The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed.
-Carl G. Jung
Wednesday, July 11th ~ Afternoon

Draco had been bothered since his party by recollections of this 'Philip Parish'. Had the resemblance really been that strong, or had he drank a bit more than he had thought at that point? There had definitely been drinking after the man had left...

Common opinion seemed to be that the man really had looked like Vasily - but again, the drinking. Draco vaguely recalled the stand-off and obtaining confirmation that it wasn't him - along with something else.

Parish had mentioned developing Hogsmeade. Which, Draco assured himself as he brushed by the protesting assistant and into the man's office, was why he was here. As a concerned citizen and major property holder. Not to 'confirm identity' again. Right.

Why didn't you say something sooner?"

"This is Rita Skeeter live in the gardens of the Black Orchid Hotel - which is the closest I can get thanks to security and that restraining order. That sound you hear is an almost tribal rhythm emanating from the hotel ballroom."

The noise grew momentarily louder before being drowned out by the unmistakable sounds of snapping twigs and a whispered curse. "They nearly saw me that time."

"Almost a primal beat, primal enough to remind this reporter of the events that occurred in that very ballroom just a few short months ago. Will tonight's festivities end in yet another veil of silence, much like the day after the Valentine's Ball and the rumored, yet sadly unsubstantiated, orgy that may or may not have taken place?"

Saturday, May 5th ~ Afternoon

Roger grabbed a bottle of ale and set the broom he had just dismounted carefully aside. Looking around he couldn't keep the grin off his face. Some friends, a picnic, a few rounds of Quidditch, and a cold ale to drink - there was no better way to celebrate your birthday in his opinion.

And the best was yet to come.

Roger made his way over to Vera, thinking of the surprise he had enlisted the house elves help in setting up back in his quarters. Roger couldn't stop smiling as he plopped down next to his - hopefully - future wife and gave her a kiss.

"And what have you been up to?"

Fool Me Once...
Tuesday, May 1st ~ Afternoon

It was probably quite naive of Narcissa to be so blindsided by her husband's actions, but she'd never - that she knew of at any rate - been on the receiving end of one of them. Her hand strayed to the slightly larger bulge under her gown and while she couldn't and wouldn't take any actions against the child - Lucius was another matter.

Confirmation was needed from an unimpeachable source. She hadn't believed the words the stuttering elf had managed to spit out in its idiotic ramblings while it bashed its head on the floor. Only the fact it was the one that had served Narcissa faithfully since her childhood kept her from ordering its disposal on the spot.

Which was why Narcissa found herself with one hand covering her second child while the other knocked on the door housing her first. From what she could gather, the elf had given the suspect potion to her son in defiance of the order from Lucius to destroy it.

Telling Draco
Sunday, April 15th ~*~ Late Afternoon

It was late afternoon before Daphne was able to get away from work. Since she took Friday off to spend with Harry, she wanted to make up a few hours. She spent the extra time working on her budget to make sure there was enough money coming in to make it possible to give Miguel a raise and let her hire a new assistant manager.

Dobby met her at the door when she got home to take her coat, and Daphne asked where Harry was. After changing her clothes, she wandered outside to the visit the old shack near the back of the property.

"Harry? Dobby said you were out here doing something. We're not going to be cleaning the gutters again, are we?"

"This is Rita Skeeter, standing just outside, around the back, in an alley behind, the Three Broomsticks, where a reception for one of Hogsmeade's former most eligible bachelor's - and his blushing bride - is taking place, to bring you a WWN exclusive."

"Can it, Anastasia, I don't care who got the assignment from the boss, the story is Mine. Keep it up, and I just might forget to take that gag off before I leave. Understand?"

"Now, where was I? Oh, yes, the quicky wedding of hunky recluse and defense school owner, Harry Potter, to restaurateur and frump, Daphne Greengrass occurred weeks ago with almost no fanfare and a tragically small guest list. Once word of the marriage hit the streets, some of the most delicious rumors began to circulate over the mysterious circumstances behind the event."

"Some sources say the couple had been estranged, and were shocked to hear of the wedding when I told them, still others speculated on the need for such a rapid and quiet affair. So far there are no signs of impending motherhood - although the bride has been carrying a few extra pounds for quite some time - but one can't help but wonder if there might be a new member of the Potter family showing up soon."

"What? I said if, they can't sue us for merely voicing some of the public opinion, Anastasia. Stop being such a worrywart."

