Calling all bat girls, naughty nuns, kittens, and creatures of all kinds…
The best holiday around (according to Karen G. and Adriana C.) is right around the corner from the next clit show. Show your hallows eve spirit by showing up in something that will make us smile. You are NOT TOO COOL for costumes!
Plus…you don’t want to miss our fabulous feature all the way from Asheville, NC…JOHNNY ROCKET!!! He’s a trannyboi spitting, swearing, blaspheming heathen ready to tickle your ears with sumptuous imagery for your ears and eyes (yum)

4:51PM - Next CLITERATI Oct 28
Dear JOHNNY ROCKET,
This is not your regular "dear john" letter, or even the one by that dread headed folksinger--no--this is to let you know how much we're looking forward to hearing you feature & seeing you in the flesh, at CLITERATI next Thursday,10/28/04. We'll be there at 8. We're really looking forward to hearing those stories again~about volunteering at camp trans, being a hall monitor/security guard at ww festivals, and maybe a few secrets about how you keep up your devilishly boi-ish appearance despite your ripening age of, what was it? Perhaps, at Cliterati, we can keep you at THE TOWER II until you turn twenty-four? Oh, we do have a request--please read Spank Me Jesus, would you? At least once? Then maybe we can commence with birthday---well, we'll see.
We love how your style is part slam stage, part country singer songbook and how you carry around all that vivid, metaphorical imagery under your buttery brown cowboy hat.You look so good in suede, worn leather & that guitar slung on your back.
We've heard about all those gals up in Asheville swoonin' and croonin' after your last purrformances & we also know it's a long way from Gainesville Fla to get here. Please know that we'll do the same, we promise! We hope you enjoy all the readers on the open mic, too.
Adriana Chickness, Karen G., & the Cliterati crew!!!

11:42AM - This Thursday!
is this Thursday
Bring out the bells and the **birthday cake**
celebrate 4 years of Cliterati
and our fabulous feature
Theresa's been known to do more than one mic in a night, sometimes three, that's how dedicated she is to words around town. Really working it and getting herself out there, she's featuring on mics all over, and just when you think her performances couldn't get any sharper, there she goes again! Why, just last night, she came within a hair of solidifying her place in the semi-finals for the Atl slam team (and the competition was ridiculously good-- Adriana also kicked ass and came super close to the top two spots).
It's in her gene pool~ her mom is the amazing Alice Lovelace and her brother also performs, but her work is her very own, sharp and vivid, funny and politically biting, not to mention personal. She's a teacher and a livewire. As usual, you don't want to miss her in the event!
*unbelievable. lotsa magic, laughter, lust, and tears and simply amazing stories happen in that room & on that stage.stars and regulars made equal.what an education.suggestions on kinds of cake strongly advised.or it might be chocolate....if there is chocolate, it must all be eaten.
**yes, it's true, miss g.'s been in the same room at the same time, twice most months, for the best attendance record she has on anything.can she have a hall pass?
it's a humble honor to just be there in such good company.

11:11AM - CLITERATI TOMORROW, 9/9
Cliterati: Tomorrow, September 9!
At Long Last, we'll be featuring Beki Buchanan!
She's a redheaded, positive force of nature with a bluesy voice. Oh sure, she sells books, edits, and writes poetry, and generally doesn't make the big bucks, but she sure does deliver the goods! She's from the Appalachian mountains of western North Carolina, and you can hear her pretty regularly at Womanwrites, Malaprop's Cafe Of One's Own, Down-n-Dirty, and the Lake Eden Arts Festival poetry slam. She's also performed with SlamAsheville (r.i.p), in Ladyfest South and Ladyfest Philly. Oh, yeah, and she's on CDs--"Voice Like A Hammer", a collection of WNC women poets responding to 9/11, and the new "Peacework" by Mendy Knott. Beki co-hosts Eve's Night Out at Blue Moon Bookstore in Spruce Pine, NC and has just finished her first chapbook "Looking Inside." She is currently working on a documentary film about southern womens' peace and protest poetry.
She's also hysterically funny, satirical, and political in her character sketch-- "The Higher The Hair, the Closer to God." (think of someone like Molly Ivans, with a beehive, riding in a mobile home from Appalachia, here to tell you like it is, no bones about it!)
You don't want to miss this filling night of homestyle politics and (a)rousing performance poetry!! We can't think of a better way to gear up for this weekend.
$5, more if you can, less if you can't 'cause Beki works hard for the money!
8ish, The Tower II, 735 Ralph McGill Blvd.
Also... Be on the look-out for Sept.23rd as we usher in fabulous features to help kick of Southern Comfort!

