I finally got around to seeing L word season four... and I was amazed by the fact that in the one scene the celebrity they were trying to guess was Kathleen Hannah! They were like "oh come on! bikini kill! julie ruin! le tigre!" and then were like "she started the riot grrl movement" go l word! it made my night!
Did everyone see this news update from letigreworld.com?
Hi Everybody, Sorry we've been out of touch! It's true that the three of us have taken an extended break from all things Le Tigre. After so many years on the road we really needed to clean our apartments and watch TV for a while... Actually we are each doing all kinds of stuff, and we've even started to talk about making some kind of crazy DVD/live album with all of the video footage and recordings we have from our shows!
Kathleen has been catching up with friends and family, playing softball, and volunteering as a band coach for The Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls. She will be teaching an art class of some kind at NYU's grad school this fall. JD & Jo have started a new DJ/production/remix team called MEN and DJ JD's tour dates can be found here. Jo now owns a hair salon in the West Village called Seagull. No she doesn't do hair, she's just the president. That's all for now.
Love, Le Tigre
P.S. For now the content of letigreworld is archival rather than current. For business matters our management contact remains the same, and to reach the band you can write to us at: 51 MacDougal Street, #227 New York, NY 10012
i just watched some featured video on myspace that included an interview with jd. it was cool to hear about what jd is up to, but even cooler was that every time le tigre was mentioned, it was never in the past tense. i never really believed the band had split up. i guess this is some proof.
This might be really against the "rules" but it is related to Bikini Kill, and therefore related to Le Tigre. And since nothing has happened in this community in months, I figure this can't hurt.... If you want me to take this down just ask and I will.
My band "Monster-Sized Monsters" just had a song of ours called "Evolving to Death" reviewed by a local paper here in Portland, Oregon. We were compared to bands like Bikini Kill and 7 Year Bitch. If you follow the link, you can read the short article and download the mp3 for free, as well as link to our myspace and stuff. Maybe you'll like us! We are for sure influenced by Le Tigre and the whole riot grrl scene.
Hello everyone! I'm Greta and I'm 23 years old. I live in Tennessee in the USA. I joined because I'm a Le Tigre and Kathleen Hanna fan. I love all of Kathleen's stuff: bands, zines, etc. I am also into riot grrrl. I run a riot grrrl resource site called Riot Grrrl Online. I'm glad this community exists.
Heya, hope you guys can help me! I'm looking for a picture of the band I once had but have now lost, as I want to base a painting on it.
It's a fairly old one I think, and the band are leaning against a wall (perhaps). It's a semi side-shot sort of thing, with Kathleen in the foreground. I think she's wearing a pale shirt. Her hair's tied back and she's wearing a large pair of white sunglasses (I think they might have black polkadots on them?).
I'd be really gratefull if someone could post it for me.
Saw Peaches Friday night. JD Samson on keytar. Pretty amazing, and my friend got some amazing pictures. (BTW, the Lesbian Utopia calendar? Rocks.) Seriously, best night of my life. I was three feet away from the stage, and therefore quite close to one of the women I aspire to be like.
Hey, so I know this is a random question, but I'm doing a research paper on Feminist Expression in the Arts, but the main focus is in music. I wanted to devote a couple pages to Riot Grrl, Crust and Punk. I have a bunch of bands that greatly influenced the era, but I'd like to know some of the lesser known ones.. any suggestions would be VERY MUCH appreciated! It's due on Monday so yeah! Thanks guys!
my father and i were driving in the car and out of NOWHERE my dad was like "there was this swedish band on tv the other day... two women and this boy... name some bands... and i named a few and was like, "le tigre?" and he was like, "name some songs" and i was like "tko?" and he was like "yeah! do they do covers?" and i said "i'm so excited?" and he was like "YEAH! i caught an HBO concert with them on it..." and i was like "haha why did you think they were swedish?" and he was like "i dunno... i think they held up a dildo..." and i was like "haha yeah" and i then explained to him how J.D. is a woman xD and it was so random and funny that he stumbled upoun a le tigre concert thing on HBO but it made me sad i didn't see it D=
oh and i showed him a clip on the internet to confirm it was them and i showed him this one picture of J.D. on the tour diaries where u can see her breasteses to prove to him she's a she =D haha it was amusing
so i put some shelves up in my room yesterday, and was digging things out of my closet that i want to put up on them, including my cd cases. even though i have all my cd's in a book, i just wanted to display them. i thought it was kind of funny that i found:
3 copies of le tigre's self titled album 2 copies of this island and one copy of feminist sweepstakes. but i couldn't find my from the desk of mr. lady ep.
i laughed, alot. i also found THREE copies of taking back sunday's first album, and two copies of tom petty and the heartbreaker's greatest hits.
i really don't know how i got all of them. i knew i rebought the self titled album ONCE because i thought i lost it, then found it. but three? and i have no recollection of ever rebuying this island.
looks like i could start myself a record store in my room, or something. i just thought it was funny, and since this community is dead, would share. :-D
I just wanted to share my grief at seeing the green tee design on the website? I don't know if it's the same as the old one, from back like 943745 years ago, but I searched hard for that shirt, and it's only in XL. Give me yours. :(
Just a little note about the new movie Accepted. I saw it Friday night and they happen to play TKO in one scene of the movie during a party. It made my evening. I checked out the soundtrack and it is indeed listed on the soundtrack, so it's all good. Go figure.
sooooo..... this community is dying a little... but i guess thats because le tigre havent really been doing much as a group lately. i was wondering does anyone know whats up with them? have they broken up and i missed it? or are they just persuing sideprojects for a while? its just with sleater-kinney breaking up and all i'd hate to see another riot girl band disolve away... i almost forgot i was in the community until the previous post was posted.
