top programmes such as TRUE BLOOD, DEXTER and FAMILY GUY.

L8 and The Listener Interviews

To her L Word fans, we may have missed her last year, but Lauren Lee Smith is once again slated to attend the annual Starfury L Word Convention next weekend!

L8 will be held March 11-13th at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Brighton, England. The other guests include Lauren Holloman (Tina), Erin Daniels (Dana), Janina Gavankar (Papi), Kate French (Niki Stevens), and Clementine Ford (Molly).

I can't make it this year (boo!) but congratulations to all who are planning to attend; have a wonderful time!

I have some more goodies as well. Lauren has recently given two short interviews about her role in the second season of The Listener. Here they are, enjoy!

Hindenburg premiere

Pic from Zimbio

The made-for-TV movie Hindenburg premiered in Berlin on Tuesday night! Lauren Lee Smith strapped on her silver shoes to celebrate with her co-star Maximilian Simonischek. See more pictures on WireImage here. According to IMDB, the film will be released February 6th.

Click here for the Hindenberg trailer and here for a German interview with Lauren about the film.

In other news, be sure not to miss Lauren's first episode in CTV's second season of The Listener, which will air on January 28th. She will be playing Sergeant Michelle McCluskey, a character whose description somehow reminds me of her former role Riley Adams on CSI...

Sergeant Michelle McCluskey is the perfect candidate for the Integrated Investigative Bureau (IIB). Thorough and conscientious, she may only be in her early thirties, but she earned her promotion to sergeant through her hard work solving complicated cases. After graduating at the top of her class she was recruited into the IIB’s intelligence unit. Now working with Corporal Dev Clark, McCluskey’s suspicions about Toby lead to grudging skepticism about his telepathic abilities and eventual trust as she makes him a confidential informant. She might be able to read situations extremely well, but it never hurts to have an ally who can read minds.
