Coachella 2007

The lineup has been announced.

I honestly am not that intrested in any of the three headliners but some of the other bands are pretty good. I have to say not their best year though.

If I go it will be for Arcade Fire, Interpol, Decemberists, and New Pornographers

Also can someone explain to me how the hell Peeping Tom got on this list. I heard them open for The Who and they are quite possibly one of the worst bands I have ever heard.

April 27th Bjork
April 28th Red Hot Chilli Peppers
April 29th Rage Against The Machine

Arcade Fire
Manu Chao
Willie Nelson
Happy Mondays
Gotan Project
The Good, The Bad and The Queen

So this past Wednesday I went to see the Stills play @ The Underground in Hamilton (Ontario, Canada).

I can honestly say now that not only are they my favourite band because of their music & how awesome they are live but because they are super fun guys to hang out with too.

Without Feathers? Awesome. Nothing like Logic at all but still totally amazing. Talked to Liam a lot about the progression of their songs etc. and about other random stuff. I enjoyed the fact that he explained why they play the songs that they do live.

Anywho.. That's all I suppose! :)

festivals this summer

idk if any of you are around the chicago area, but here are two festivals this summer at union park:

intonation fest 6.24-6.25 (the streets, the stills, bloc party, chromeo, panthers... more) curated by vice records and some college indie radio station i think

pitchfork music fest 7.29-7.30 (36 bands: spoon, yo la tengo, silver jews, mission of burma, ted leo/pharmacists... more)

last year pitchfork curated the first intonation festival. i went to it and it was pretty good, except for some of the sound checks with out hud and prefuse 73. head of femur, ac newman, deerhoof, the wrens, the decemberists, tortoise, the hold steady, andrew bird, xiu xiu, broken social scene... er i cant remember who else. there were 2 stages, tons of people, vinyl stand. im not sure what to expect about intonation this year, since its not being put on by pitchfork, but im definately going to get tickets for at least pitchforks.

I got to see Broken Social Scene on Saturday; it was their last show by themselves in a four-month tour, so they decided to play for 2hours 45minutes. It was soverydamngood, then they played the next day also at the Laneway Festival with Les Savy Fav, Pretty Girls Make Graves and Decoder Ring (and others). Basically, Tim Harrington painted himself red, wore Bondi speedos (and ONLY Bondi speedos) and totally freaked out. A good day all round.

I saw Deerhoof at a teensy tiny venue in Sydney lsat night. They were truly excellent. They broke two speakers and smacked a fair sized chunk of cymbal off. The rock, the rock, oh, the rock. They are also really cool to talk to and came out and mingled without that kinda stop-talking-to-me-I-rock-more-than-you thing. Who else has seen Deerhoof live and can back me up with remembrance of their awesomeness?

Belle and Sebastian Tour

I copied and pasted this from a poster in the Belle and Sebastian community, so if you belong to it then you'll have read this already.

It is with great joy and excitement that we bring you news of Belle & Sebastian's biggest ever US and Canada tour. 22 shows in 18 cities. We are going to be joined on amost all these dates by very special guests The New Pornographers. One exception is Vancouver. I can't remember why. The other exception is Austin, where we will be joined by Mogwai, Cat Power and Pretty Girls Make Graves. In fact, it's not really our show as such, it's a Matador SXSW show, and unfortunately that means very few of you are going to get in, as the vast majority of places are taken by SXSW pass holders. Sorry about that.

You'll notice that not all the ticket information there is quite complete. Keep checking back and it'll appear soon enough. Also, if I may save you the time and bother it'll take to write in and complain about booking fees. We know! But we can't do anything about it! Almost all the venues have deals with the big ticket agencies, so either we just swallow it or we play places so small that a) we don't fit and b) only 150 people get in. At least this way you get the choice of whether to buy a ticket or not. Clearly it's not the cheapest ticket on the market either, but it costs what it costs and I think the addition of The New Pornographers makes it pretty decent value for money. Rest assured that nobody is laughing all the way to the bank. Except the ticket agencies...

Anyway, the dates in full are below. Check www.belleandsebastian.com for details of where to get tickets (Most of the info will be there in a few hours, but football beckons).
