"- I had know that was all it would take to keep that hag Witherpool off my case and away from my stories, I would have volunteered to bring lunch for everyone before. It is not my fault she's got a thing for chicken salad. How was I supposed to know you aren't supposed to use the entire - What? - What do you mean I'm on the air? Already? Why didn't you say something sooner?"

"This is Rita Skeeter live in the gardens of the Black Orchid Hotel - which is the closest I can get thanks to security and that restraining order. That sound you hear is an almost tribal rhythm emanating from the hotel ballroom."

The noise grew momentarily louder before being drowned out by the unmistakable sounds of snapping twigs and a whispered curse. "They nearly saw me that time."

"Almost a primal beat, primal enough to remind this reporter of the events that occurred in that very ballroom just a few short months ago. Will tonight's festivities end in yet another veil of silence, much like the day after the Valentine's Ball and the rumored, yet sadly unsubstantiated, orgy that may or may not have taken place?"

"As always, ladies and gentlemen, WWN is always interested in the comments and concerns of our listeners. More importantly, if you personally witnessed a sensational bit of scandal, owl me, Rita Skeeter, care of the WWN. The Wizarding Wireless Network now returns you to our regularly scheduled programing."

If you carry your childhood with you, you never become older.
- Abraham Sutzkever
Saturday, May 5th ~ Afternoon

Roger grabbed a bottle of ale and set the broom he had just dismounted carefully aside. Looking around he couldn't keep the grin off his face. Some friends, a picnic, a few rounds of Quidditch, and a cold ale to drink - there was no better way to celebrate your birthday in his opinion.

And the best was yet to come.

Roger made his way over to Vera, thinking of the surprise he had enlisted the house elves help in setting up back in his quarters. Roger couldn't stop smiling as he plopped down next to his - hopefully - future wife and gave her a kiss.

"And what have you been up to?"

Wednesday, February 14th ~ Evening

"We interrupt the 'Lover's Serenade' to bring you news from the Black Orchid Hotel. This is good, so straighten your clothes and listen to Rita for a moment, you lucky lovers out there.

"Witnesses say Healers from St. Mungo's had to be called to the scene because of a scandalous outbreak on the main dancefloor.

"Spokespeople for the Malfoy-owned establishment had no official comment to give, but according to guests it was socialite and friend of the family Pansy Parkinson who caused the disturbance. Gentlemen, please, if you're going to start panting and rioting over a witch, do it over someone with her own nose. This is 100-percent Skeeter here — get it while it's hot!

"Apparently the scene has quieted down now, but with a near-orgy going on out in the open, who knows what might have happened in the more secluded rooms? Shocking behavior indeed to be linked with one of the wizarding world's stiffly upstanding (Floo me, Lucius!) families.

Thursday, February 1 ~ Evening

"... And lastly tonight, a juicy little tidbit from up north.

"It seems wedding bells soon will be ringing through the halls of learning.

"Izabel Sinistra, Head of Ravenclaw House, has of course been a well-respected fixture of Hogwarts for years, instructing classes of students in the ways and means of the stars above as the Astronomy professor.

"Equally obsessed with the heavens — especially tonight, as the full Hunger Moon fills the sky — is the werewolf who rejoined the castle faculty after the Ministry of Magic made the controversial wartime political maneuver of lightening the protective anti-werewolf legislation. Professor Remus Lupin has apparently made himself quite at home at Hogwarts.

"Now, sources say, the two Heads of House will be making their long-standing affair de coeur official.

"When will the ceremony be, where will it be held, and how did a werewolf on a teacher's salary afford what is said to be quite the impressive ring?

"Trust me, darling listeners, you will know moments after your friend Ana does.

"This has been the Witherpool Whirlpool, your source for all the society news worth knowing. Tune in tomorrow night when the extracurricular activities of the filthy Falmouth Falcons get a turn under the microscope."

WWN News Update
Saturday, January 6 ~ Evening

"... And as parents across the commonwealth well know, this weekend the Hogwarts Express will speed across the land to bring the students back to their books.