Sometimes when I reflect back on all the wine I drink I feel shame.
Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the vineyards and all of their hopes and dreams.
If I didn't drink this wine, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered.
Then I say to myself, It is better that I drink this wine and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver.

Once Draco had reached a certain age, Malfoy family dinners had certainly become more interesting.

First there were before dinner drinks.

Then wine with dinner.

Then after dinner drinks.

Family was decidedly easier to handle with a buzz. "...and he didn't even get a pre-nup! The fucking Idiot - is that legal?"

As Harry sat looking across his desk at Doris - who was droning on and on about things that supposedly needed his immediate attention - he was having a pleasant little daydream about being at home, in bed with his wife. Until his elbow - which had been used to support his head - fell asleep and threatened to collapse. He blinked his eyes, straightened up and shook his arm awake off to the side.

"Doris?"

Another piece of paper was laid on top of the stack she'd already placed on the desk top and her mouth kept moving.

"Doris!"

And yet another one joined it and the words were flowing faster than he could keep up with.

"Doris!"

Hedwig had nearly flown herself into exhaustion, but each of the handful of invitations had made it to their intended recipients in record time.

The ceremony was small and quick. The bride wore the same robes her mother had been married in, the groom a suit. Their friends had gathered in the window room over looking the lake, and Severus Snape gave the bride away.

Draco stood in his foyer, preparing to apparate to Glen Hollow for dinner - and not entirely sure that he should. Or one saying 'whoops' or any variation thereof that Draco had been anticipating.

Thursday, March 1st ~ Afternoon

After Harry's order to cancel the rest of his classes for the day, Doris tried to recover from the sheer terror respect his glare had inspired in her feet. They refused to move until Draco's voice motivated her to assist them - quietly for once - in gathering the students. While she was occupied shooing the reluctant ones into the auditorium, her thoughts tumbled around which students she needed to get out of his remaining classes. Shooting Severus and Draco an occasional glance, she decided they'd get the ass-grabbers this time around.

At least they'll live to grab another one someday.

"I want... I need, more than what we have. I want to get married. I want a family. With you, ideally."

No amount of alcohol, physical exercise or reckless rides on the motorcycle seemed to wash Daphne's words out of Harry's mind. The expression on her face when he told her he couldn't give them to her haunted him as well. Nightmares had returned with a vengeance cloaked in more pleasurable beginnings.

The elves had been entirely unable to do anything to please the mistress of the house since she had returned from the outing with the master of the manor the day before. There had been much ear ironing and smashing of heads with oven doors occurring as well as a few elves who were forced to resort to throwing themselves off the roof when all the traditional ways of punishing themselves were taken. The only saving grace for the poor creatures was that the regular Friday evening meal with the son of the manor attending was postponed until the next evening after a flurry of owls had been sent. The tray brought to the mistress' room later was thrown out into the hall with a resounding crash of china and crystal.

Draco stepped back from his creation and tilted his head to the side. Perfect. Looking up as a woman passed muttering something or other about public indecency - the very idea, he was a Malfoy and therefor far beyond mere decency and into the realm of the superior - and promptly blew a raspberry in her direction.

He turned in a slow circle, admiring his work and trying to decide what was missing.Collapse )

Sitting down at her desk with a sigh, Anne pulled the top, right hand drawer open to find the latest forms the Ministry office had sent her to fill out.

"If I could spend as much time actually talking to the students as I do having to fill out the latest most comprehensive and efficient forms they send..." Anne was grumbling to herself as she lifted a stack of folders onto the desk top and leafed through them quickly. "Where the hell-oo. What's this?" Anne asked as one of the folders knocked over the pile of mail she hadn't taken care of yet. A colorful brochure caught her eye as it was revealed.

Pulling out the shiny foldout, her eyebrows rose at the images.

WWN News Update
Saturday, January 6 ~ Evening

"... And as parents across the commonwealth well know, this weekend the Hogwarts Express will speed across the land to bring the students back to their books.

"Tonight, though, the members of the Board of Governors and select members of the Hogsmeade community were welcomed to the castle ahead of the start of second term by the staff.

"Percy Weasley, the director of the Hogsmeade Ministry office, spoke at length and quite knowlegeably about traditional and non-traditional spellcasting methods.

"So, students, take comfort in this as you head back to class: even over the holidays, your teachers went in for a little learning themselves."

"Never too old, eh?"

