I solemnly swear I am up to no good

1. Name: Jess

2. Age: 20

3. Gender: Female

4. What are your hobbies/interests outside of HP? How do you feel these hobbies/interests contribute to your personality?
I am an avid history fanatic, I love to read biographies, war stories (about actual battles), peoples religions and cultures. Even though you can find me in the history building of my school on any given day of the week I also like art, I love to sketch and draw peoples faces. Some of my best work though is usually on a napkin when I am sitting in a restaurant waiting on one of my friends to say something interesting. Because I love to read about the past, I tend to not really talk to the people around me too much, I just watch them and I end up generally laughing at the mistakes they make and the things that they do.

5. Which Harry Potter character do you feel you can relate to the most? Explain. Which character is your favorite? Again, explain.
The character that I feel I can relate to the most would have to be Ginny Weasley, she was betrayed at a very young age by someone that she trusted and she was forced to do things that she didn’t really want to do by that person. No offense I am not going to go into details about who betrayed and hurt me but I can understand what she is going through in the given situation even though the person that did something to me wasn’t a diary but an actual living and breathing human being. Remus Lupin is my favorite character because he is struggling with all the loss around him and that he is a werewolf but he is still noble and doesn’t want to taint the ones he loves with his ‘dark side’ which makes you love him even more.

6. Give us explanations and reasons for and against you being sorted into each house.
a. Gryffindor
It’s the house full of bravery and courage, to be in Gryffindor you are at once surrounded by people who have your back in a fight and you know that generally it is the good side of the fight that you are on.

Because you are brave does not mean you are smart, and knowing when to choose your battles is something that is definitely a must when dealing with untrustworthy persons.

b. Hufflepuff
Loyalty and hardworker are the things that characterize Hufflepuff’s, meaning that they make friends for life and when you say need a friend to help you move or clean house they will be there by your side to help you sort through everything they don’t shy away from such things.

An ox comes to mind when thinking of Hufflepuff, a ox is better at pulling a cart then a horse. Oxen are dull creatures, that are hardworking but not very smart.

c. Ravenclaw
They are the epitome of brains, when in Ravenclaw you will never lack for a study buddy.

Do they do anything else besides study, come on have a little fun for once, get out and live alittle.

d. Slytherin
To be put in Slytherin you know that you must not only struggle within your house but also the outside, even though when looking at the books, you see that the Slytherins put up a strong front, but if you want to be top you have to work your way up there. In Slytherin you would always be marked as ambitious and driven, which means that greatness in what you do is probably a given.

The struggle, to try to prove that you are not an evil slimy git, though not necessarily bad would ultimately be straining on any ones psyche.

7. What was your least favorite moment in HP?
My least favorite moment was when Sirius died, I put the book down for a whole two hours before I would pick it back up and continue reading. I felt so sad for Harry, Remus, and Sirius. Harry lost his father’s best friend and his godfather, his friend even and it was turning out to be his fault that he lost him. Remus lost his last remaining friend from his youth, and one of the few people that he truly loved above all else. Sirius was cheated I think of life, he had just escaped from prison and was living in a hell hole, he had never really got a chance to finish growing up and now he dies in his one brief excursion outside.

8. What about HP appeals to you (e.g. the romance, the adventure, the friendships, the fantasy, the mystery)?
What appeals to me the most is all of it, HP has everything in it that makes a good series and makes it appealing. You can read it and forget who you are for just a moment in time, and to me that is what makes a good story and series.

9. What would you do if your friend was in danger? What would you give up in order to save them? Would you lay your life on the line?
If my friend was in danger I would do what ever I had to do to keep them safe, you see I count my friends, my real friends as my family. I would die for my family, and I would give up my dreams for my family. Friends are the same, I see no difference in my real friends and my family, I would do anything for both.

10. If you could only store one memory in the Pensieve to visit over again, which one would it be? Why?
The one memory I would store in a Pensieve would probably be the day that I first saw my baby nephew Gavin for the first time. I was away at college when he was born, he is my sister’s only son and she is a single mother. My friend Faith drove me home, because I don’t have a car, to see him when he was three weeks old on my birthday. I remember walking into the house and seeing him sitting in his basinet sleeping and I just started to cry and laugh at the same time. I had never seen anything so beautiful in my life and I knew in that moment that I would die just so that he could never feel any pain, so that he never had to struggle for anything.

11. What excites you the most in life? Where do you get the most joy and fulfillment?
I get the most joy when I am reading a good story, I get the most fulfillment when I am at work and I complete a folder of typing. In a story I can forget myself, and just try to figure out what is going to happen next in the story. At work, I work for a professor as basically his secretary, I transcribe letters all day long and it feels really good to sit back when I have finished a folder of letters and look and be able to see what I have done.

12. If you were in Harry's position during the "Snape's Worst Memory" incident, how would you view Peter, James, Sirius, Lily, Remus, and Snape differently? Why?
You can see Peter feeding off of James and the others, it is disgusting, sorry that is always the first thing that comes to mind. James is an arrogant prat, and Sirius is no better. Remus made me kind of mad for just sitting there and not doing anything about what was going on, Lily reacted the way that I expected her too. Snape was innocent in the beginning. It seems to me that James is more like Draco Malfoy and Harry like Snape when it comes to the whole antagonizing people kind of thing.

13. If you had access to a time turner without worry of not being able to return, nor any other restrictions, what would you use it for and why?
No, my past is what shaped me I can’t change the things that have happened to me as much as I would like to. There are some things that people need to learn to live with and to move on from, if someone I love were to die or get hurt then yes I would probably want to change that, but to change things for myself I wouldn’t do.