"Tonight, though, the members of the Board of Governors and select members of the Hogsmeade community were welcomed to the castle ahead of the start of second term by the staff.

"Percy Weasley, the director of the Hogsmeade Ministry office, spoke at length and quite knowlegeably about traditional and non-traditional spellcasting methods.

"So, students, take comfort in this as you head back to class: even over the holidays, your teachers went in for a little learning themselves."

"Never too old, eh?"

The sound of a door creaking open floated over the airwaves, and if one listened closely, a fiercely whispered exchange could be heard:

"Tell them about the after-party! The drunken debauchery! Tell them what really happened!"

"Rita, get the hell out of here! You don't have any sources, we'll get sued ..."

"Some greedy witch got engaged before I could have a fair crack at the groom-to-be! That's injustice! I should write an editorial ..."

A fierce rustling was heard, and the original voice returned.

"This has been Ezekiel Brunderbluss with your evening news and as always ladies and gentlemen WWN is interested in the comments and concerns of our listeners. If you have one, please contact us by owl or floo. We appreciate the interest shown and will respond as soon as possible. The Wizarding Wireless Network now returns you to our regularly scheduled programing."

Saturday, Oct. 28 ~ Nightfall to dawn

"... Get your fun in while you can, because a cold front will be settling in tomorrow. Tonight will be a busy night across the land, with pubs packed and parties in full swing.

"And why do you think it is, my dear listeners? Just because the holiday proper falls on a weekday? Oh, no, I hardly think it's that simple.

"Hallowe'en is Tuesday. All Hallows' Eve, Samhain, the night when spirits may breech the barrier between their world and ours with ease.

"Let all the good little witches and wizards have their fun tonight. Make it your own. For Hallowe'en ... does not belong to us."

Tuesday, August 29th ~ Evening

The Great Hall has once again been temporarily revamped. The long student tables have been removed and round ones accompanied by comfortable dining chairs have taken their place. They dot the floor under the enchanted ceiling, the soft ivory tone of the linen covering the table tops invite you to sit and enjoy yourself.

It's been a year since the re-dedication ceremony and six years since the Dark Lord was finally defeated. This is an evening for reflection, celebration and if Minerva will allow it, more than a few glasses of good wine with friends, both old and new.

Time keeps on slipping, slipping, slipping into the future
Sunday afternoon

The newscaster wrapped up the report on a minor river troll rampage and moved to a tiny bit of business news before the segue back into music:

"Enterprising mums are getting the hop on the back-to-school season by doing their shopping a bit ahead of the crowds soon to be swamping Diagon Alley. Shopkeepers report their early August sales receipts are up 5 percentile points from last year."

"Meanwhile, all the young folk, soon to be bright scholars once more, are eager to capture all the idyllic moments remaining before the carefree days of this summer are gone forever."

"And the perfect soundtrack to accompany all your summer fun is just around the corner — a little birdie has slipped the WWN the latest from the Weird Sisters! We'll be bringing it to you before it hits the shops, right after these messages."

Midsummer's Festival
Saturday, June 24th ~ Early Evening

"This is Anastasia Witherpool, live in downtown Hogsmeade where the Midsummer's Festival is well under way. People are crowding the streets, vendors are out offering their - "

A slight scuffle is heard over the air, ending in Anastasia muffling a curse and muttering about her foot.

"Rita Skeeter here. Voting for this year's Litha Queen is still open and remember, every vote counts some more than others so be sure to come out and vote for your favorite candidate. Someone you know and trust, someone you would welcome into your homes every evening during her segment on the nightly news. Someone, for instance, like me?"

-back that microphone, woman, before I -

"Ezekiel Brunderbluss, back at the WWN studio once more. We seem to be experiencing some technical difficulties with our live broadcast.