The sound of a door creaking open floated over the airwaves, and if one listened closely, a fiercely whispered exchange could be heard:

"Tell them about the after-party! The drunken debauchery! Tell them what really happened!"

"Rita, get the hell out of here! You don't have any sources, we'll get sued ..."

"Some greedy witch got engaged before I could have a fair crack at the groom-to-be! That's injustice! I should write an editorial ..."

A fierce rustling was heard, and the original voice returned.

"This has been Ezekiel Brunderbluss with your evening news and as always ladies and gentlemen WWN is interested in the comments and concerns of our listeners. If you have one, please contact us by owl or floo. We appreciate the interest shown and will respond as soon as possible. The quick fanfare announcing a feature piece lilted over the WWN airwaves, followed by the familiar voice of Horace Knickerbocker.

"Ciaran McIrney remembers his first Cribbage's Wizarding Cracker well."

A high-pitched male voice came over the network.

"I was two years old, and my older sisters were squabbling over the last cracker. I somehow got hold of one end when Marcia let go and sort of fell on it as it opened — my face was blue from the smoke for a month after. Mum was angry at the time, but brings the piccies out now whenever I have a bird over. Still have the Screaming Yo-yo I got from it, though."

The smooth voice of the narrator took up the thread.Collapse )

Thursday, December 21st ~ The Dawn of the Winter Solstice

Snow swirled in the fury of the wind, blinding all but those with the keenest sight. For those few fortunate ones, a glimpse of a moving shadow now and then could be caught. It bestowed a gift of unusual sculpture in the form free of kingly coverings. Exuberant, almost crackling with magic, Finvar embraced the heart of Winter. For this was the Unseelie's day - his day to wrest from Summer that which should have been theirs all along. The dance of power was a celebration of sorts. In anticipation of the glorious battle to come when the sun was allowed to rise.

Another perfectly normal Sunday
Sunday, December 10th ~*~ Late Afternoon

Daphne was stretched out on the couch in front of the telly; Harry's head on a pillow in her lap as they watched a movie. Her fingers slid through his hair gently, brushing against his ear every once in awhile. The week had been hectic with all the shoppers stopping in for a bite to eat as they prepared for the holidays and it was so nice to be able to just relax and veg without a care in the world.

Her head tilted back, eye lids growing heavy as thoughts of an afternoon nap began to stir. Daphne shifted slightly to cuddle into the couch and froze at the unexpected sight of Dobby standing in the doorway wringing his hands.

"We've got company," she whispered to Harry. Best not to startle the insane eccentric elf.

Theo had come to Hogsmeade with a plan - a plan that had seemed perfect. Unfortunately his prey had made other plans and not shown.

How very inconsiderate.

He was vehement that the appointment would be kept this time - he was even willing to come to them if necessary. Which would go to explain his first stop, climbing over the balcony of Draco Malfoy's penthouse and slipping through his wards.

Now, if I was a vain and vapid git, where would I keep...

The closet.

"And why do you think it is, my dear listeners? Just because the holiday proper falls on a weekday? Oh, no, I hardly think it's that simple.

"Hallowe'en is Tuesday. All Hallows' Eve, Samhain, the night when spirits may breech the barrier between their world and ours with ease.

"#20 - Despite its proven stress-relieving effect, I will not indulge in maniacal laughter. When so occupied, it's too easy to miss unexpected developments that a more attentive individual could adjust to accordingly. Peter's Evil Overlord List

Wednesday, October 18, 2006 - afternoon

Greg touched his temple with the tip of his wand and pulled out a silver thread. The memory of telling Lucius Malfoy what he 'knew about Draco' was just too priceless to keep to himself. Draco had to see the expression on the man's face.

After bottling the memory into a small individual memory container he penned his note.

Draco,

I hope you have a pensieve. This is just too amusing. Words cannot describe it, you have to see this yourself.

Greg

A few minutes later a dignified owl winged into the sky towards Draco's home, bearing the note and bottle.

He couldn't take it anymore. Ignoring hadn't worked - apparently this wasn't going to stop unless he acknowledged It, somehow validating Its existence? It was very odd and made no sense to him - it had been so very long ago you'd think It would have moved on by now - but no.

Too irresistible for my own good.

Shaking his head Draco moved to his seldom used floo and threw in the powder. "Glen Hollow!" Reluctantly sticking his head in - floo calling was so dirty but owling would take far longer than he was prepared to wait. "Potter! Get your arse over here and bring some of those melons from Dobby's garden with you! Now!"
