True Compass [03 Apr 2010|12:35pm]

[ mood | relaxed ]

Has any other community members read True Compass Teddy's Memoir?

While I may be a little biased, I do have to say it was one of the most eloquent memoirs I have read. It was full of sentiment but it wasn't sentimental. There were moments were tears swelled.

I has borrowed it from the library but I think I might save up to buy it.

My brothers were my dearest friends. They were just human beings — and wanted to be considered that way — but they were extraordinary. I cared very deeply about them, loved them. I miss them. No day goes by when I don't. That gap will be with me for the rest of my life. No way to bridge that.

Ted "glasses" photo? [13 Nov 2009|04:08pm]

[ mood | busy ]

Hey, everyone! Nice to see this community. Was getting soooo sick of seeing anti-Kennedy comments all over the web when I went to other sites. If people don't like them, I don't see the point in posting negative remarks, but anyhoo....

On the day (or shortly after) TV was airing all the tributes and specials about Ted the other month, I caught a glimpse of a photo of him with his glasses on and thought it was such a great photo, but silly me didn't look to see what the show was and it was one of the only ones I DIDN'T tape at the time (figures).

I can't even remember it much now so I don't know if the photo was in black & white (I THINK it was) or what year (60s? 70s? 80s?). I think he was facing to the left (ours).

Thought maybe someone here would happen to have it (though based on my description, it might be a needle in a haystack, eh?).

Either way, hi and stuff. :-)

EDIT: Since I only found two Kennedy-related communities, I'm gonna post this same post in both cos I'm not sure if each group visits the other. I'd like to ask if either owner would like to be affiliates with the newly created (cos I'm a sucker for communities) Ted community. If not, it's cool. I didn't wanna make another all-Kennedy one since there already is two of those and Ted's my fave, so....yep. (Edited this to remove the link since the rules say not to promote other communities. Sorry about that.)

Hiii! I've never posted here before, but uh... I worship the ground JFK metaphorically walked on, and therefore that led to this...
I drew a portrait of John on the anniversary of his assassination, a few days ago, and I figured I'd post it here... Because, well, I don't know any other people obsessed with the Kennedys :)

Frankly there's a few things I wish I could change, but I really do like how it turned out. :D

Query [12 Nov 2008|07:21pm]

[ mood | happy ]

Hello all,

Forgive me in advance if this is not allowed.

In my history class we are discussing JFK and his presidency. My teacher favors discussion centered classes and would like us to defend reasons why JFK was a good president while he takes the negative. He feels this gives us a good perspective on both sides and actual knowledge on our own parts. So, I figured who better to ask for help than members of a community dedicated to the Kennedy's?  :)

Why do you think JFK was a good president? What did he do that makes him so?

So, once more, if this is an unwelcome post, I'm really sorry.

This month's "Vanity Fair" [26 Oct 2008|04:44pm]

[ mood | happy ]

Hi everyone,
There's an article in this month's Vanity Fair about Jackie Kennedy.  It's called "The Two First Ladies", and it's written by Margaret Leslie Davis.

The synopsis:
It began on May 11, 1962, as a spur-of-the-moment promise by France’s minister of culture, André Malraux, dazzled by Jacqueline Kennedy: he would send the Mona Lisa to America. Then, as Presidents John F. Kennedy and Charles de Gaulle tussled over nuclear policy, the Cuban missile crisis erupted. In an excerpt from her new book, the author tells how Mrs. Kennedy turned the unprecedented, perilous loan of da Vinci’s masterpiece into a powerful Cold War symbol of Western ideals.

It's on page 222 of the magazine, and it can also be found here: http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/features/2008/11/monalisa_excerpt200811

[13 Aug 2008|05:22pm]

Heya! How are you all? :)

I'm looking for screencaps of Bobby Kennedy's speech before the showing of the film about his brother at the 1964 Democratic Party convention, and I was wondering if anyone here would be able to help me out? Though the whole speech would be nice, I'd really like some of Bobby smiling during the 22 minute ovation. :)

You know. That smile! The one that makes your heart feel like it's about to explode into a million little pieces? :P

RFK Jr. [03 Jul 2008|07:39pm]

I meant to post the other night to give a heads up that Bobby Jr. was gonna be on Larry King and I totally forgot. BUT, I just read they are gonna re-air it Sunday night if anyone missed it and wants to catch it. He's on talking about gas prices and alternative energy sources... =)

Edit: BTW, has anyone read the new book by Thurston Clarke The Last Campaign about Bobby's run for the presidency? I just finished it and it was fantastic.

Happy Father's Day everyone! My dad was actually the one to get me into the Kennedy's, and it has definitely become something we both love discussing together. Anyway, I wrote him this little piece for a Father's Day gift and would like to share it with all of you if anyone is interested!

A Question and Some Icons [14 Jun 2008|08:45pm]

Hey, I have a small question for all of you! I was reading Vanity Fair, and came across this small piece:

Sorensen was reminded of what J.F.K. had said after Bobby once jumped off a sailboat into Nantucket Sound. "It showed either a lot of guts or no sense at all, depending on how you looked at it."

I looked around, hoping to find something more in depth about this story, since they just mentioned it in passing, and it strikes me as an interesting story. If anyone knows any more about that incident, and would like to fill me in, that would be appreciated! :)

Also, I made 15 icons of Jack and Bobby, and Ted makes an appearance too!

[06 Jun 2008|06:10pm]

A huge thanks to everyone who helped me out last week! My presentation to my government class went extremely well. Though my teacher and I went back and forth on a few issues, I think that I had the class convinced that JFK was truly a man of character and great accomplishment. Your suggestions certainly contributed to my success, and I appreciate everyone who took the time to help :D

After class my teacher came over to me and said he was impressed with my knowledge. He apologized and explained himself, and we're on really good terms now. He even came to my graduation party and wrote me a nice card ending it with "Kennedy Forever!"

Oh, and speaking of graduation, you should all know that I went out with a bang!Collapse )