"Please remember WWN is always interested in the comments and concerns of our listeners. Feel free to, contact us by owl or floo. Wednesday, June 21st ~ Evening

Everything was set up and ready to go, the pub now decked out in western flair. Draco still wasn't sure what the purpose of the mechanical bull that had been set up in the back room was - but he was more than willing to watch the waiter's jean clad thighs clench as he demonstrated.

I wonder if he rides everything that well?

As the man was thrown, Draco checked his watch and went out to greet the people starting to arrive.

Summer afternoon - Summer afternoon... the two most beautiful words in the English language.
-- Henry James

Friday, June 16th ~ Afternoon

"Thank you, Ezekiel.

"This is Anastasia Witherpool, live at Hogsmeade Station where the Hogwarts Express has just left, carrying many a thrilled boy and girl. To them school is out and summer has officially begun. Many a student mentioned plans for a celebration tonight.

"Here at home, things shall undoubtedly be quieter. Back to you Ezekiel."

...I said I'm on the air Rita, come back later.

"What was that?"

Someone cleared their throat and the anchorman's voice filled the airwaves. "Thank you, Anastasia, for that brief, yet informative update.

"As always ladies and gentlemen WWN is interested in the comments and concerns of our listeners. If you have one, please contact us by owl or floo. We Are All Born Naked And Screaming And If You're Lucky That Sort Of Thing Won't Stop There
Friday, June 2nd ~ Evening

"I have no idea who is screwing who so just check them in like they say and then send them to the ballroom. Oh!" Draco's eyes widened slightly and he leaned over to talk to the manager in a hushed tone, "If a Ron Weasely or a Daphne Greengrass check in send them out to the stable." He smirked and his grin fell slightly. "Well - only if she's alone. Idiot would get pissy otherwise."

Leaving the man with his final instructions, Draco made his way back to his accommodations - only the best of course - to freshen up, he had an entrance to make after all. So far things were moving along nicely - the staff was well trained and had easily accepted the booking of a Wizarding Proctologists Convention - allegedly to keep the press away, actually to keep his family away and the ruse seemed to have worked. Not to mention it provided him with endless personal amusement.

Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me...

Never let your sense of morals prevent you from doing what's right.

Saturday, May 13th ~ Afternoon

Minerva had done something she hadn't done in years. Slept in. It was Saturday and she had been tired. Tired enough she didn't care what Slughorn thought when she roused the lazy - Assistant Headmaster from his bed and informed him that she wasn't to be disturbed. She'd already made sure that the others were alright and that Poppy was handling any repercussions with the appropriate potions or healing charms.

(When Minerva finally rose for the day around the noon hour, she'd still felt tired, but not as content as she imagined she'd feel.)

Hey man, you know

Friday, May 12th/Saturday, May 13th * The Witching Hour

The corridors of Hogwarts were still, except for the occasional ghost or House Elf, and in their dormitories the students safely slumbered.

But in the staff meeting room, chaos reigned.

Professors in various states of alertness — some groggy and in nightdress, others prepared and eager to go out and face the night and whatever might be in it — had answered their Headmistress' summons.

( Firenze stood and watched Madame Pomfrey attempt to calm the Flying instructor. )

Bow Down Before The One You Serve
You're Going To Get What You Deserve

Friday, May 12th ~ Night

He waited, watching, by now knowing that she would be along and the annoying one - the shadow would follow. He had briefly thought of turning the other - he looked strong - but he was attached to her and it would not do to have his possession challenged. He would enjoy taking her away - the man had been in his way for far too long and he had to take her now - the moon would be full the next night - he had missed the last one - his pack would be strong as she needed to be - if she was unworthy the wolf would devour her, not wasting his seed.

He could hear them approach and turned to glare at the voices urging him on, to take what was his and saw them, the faces from the past, bloody and mangled. He would not make the mistake again, his children would not fail him. Excited and breathing heavily he moved behind the one that would hinder him, deny him his family, as she - the mother moved away. Dragging the struggling man back he delivered a blow to his head, watching in satisfaction as he sunk to the ground. He was tempted to snap his neck - but anxious to move back to her, lest another encroach on his territory. ( Let him live - let him live and suffer and know that she is mine - that he failed to keep us apart... )

St Patrick's Day
Friday, March 17th ~ Evening

"...and to end our little salute to St Patrick, we bring you some little known facts about a drink I'm sure the majority of you will have consumed before the evening is over."

