A Bobby Picture Post [05 Jun 2008|09:40pm]

[ mood | thoughtful ]

I only just remembered that tomorrow it will have been 40 years since Bobby passed away. I thought that I would share a picture post with you guys. :) A few of them I scanned from the recent Vanity Fair.

[27 May 2008|12:05am]

fellow kennedy fans, i have a request!

have you ever been put in a position to defend your passion for the kennedy family?

i ask because my government teacher chose a day when i was gone from class to talk about the JFK assasination. he gave some very biased background information on the family, knowing very well that had i been in class i would have disagreed with a lot of it. he questioned his character, and kept the discussion completely one-sided against JFK. when informed of this the next day i was very upset and went to talk to my teacher. he rolled his eyes a bit but told me that he would let me make my case to his classes sometime this week.

i'm wondering what you would say if you were in my position, being as honest and sincere as possible, (keeping the obvious flaws in mind) to encourage high-school students to respect the kennedy family despite a biased influence.

thanks :]

Introduction and Icons [23 May 2008|04:24pm]

[ mood | thirsty ]

I come bearing gifts of icons - five, to be precise. I've been following the Kennedy family saga for a long time now, and my Kennedy family claim-to-fame is that my mother once met Jackie in New York.

Enjoy the icons!

Ted Kennedy hospitalized [17 May 2008|11:55am]

[ mood | worried ]

Ted was admitted to the Cape Cod emergency room about 9 A.M. eastern. He supposedly had symptoms of a stroke. It's on all the major news channels if you want to follow the story. We're still waiting for a statement from the hospital.

[12 Apr 2008|10:21pm]

Hello! I am so happy to have found this community. To make a long story short, I got engaged nearly 2 months ago, and started listening to an old favorite song of mine, Tori Amos's "Jackie's Strength," again, and as a result started getting pretty interested in JFK and Jackie. I just finished Sarah Bradford's wonderful biography of Jackie called "America's Queen" which I really recommend! Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone can link me to a youtube video or a sound clip of Jackie talking, because I keep reading about how breathy and "different" her voice was, but the only one I can find is her speaking in Spanish, and she doesn't sound girlish or breathy at all and it would be nice to be able to actually understand what she's saying! (I took French. Bah.)

I'm also coincidentally getting married on September 12 of next year, which was JFK and Jackie's wedding day, although we didn't know it when we chose the date! It made me grin. :)

Anyhow, anybody have any clips of Jackie speaking in English?

[23 Mar 2008|03:46pm]

Hi everybody,

I've been fan of the Kennedy's (though I gravitate more towards JFK) for nearly a year now. I feel sort of out of place here. I don't know how many Canadians hang around Kennedy fan communities. Either way, I thought I'd stop by, introduce myself, and share some icons that I've made. :)

[03 Feb 2008|12:08pm]

Following the previous discussions about Ted and Caroline ... how about Kathleen, Bobby Jr., and Kerry Kennedy's support of Senator Clinton? It appears they've been supporting Clinton for a while, according to this article (though the article itself is more opinion than news). Also, Rory Kennedy supports Senator Obama.

Wonder what's going on if the family meets each other these days... ^_^ I would think either serious debates or ribbing, or both.

And, like last time, I bring a story. =D

Anyway! Thoughts, anyone?
(to people with alerts, sorry for the repost! "bleeped" a word, just in case...)

Another Video [10 Jan 2008|04:31pm]

[ mood | peaceful ]

Hi again.

I made a Kennedy video awhile back to the song better days. I've posted it here already and was really happy you enjoyed it. I got inspired a few days ago and made another Kennedy video, although this one is about Bobby.

I thought I'd post it here.

Again I took some photos so if anyone wants credit just tell me and I'll make sure to credit you.

current Newsweek articles - RFK [19 Nov 2007|05:51pm]

Hi everyone ~

It just so happens that: (1) tomorrow is Robert F. Kennedy's birthday, and (2) I was delighted to stumble across 2 articles in this week's Newsweek: "1968" and "The Worst Week," both with quite a bit about RFK. The latter is even written by Evan Thomas! (author of the recent RFK biography!) One of my favorite passages from the articles:
That night, as the news of King's death spread through the blighted parts of the land, there were riots in 110 cities causing 39 deaths and injuring 2,500. But in the city of Indianapolis, where [Robert] Kennedy had spoken, it was quiet.

Kennedy had trouble sleeping that night. He wandered around the Marriott hotel, stopping in to talk to some young staffers, tucking in a young speechwriter named Jeff Greenfield at about 3 a.m.
"You're not so ruthless," said Greenfield. "Don't tell anyone," said Kennedy.

I'm (obviously) a newbie; just got interested in Kennedy history this year when I visited the JFK library on a trip to Boston ~ and was bowled over both by the ideals and standards he presented for the US and the world - I mean, what kind of politician does that? :)  - and by the idea that he had the audacity to appoint his own brother attorney general, and his brother actually turned out to be arguably the best AG ever. :D

I haven't had much time to devote to this new interest, but I've read Robert Dallek's JFK bio and several other shorter books. On this site I've seen the Evan Thomas bio highly recommended (thanks to those who mentioned it!) Anyone have any other special recommendations?

And finally, 2 days after RFK's birthday is a sad anniversary - but I love the fun moments of "Camelot" too - for example, I'd love to know what President Kennedy was thinking at this moment: (captions, anyone?)

(Hope I got all the posting rules etc. ok...)

best kennedy books/icons [22 Aug 2007|09:02pm]

Don't know if anyone still reads this, but I thought I would try!

1. What are your favorite Kennedy books? Either about the entire family, JFK, RFK or John John separately. Any and all suggestions welcome!

2. Anyone have any good Kennedy icons, particularly of John Jr? I've looked pretty far back in this community and found a few. There are so many great Kennedy pictures begging to be iconed, but sadly I don't know how :(

Thanks in advance!