14. In the Philosopher’s Stone (AKA Sorcerer’s Stone) Neville had a choice: he could let his friends go out at night when they weren’t supposed to and potentially they could lose points for his house, or he could confront them and stop them from breaking the rules. What would you have done in his situation?
Try to stop them, the only thing that you know is that they have already lost points for being out after hours and here they go doing it again so yeah trying to stop them is the only option because to let them go in good conscience does not fit in with the Gryffindor code.

15.Who (dead, alive, or fictional) do you most admire? This can be someone from real life or from Harry Potter.
Louis XIV, he was the son of a gay king and ignorant mother who made it her point that her sons should have a kingly education. Louis grew up in a palace where he played hide and go seek to stay away from the people trying to assassinate him. Growing up to be a very paranoid individual he capitalized on little man and used them to over throw the Lords who had taken over. He was one of the most methodical and greatest leaders in Frances history.

16. What is your favorite book outside of Harry Potter? What is it about this book that endears it to you?
Favorite book is Mister Touch by Malcolm Bosse, its set in a slight futuristic United States where the U.S. is stricken down by a deadly virus derived from AIDS. The thing that gets me most about this story is that it is filled with hope, mystery, love in unlikely places and plenty of sarcasm.

17. In Goblet of Fire, Harry was chosen for the Tri-Wizard Tournament even with the age-line. Ron was unable to enter because of the age restriction even though he really wanted to be a part of the Tournament. Was Ron right to be jealous/angry at Harry? Were Harry's reactions appropriate? Why?
Ron’s jealousy and anger was a true show of human nature and made me as a reader want to give JK Rowling a hug for getting the teenage emotions down pat. Both behaved as two regular teenage boys, and though you feel for Harry because he has been unjustly entered into the contest that could kill him you also feel for Ron who has as usual been passed by in the spotlight and it seems he has always been passed by. You feel for both and you can relate because at some point or another you have been the friend who has been passed by for your best friend or you are the one getting undue attention for something that you can not help and one of your buds is left out in the cold.

18. Which class would you look forward to the most at Hogwarts? Which classes do you/did you excel in most at school?
I would look forward to the most would be potions, it goes back to high school because in school I was good at science and loved chemistry projects when we would try to get chemical reactions from certain ingredients, my favorite was when my teacher mixed potassium and water together, to put it shortly big explosion lots of questions from administrators.

19. In the wizarding world, all 5th year students are required to pick a career to focus on going into their 6th and 7th years at Hogwarts. What career path would you choose? Why? How does it relate to what you wish to do (or are currently doing) in the future?
I would choose something do with law enforcement, an Auror as corny as that is because my focus for the future is law enforcement. I have wanted to help others since I was a senior in high school and now I get to take that chance an may be help someone like the officer that helped me.

20. In the Wizarding world, some pure-blood wizards consider Muggle-borns "filthy" and "horrible." In our world, people are categorized by their wealth, racial background, and appearance. What are your opinions on Muggle-borns? What are the qualities that you value in others?
I am from the south, and to categorize people based on outward appearances is something that I have dealt with my entire life. I don’t see the need to categorize people, everyone fits into the same category until they show me that they don’t deserve my respect because of there own attitude. My mother raised me to respect everyone as long as they treated me with respect in turn. No one deserves to be judged by appearance or because they come from a different background than you.

21. You have stumbled across five magical wells. One is the Well of Common Sense and Logic, the second is the Well of Creativity, the third is the Well of Optimism, the fourth is the Well of Physical Strength, and the fifth is the Well of Beauty. You can only drink from one well, but once you do you will be endowed with that ability for the rest of your life. Which well do you think you would definitely not need, and which do you think you would want to drink from?
I do not think that I would need Creativity, I am already creative. If I were to pick Beauty then you would think that I am superficial, well think me superficial but hear me out first. I am the ‘best friend’ of the pretty girls. You know the girl that is nice, smart, funny, but she’s not pretty and she strangely enough always is always the girl that has the gorgeous best friend. I guess I am just tired of being looked over for my best friend, and it would be nice if only in a fairytale to be picked first.

22. If you had to make 5 Horcruxes, who are what objects would you choose and why? Meaning, what means the most to you and why what significance does it have that you would want to put your soul into it?
First off, don’t you know that to make a Horcrux you have to kill someone? Well putting that slightly disturbing part of the making behind: 1) my stuff animal tiger, I have had him since I was three and he is the one thing that I have always had with me. 2) this wooden box with chickens painted on it, my mom is obsessed with chicken memorabilia and this is the one thing that I like. 3) my ring, my mom bought it for me one day on this shopping/bonding trip that we did, its really simple wedding band that I wear on my right hand, it’s the only piece that I wear. (just to tell you this gets really hard after three) 4) this picture of my dog in this glass green frame, my dog Dixie was my constant companion when I was younger and when my mom and step-dad divorced I had to leave her, and the picture is the only thing that I have to remember her with. 5) I would have to say the final thing that I would put a part of my soul into would be small cross that I have, I got it when I was seventeen at a retreat that my church went to and it was with me when I made a lot of good memories and now it just sits tarnishing in a box.

23. What would your boggart form be and why?
It would probably be my father, he is the only thing in the world that frightens me above all else and just seeing him would freeze me.

24. Anything else you want to tell us before we sort you? Also, please tell us where you heard about this community. (Members who refer new applicants receive points, so please try to be as specific as possible.)
I don’t have anything else to say but thank-you if you read all this and the person that I heard this from was actually a site on live journal blond_ambition.