A slight rustle of paper is heard and a throat is cleared lightly.

"About 4000 years ago, it was the accepted practice in Babylonia that for a month after the wedding, the bride's father would supply his son-in-law with all the mead he could drink. Mead is a honey beer, and because their calender was lunar based, this period was called the 'honey month' or what we know today as the 'Honeymoon'.

History of Valentine's Day
~ The History Channel ~
Tuesday, February 14th ~ Evening

"Every February, across the country, candy, flowers, and gifts are exchanged between loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine. But who is this mysterious saint and why do we celebrate this holiday?

"The history of Valentine's Day -- and its patron saint -- is shrouded in mystery. But we do know that February has long been a month of romance. St. Valentine's Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition.

So, who was Saint Valentine and how did he become associated with this ancient riteCollapse )

What's The Wizarding Family Next To You Doing These Days?
Saturday, February 4th ~ Evening

".... and that was interesting wasn't it? I'll be sure and keep you up to date on the developments as I make them appear they occur. With all the *sniff* spectacular stories lately concerning Azkaban, which I'm sure would have been of a great deal more interest if given from the woman's point of view, I'd like to bring you something a little lighter.

"With the holidays over, many people are finding themselves in a slump. What better time to have a party, just for the sake of seeing friends and relatives. If you'd care to have a special guest that could give one sided but glowing reports of your social calender, be sure a drop me an owl here at WWN and I'll see if I can fit it in my schedule.

"I was fortunate enough to slip into such a party earlier this evening. It was termed a house warming party and in my opinion, parts of it were so scorching it should have burned the building down. The night started mind numbingly dull bland enough, with sickening heartwarming displays of incestuous undertones sibling affection and the bondage? bonds of friendship. Luckily the bar was well stocked and with the promise of men to ogle and wine to drink a colorful gathering, I settled down on a wall to observe."

Er - Rita? You did actually get invited to this event right?Collapse )

...And The Children Were Nestled, All Snug In Their Beds...
Saturday, January 7 ~ Late Evening

"...Parents are breathing a sigh of relief as students prepare to return to school from winter break. The Hogwarts Express pulls out sharply on time, don't be late! Teachers arrived at the school today, no doubt either enjoying those last few moments of peace or frantically finishing up in time for the new term to begin on Monday. We've been unable to reach Minerva McGonagall, Headmistress for any comment, representatives from her office have expressed her regrets, as she is also indisposed during this busy time."

"We here at the Wizarding Wireless Network wish the students and their families all the best in this upcoming year, we know they're in good hands."

"As always ladies and gentlemen WWN is always interested in the comments and concerns of our listeners. If you have one, please contact us by owl or floo. Happy Birthday, Bill!
Friday, December 2nd - Evening

Dad had owled asking him to stop by and help tend the Friday night crowd. Something about Molly being busy and after the last accident with the gas powered toaster explosion - Bill had paused at this point and wondered what in Hades his father had down now before realizing it didn't matter because he'd never understand how Arthur's mind worked - she preferred that someone was around to assist him. Bill read between the lines and deduced that Mum wanted a babysitter.

And I've been elected.

Bill pulled open the door to the bar and stepped in, shaking snow out of his hair.

All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, to make it possible.

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Ezekiel Brunderbluss here and tonight I'd like to take you on a little journey through the history of Halloween. We all know the modern traditions. Some of us hold parties, costumed or not, in order to celebrate and enjoy being with friends. Children go door to door in search of treats to fill their bags. We carve pumpkins and place lighted candles inside to show off our handy work from afar.

When you seek your bed this evening, will you check for monsters underneath or in the closet?Collapse )
