Coverage Of A Press Release From The Ministry
Saturday, February 11th ~ Morning

The latest Weird Sisters song is cut off as an attention-getting sound chimes and the voice of Ezekiel Brunderbluss announces, "Ladies and gentleman, we interrupt this program to bring you an important news bulletin. We are going live to Horace Knickerbocker at the Ministry of Magic. Horace, are you there?"

"I am, Ezekiel and thank you. I was notified just a short time ago that Stamford Jorkins, Ministry spokesperson, was preparing to make a statement in reference to the recent activity concerning the inmates at Azkaban. As our listening audience is well aware, a lot of reforms have been taking place over the last few months. Rumors as to what these reforms are have been rampant, but the actual facts have been extremely hard to obtain."

"I've got a bad feeling about this," Ezekiel was heard to mutter lowly before speaking in a normal voice. "Horace, we know that much of the activity has been due to increased pressure from the Malfoy's legal team in recent months-"

"Sorry to interrupt, Ezekiel, but Mr. Jorkins is coming out and I need to try and move a little closer. It is interesting to note that a number of Aurors are accompanying him."

Rustling movements of notebooks being opened, shuffling footsteps and a short, "Sorry, hope it's not broken." was heard before Horace spoke again.

"He appears to be speaking to one of his clerks and now he's moving toward the podium."

There is a clanging noise and calls for attention as the murmur of the reporters' voices in the background dies down.

"Thank you all for coming on such short notice. I have a brief announcement to make and no questions will be accepted at this time." Various grumbling noises are heard as a throat clears. "The Wizengamot held a special session earlier today-" Jorkins' voice called for quiet along with the tones of several Aurors as the crowd began to protest not being informed. After a few moments the commotion stilled and Jorkins continued. "As I was saying, the Wizengamot met earlier to address allegations that have come to light in recent - if you can't be quiet, Dufflemyer, you will be removed - months concerning Azkaban inmates. Due to errors in processing, lost information and evidence by the previous administration, several cases of alleged Death Eater convictions are or will be taken under a new review."

There was a large sigh and lengthy pause before Jorkins continues in a strained voice. "Due to this mishandling, one such inmate is being removed from Azkaban at this time, and will be released regardless of any wrongdoing he may or may not have committed with the Ministry's," the voice now sounded as though it was trying not to choke on the words it put forth, "fullest apologies."

"Lucius Malfoy is currently under Ministry protection and is no longer-" There is a roar of disapproval and several chairs being overturned as Aurors are heard to be ordering people to stay back.

"Ezekiel? Did you get all that? Bedlam is breaking out around me and I don't know how long the Aurors are going to allow us to remain. Jorkins has been escorted out a back entrance and they're beginning to clear the room now," Horace's calm voice advised over the rising discord in the background.

Ezekiel's usually calm voice sounded flustered as he broke back in with an urgent, "Horace! Are you going to be able to get out of there?"

"I'll be fine, Zeke. I'm currently pressed against the wall while the Aurors handle these idi - disgruntled colleagues of mine. Some of them are a bit young yet and don't seem to be able to hang on to their objectivity. Although in this particular instance, I'm very tempted to join in. I do believe that's going to be all for now, so I'll turn it back to you at this time. If anything develops later I'll be sure and contact the station for updates."

A cracking noise is heard before Horace's voice continued while addressing one of those young idiots. "If you stupid little twits had held onto your tempers long enough, we might have been able to sneak in a few questions. But no, you blokes have to be all indignant and-" Thunk "-spoil it for the rest of us.

"Mr. Shacklebolt? One of the protesters over here seems to have lost consciousness for some reason. It might be best to move him. (Before I kick the shit out of him.) I suppose I'd better check this microphone before I try to use it again. Little twerp's head sounded hard."

Zeke's muffled laughter makes it onto the airwaves. "He's ranting, he'll be fine."

"Ladies and gentlemen, this comes as a bit of a shock to us all. We here at the WWN would advise against..." The door to the studio creaks open and the shuffle of papers is heard. "We have just received an owl from the Ministry of Magic advising that until further notice the Ministry is closed to visitors. All business must be conducted by post, which will be inspected by Aurors before being forwarded to the relative departments. The Ministry further advises that there will be an increase in Auror presence in largely populated Wizarding areas to prevent further outbreaks."

There is a pause before Ezekiel speaks in a resigned voice, "As always ladies and gentlemen WWN is always interested in the comments and concerns of our listeners. If you have one, please contact us by owl or floo. We appreciate the interest shown and will respond as soon as possible. The Wizarding Wireless Network now returns you to our regularly scheduled programing."

Soft music begins to play as Ezekiel can be heard arguing with someone in the background. "A gag order on commentaries? This is bullshit and they know it!"
