-:Answer these questions:-
Where do you plan on doing with your dance?: I do it for fun now.  Being a career dancer wasn't my goal
In your opinion, is dance a sport?: More of an art, if you ask me
What is your opinion about cheerleaders in regards to dance?: I'm a cheerleader too so I really don't have any negative opinions.  The thing that takes some getting used to is how cheer dance routines are sharp and not fluid like I'm used to doing when I do hip-hop
Do you ever find yourself walking around any place and not notice yourself dancing?: Ha, ha, yes :)

Question...RAD & Vaganova [03 Feb 2007|10:50am]

dancingmerel
Hey There!

I had a few questions and I hope you can help me out!
I'm working on an essay about the RAD method (Royal Academy of Dance). I'm writing about the differences between RAD and Vaganova. I've already found a few differences, but if you can tell me more about the differences between those two methods, I'd be very pleased!
Next to that I'd like to include pictures of the armpositions (5) of RAD and of the 3 basic arabesques of RAD. I can't find those pictures like they're drawn in the books of RAD, I hope someone can help me out... Thanx!!

Alright, I have a question for you all from a friend of mine, and any answers and/or advice would be very much appreciated:

If you are considering a career path in ballet, how old is 'too old'? How long should you have been dancing for? And we both assume that just lessons at a local dance studio wouldn't be enough, and would a national ballet school be the only option? If you are 15-almost-sixteen, is it too late to be accepted, and are you too far behind? She has had a bit of training as a young child, but hasn't danced in years, although she is in very excellent physical shape. Remember, this is for National Ballet Company style of thing.

Thanks a lot, and I (and she) wish you all tons of luck and rhythm.

Hello there dancers. I'm going to be trying out for my highschool dance team this week. It'll be for my junior year. I'd really love to make it, but it's also no big loss if i dont. Whoever reads this, I'd just like your support. Wish me luck i suppose. Becuase ballet is more my thing, and dance team is jazz, but im going to try really hard.

Thanks for the support!

I am in desperate need of some help.

I really need to impress my dance teacher at the upcoming auditions for our competetive team, and i would really like to get my switch split. Is there anything that you can suggest that can help me with that. Right now I am nowhere close to split, and i am not happy about it.

thanks in advanced

Easter and ballet and their sweet coexistence! [21 Apr 2006|12:24am]

For easter i got the movies The Nutcracker. It was so beautiful. I loved it and loved the way Balanchine choreographed it. I also got An American In Paris and Daddy Long Legs. Both of those have Leslie Caron. She's a french ballerina from the 50s and 60s. She amazing.

This year's recital will be the best!!! Im en pointe for it!!!! Our costumes are beautiful. We're dancing to Simon and Garfunkel's Scarborough Fair. It's beautiful.

Then for our ballet/lyrical. we're dancing to I can Only Imagine. Also very expressive. very moving. i think we'll make people cry.

Ok, so. Hi everyone! I'm here cause..well. I love dance. I miss it so much, so I've started dancing again, not in a class or anything but more of just perfecting what I know trying to get back in shape and everything. But anyway, I was wondering if anyone had any diet or stretching tips. I don't remember a lot of the stretches that we did, so any help would be great. I guess that's it! Thanks to anyone that can give me any help! =)

Hi everyone!
-:Basics:-
Name: Charlene
Years Dancing: 4
Studio: Class Act Dance
Types of dance you take: ballet at the studio, jazz, lyrical, and a bit of modern at the highschool.
Favorite type of dance to dance: ballet
Favorite type of dance to watch: everything! I'm not really into tap, though.
Favorite song to dance to: Anything with a beat. I'll dance to whatever.
Favorite move: Right now I really like tour jetes and saut-de-basque

-:Answer these questions:-
Where do you plan on doing with your dance?: Right now I'm trying to get into a summer intensive and get on pointe. (I quit for three years and now I'm really stuggling to catch up)
In your opinion, is dance a sport?: Yes, but it's more of an art, I think. It's so hrd to draw the boundaries between sport and art, anyway. So it's both.
What is your opinion about cheerleaders in regards to dance?: Cheer is an intersting sport, but they aren't really dancers. They use dance moves and technique, but it isn't their main focus.
Do you ever find yourself walking around any place and not notice yourself dancing?: When do I NOT? It drives people crazy when I start dancing while talking to them or in a store.

In your opinion, is dance a sport?: It is, as well as an art. It takes dedication and practice to dance well.
What is your opinion about cheerleaders in regards to dance?: Cheerleading is very different from dance, as I am a dancer who is part of the cheerleading squad. Cheerleaders can at times dance, but they have a very hip-hop style of dance. Cheering is just a lot of simple steps, yelling, stunting, jumps and kicks.
Do you ever find yourself walking around any place and not notice yourself dancing?: All the time, I constantly am dancing.

lizzie71986

so awhile (alright, about 2 months) ago i posted the following.......

ok here is a question for ya'll.....

what do you consider dancing professionally?

after i get some answers i'll let ya'll know why i asked.....

and due to some unfortunate circumstances i was never able to get back to this and let ya'll know why i asked, but know that life has finished kiciking me in the rear i am able to get caught up with everything again.

anyhoo, the reason i asked is that i am always hearing things such as "well my teacher is a proffesional because she is getting paid to teach us"  or my favorite (note the sarcasm) "oh well i am a professional dancer" (this out of the mouth of a 13 year old dance student).  and don't get me wrong yes some teachers are professional dancers as well, but to me (and most of the professional dance world)  you ARE NOT a professional if you are just a teacher or a teachers aid.  to be a professional you have to actually be in a company or on broadway or in the rockettes, etc.  and i am sorry if this was not the most tactful way of putting things however i really just wanted to get other peoples take on this subject as well.

so THANKS!!!
