007's Kiwi stunt double, Ben Cooke- who stands in for Daniel Craig in the hit movies, is taking fellow Kiwi, Zoe Bell, to tonight's World Stunt Awards.

(Where are the list of nominees?)

Oh btw, an interesting read over at the Stunt Players Directory Forum about the Taurus Stunt Awards - http://www.stuntplayers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=5146

IMHO it's moreso about internal and external customer service improvement rather than not being able to host shows. So you don't have enough $ to put on shows, that's understandable. But, when you can't even get straight information out to registered voters? Guuh.

Thus far I've no idea if Ms. Bell has been nominated for anything. I believe they are doing another private party again this year. I *wish* they would at the very least do a public release of the list of 2009 nominees.

Anyhow, here's the breakdown so far:

Screening of nominees for the 2009 Taurus World Stunt Awards - 03-24-2009
The deadline to vote for the 2009 Taurus World Stunt Awards - 03-27-2009

I'm guessing the awards could be happening any time soon?

BTW, TWSA has this in their 'legal details' section:

"The Taurus World Stunt Awards makes no guarantee that the awards show will happen, that it will be broadcast, or that any particular performer, performance submission or clip will be included in the show or broadcast thereof."

So I'm guessing televised, public viewing will be a rare thing for the awards. It's too bad some channel like Spike or MTV can't sponsor the shows.

IF ANYONE HAS ANY INFORMATION ON THE NOMINEES OR IF ZB HAS BEEN NOMINATED THIS YEAR, PLEASE LET US KNOW!

Thanks

Submissions for the 2009 Taurus World Stunt Awards deadline is this Friday, Jan 9. Will Ms. Zoë Bell be nominated for anything this year?

ETA:

TAURUS WORLD STUNT AWARDS SHOW POSTPONED TO 2010!

Dear Colleagues,

The Taurus World Stunt Awards television show will be postponed to 2010. With the current worldwide economic situation which also affects the film industry and the stunt community, it is not prudent to produce a show that requires so many resources to maintain the standard and quality of production we have delivered. so far.

The Taurus World Stunt Awards Foundation will continue to honor stunt professionals and now even increase the direct support of those who have been injured in the course of their work. The winners of the 2009 Taurus World Stunt Awards will be announced at a party held for them in May 2009.

Since they haven't updated their website, I'm wondering if they'll be announcing the winners?

While I can understand not putting on a show due to the writer's strike, I do not understand why they have literally kept the public in the dark about it's nominees and now it seems, the winners of the awards. It's already the 18th and there is *nothing* available online in regard to who won. Fail, Taurus World Stunt Awards.

After all the publicity about stunt persons not getting their just kudos.
After a historical year in the making, SAG finally accepting stunt coordination into it's show.

They could have at least made an effort to keep the public in the know.

Fail.
Fail.

I hope they have a press release soon. This is beyond ridiculous. Especially in a year when our girl ZB would have shined.

And yes, this is *my* opinion. It does not however reflect the opinions of other members in this community.

Well, some disappointing news from the folks over at the Taurus Awards:

"Due to the writers strike and the amount of preparation time needed to produce the Taurus World Stunt Awards, it has been decided that we will not attempt to produce the television show in 2008...

Taurus awards will still be awarded for the 2008 year. Nominations will be announced in the coming weeks and winners will still be given a Taurus award. We look forward to continuing to publicly honor the stunt professionals in 2009."

[Statement on their main page]

Well, this BLOWS. I was looking forward to some public recognition not just of Zoë, but of all the people who did kickass work this year. There's something so much more gratifying about seeing a live show with all the nominees and the voting members assembled together. And then there's the little clips and interviews and montages we'll be missing out on.

I hate to say it, but...do they really need writers for the Taurus Awards? I would think they would need stunt coordinators way more. Last year's show was...not the best-written awards show. I mean, they never are (Oscars, Emmys, Golden Globes...all of 'em), but really. Get The Rock out there to cock his eyebrow and flash that smile, introduce the categories, show some pre-filmed clips, and hand out the awards. I would count it a blessing to have an awards show minus the awards show banter.

Direct from her dad, Andrew Bell's blog:

Tish and Zoe are reading a script of Zs. She has an audition thursday. Last night I chatted with Stu a stunt friend of Zs from NZ. It’s quite extraordinary what’s happened and is happening to this small group of kiwi stunties from zena(sic) days. Zoe is doing her thing and the boys are stunt coordinating the next bond movie, the narnia movies, the next movie for the Borne conspiracy people and goodness knows what else.

Most of these boys are from the same small martial arts group in auckland. They are or are becoming major players in the stunt movie game world wide - well done Stu, Allan, Ben, Mark and a couple of others whose names escape me.

Someone should do a story on these guys.

Industry's stunt pros honored
Bruce Willis and Johnny Depp's stunt doubles are among this year's honorees.
By Robert W. Welkos, Times Staff Writer
May 25, 2007

It is the start of the summer movie season, when theater screens are filled with all manner of mayhem, when Hollywood movie stars electrify audiences in high-speed car chases, elaborate fight sequences and deafening explosions that send bodies hurtling through the air.

But two stuntmen who provide such thrills and chills admit they are lucky to be alive today. While rehearsing a scene last October as Bruce Willis' stunt double in "Live Free or Die Hard," Larry Rippenkroeger fell from a fire escape three stories to the pavement below. He managed to break his fall at the last second, but the impact smashed his face and left him unconscious.

As Johnny Depp's stunt double, Tony Angelotti was rehearsing a scene in July 2005 that involved high work on "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" when he went into a free fall, the cabling jerked to a stop, and his legs were pulled apart like a wishbone and his pelvis nearly ripped apart. He was left hanging by his foot. Angelotti and Rippenkroeger are being honored at the sixth annual Taurus World Stunt Awards airing tonight at 10:30 on AMC. The show, often referred to as the stunt world's equivalent of the Oscars, was taped Sunday night at Paramount Pictures in Hollywood.

Man, looking at the women lined up on stage to pay tribute to JE kind of makes me misty-eyed. Not really. Maybe a little.

More pics from the tribute to Jeannie Epper. )

And to soothe the potential disappointment of no Zoë at the TWSA, I did a sweep of Getty images. Sorry for the watermark. From the 2003 Stunt Awards and other assorted events. Tarantino, you lucky bastard.
