This is dollspit. I was _girlparts_ and still am, but that journal is used for advertising purposes only. I still maintain this community as _girlparts_ anyway.

I thought I'd join with my personal journal as well.

3:36 am - Wow, an active community...

New here, Love Strapping... Saw SYL last April, Alien is by far their best work yet.

Devin Townsend is some kind of god. Kinda partial to dTb as well.

Hope to see 'em at Sounds of the Underground this year, had to work last year. >.

3:39 pm - All Hail... SYL

Saw SYL for the 3rd time last tuesday. They played along with Darkane, Soilwork and Fear Factory. Had an awesome time was a little disappointed they didn't play Shitstorm but still had an awesome time, and left with one hell of a souvenire. Their set list, which I later had signed by the entire band.

While Devin was signing my setlist my boyfriend happened to tell him a theory I have... That if I lick Devin's bald head I will absorb some of his genius. Then my boyfriend asked him If I could lick his head. Devin's response "I wouldn't suggest licking it since it's pretty dirty but you can touch it." So I got to touch Devin townsends Beautiful bald head... I love that man.

I forgot to ask devin if the All Hail lyric in love? is in fact a reference to the song all hail (I had been wondering about it for awhile, especially after someone in this community had actually mentioned in a post the same thought) so I asked Mr. Byron Stroud after I shook his hand for playing 2 amazing sets in one night and he told me that it is in fact a reference to All Hail and that Devin likes to keep everything familiar and uses references from other songs alot in his song writing. Didn't know if anyone here knew that so I figured I'd share since it was new found Devin "trivia" for me.

current mood: chipper

10:28 pm - live shows in 2005

Hey guys! im mad i never noticed this community earlier. my names eric im 17 in a few days, and im completely obsessed with devin's works. other bands i enjoy are alice in chains, sigur ros, opeth, system of a down, and so on....

I've seen SYL twice this years already (back in april for the alien tour and then at SOTU in july) and im going for a third time when they come around with FF... The two shows i saw already were fucking AMAZING. i have the entire syl discography (and most of devin's) but ntohing can compare to actually seeing these guys live. so much energy and so much metal, it rocks! just thought i'd throw in my two cents ^.^

anywho, anyone else catch those two tours? what were your thoughts? anyone else interested in the FF tour?

current mood: crazy

Just a heads up. I am going live for Gridstream Productions at 9pm EST tonight. I would love if people tuned in. I will be logged in as strapping dev on AIM as I can't be dual logged when live, but I can take requests from there when they are open. I am covering for two fellow DJ's who are at the Dragoncon event all weekend in Atlanta, so this one is important for me.
Tune is a www.gridstream.org please folks... show your support.

10:32 pm - Post City fans...

I'm interested to know how many people on this list became fans of SYL from albums other than City. To me I became a dev fan in general through this record after Detox was put on a Triple J compilation, one of my friends had City which I borrowed and was immediately obsessed by the time Velvet Kevorkian kicked in. I still think that, even though the other albums are quite immense, City is still head and shoulders above them all. How many other people feel this way? And do you think that you feel this way because City was the first one you heard?

I'd like to hear from people who first heard SYl, Alien or even HAARHT and believe one of those is their favourite, rather than city...

Just joined. I'm Tony. I'm 21 years old. I just recently started getting into death metal. I'd known about it and had heard some before now, but I JUST bought Alien by SYL about a week ago. It gets more play time in a week than some of my CD's get in a year. I'm a fan of "Love?" and "Possession". "Shitstorm" is quite amusing as well. I've only heard one other song NOT on Alien. "Relentless" is by far my favorite song. Gene Hoglan is also my new hero. It's amazing how fast that man is on the double bass. I think their videos are good too. What are good albums to buy? The nearest Coop Records has a bunch, so I'm thinking about buying those. Which should I buy if I wanted to get "the essential SYL" so to speak?
Thank ya. I really like this band, hope to be able to make more contributions later.

What are everyone's favorite songs?

munkeybiz Ha-lo! Just strapped myself to this community(that doesn't sound right). I been a SYL fan for three years now, starting with their self-titled cd, SYL. What further my interest in Devy's maniacal metal universe was "Detox." One of the best excuses to get whiplashes! I own all the official SYL releases and most of Devy's solo efforts. I always wondered why some weren't in favor of Devy solo work. A clerk at a music store told me about it and I went to the HevyDevy website to listen the tracks that were available. Which were only one each from every individual cd he has put out. And you know what, I dug them! He showcased more of his singing capabilities on those cds and he's one of those very few singers who has such a distinction in sound. The screams he does astounds me. How could that dude have a voice to speak with after ripping up his vocal cords the way he does?!? He can't be angry with those screeches he makes...he truly sounds like a madman doing what he does! I live in South Carolina. Does anybody know SYL might be making a stop that's even close to that state? If so, I gotta make that show! I heard one member mentioned Opeth. SYL and Opeth! OMFG! Two memorizing bands for the price of one! I'm sure there other good performers I haven't heard of. Somebody please tell me that they have a show or two booked near or in SC. I gots to know(excuse the suburban language, I'm funny with words sometimes)!