9:51AM - CLITERATI TONIGHT!
Next Cliterati: TONIGHT August 26th!
8pm Tower II
An Evening of the Absinthe Minded
We've been meaning to party down with and celebrate our beloved bartender Marvin for quite a long time now. This is the night. Bring us your stories of the bartenders who've served your body and your soul; the courageous late-night folk who've cut you off and called you a cab; the denizens of dark places who've greased the wheels of an evening out until it was morning already. Let's hear it for the Bartenders!

11:32AM - This THURSDAY!
Next Cliterati: August 12th!
8pm Tower II
Knoxville Slam Queen Julia Nance
She's been all over the place featuring her work in Montevallo, Birmingham, Asheville, Knoxville. She's won Slams in DC and at Chicago's much-storied Green Mill, the birthplace of the form... We're not sure how she's managed to miss us, but we're correcting that little oversight right now. We'll bring a little Knoxville Poetry Slam energy in and, as always, blow the roof off of the Tower II!
Look at the picture. I think we can all agree: She's one of us.
Check out CliteratiOnline for more info!

We'll have some local (Atlanta) drag queens opening up the night, then the Athens Boys Choir, and then some local (Athens) drag kings to close out the night. All of the fun gets started around 9:30... So you should all come.
We're REALLY excited. Thanks for all of your support.

Cliterati: July 22nd!
8pm Tower II 735 Ralph McGill Blved. ATL
Strip Tease Spoken Word
Imagine yourself before your dream dragking/stripper/dragqueen, sopping up images of fantasy flesh made real before your eyes. Now, replace the fantasy flesh with corporeal words coming alive and penetrating the delicate swirl of your ear- and watch as that dollar slips from your wallet and compliments the stage before you even think to deny it. With an extra wad to follow for a poet's good gesture, lip synch, performance, and presentation, this is the happiest your cash has ever been, and you are proud to send it to such a worthy destiny, are you not? Appreciate, contribute, be both exhibitionist and voyeur. Erotica and stripping optional~variety IS the spice of life, after all. Featuring ITLA's spoken word host, Lovely Brown.
A fundraiser for In The Life Atlanta's production of pride (Sept.3-6th, events posted, check their website for details!), and Cliterati's booking of more kick ass features!
Be sure to bring your one$ to tip the toasty hot performers, and feel blessed-

11:01AM - In our time of need.
So, here's an interesting dilemma...
On Saturday, June 12 Cliterati, MotherTongue, and Junkyard Books were planning to put on a slammin' show at the cybercafe E2.
So we still have all these great performers coming in to town, and we still want to put on a show for ya'll... we just need a venue!
If you have any ideas or suggestions for venues that might be available for a queer performance art show this coming saturday, please leave a note in the comments or email me at lesreves01 @ yahoo . com
BUT- Since the universe still loves us, the Cliterati show on Thursday, June 10th is on as planned. For more info on the wonderness that will be that show, check out the Cliterati Website.

The Next House Party!
Featuring Cheryl B., Sonia Tetlow, & Cliterati!
TONIGHT! 5/28, 8pm at The Old Poet's House 730 E. Lake Drive, three doors down from the Universal Joint in Oakhurst, Decatur.
Join the fray, dance your ass off, get up and speak, wish happy birthdays to Stacie and Shannon, and maybe we'll even be eating fire with that cake & ice cream!
If you were one of the many who missed out on the rockin' good time that was had by all at the Sini/Robo Fest of April then you already know not to make the same mistake twice. You're smart people, you've learned your lesson.
And those of you who were wise enough to attend the last shindig already know to bring your asbestos tongue, your razor wit, a few bucks for the performers, and your own booze.
See you there!

10:11AM - Call for Features
So as we at The Megacorporation Behind Cliterati (ha!) hash out the summer schedule, I was wondering if ya'll had any input...
Are there any spoken word poets, performance artists, slam masters, etc. that you'd like to see featured at Cliterati? Do you have their contact info? Can you tell me why you love them or when they'll be in town next? Do they have a website? Or do you want to feature at Cliterati? We love stage virgins, published authors and everything in between.
Also... um... on the off chance that there happens to be a Cliterati Costume Ball fundraiser- what sort of entertainment (besides fire-eaters and spoken word, as that's a given) would you like to see? ;)
