Thus far I've no idea if Ms. Bell has been nominated for anything. I believe they are doing another private party again this year. I *wish* they would at the very least do a public release of the list of 2009 nominees.

Anyhow, here's the breakdown so far:

Screening of nominees for the 2009 Taurus World Stunt Awards - 03-24-2009
The deadline to vote for the 2009 Taurus World Stunt Awards - 03-27-2009

I'm guessing the awards could be happening any time soon?

BTW, TWSA has this in their 'legal details' section:

"The Taurus World Stunt Awards makes no guarantee that the awards show will happen, that it will be broadcast, or that any particular performer, performance submission or clip will be included in the show or broadcast thereof."

So I'm guessing televised, public viewing will be a rare thing for the awards. It's too bad some channel like Spike or MTV can't sponsor the shows.

IF ANYONE HAS ANY INFORMATION ON THE NOMINEES OR IF ZB HAS BEEN NOMINATED THIS YEAR, PLEASE LET US KNOW!

Thanks

Submissions for the 2009 Taurus World Stunt Awards deadline is this Friday, Jan 9. Will Ms. Zoë Bell be nominated for anything this year?

ETA:

TAURUS WORLD STUNT AWARDS SHOW POSTPONED TO 2010!

Dear Colleagues,

The Taurus World Stunt Awards television show will be postponed to 2010. With the current worldwide economic situation which also affects the film industry and the stunt community, it is not prudent to produce a show that requires so many resources to maintain the standard and quality of production we have delivered. so far.

The Taurus World Stunt Awards Foundation will continue to honor stunt professionals and now even increase the direct support of those who have been injured in the course of their work. The winners of the 2009 Taurus World Stunt Awards will be announced at a party held for them in May 2009.

Since they haven't updated their website, I'm wondering if they'll be announcing the winners?

Emmy nominations are out. I have...a lot to say about them, but not here.

Here are the nominations for Outstanding Stunt Coordination:

Chuck • Chuck Versus The Undercover Lover • NBC • From College Hill Pictures, Wonderland Sound and Vision in association with Warner Bros. Television
Merritt Yohnka, Stunt Coordinator

Criminal Minds • Tabula Rasa • CBS • ABC Studios and CBS Paramount Network Television
Tom Elliott, Stunt Coordinator

CSI: NY • Playing With Matches • CBS • CBS Paramount Network Television in association with Jerry Bruckheimer Television
Norman Howell, Stunt Coordinator

NCIS • Requiem • CBS • A Belisarius production in association with CBS Paramount Network Television
Diamond Farnsworth, Stunt Coordinator

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles • Gnothi Seauton • FOX • C2 Pictures in association with Warner Bros. Television
Joel Kramer, Stunt Coordinator

[Source]

Of note: Norman Howell did stunts in both Death Proof and Planet Terror.

Also of note: are there any female stunt coordinators for TV shows? I know they're pretty rare on the ground overall; I wonder if maybe there might be more opportunity in television than in movies for women to coordinate, especially if you end up working long-term on a show in which there are a lot of women who do stunts, i.e. Shauna Duggins. She was Jennifer Garner's double on Alias and now coordinates for Brothers & Sisters.

I also think it's interesting of the list that all of the shows are ones that don't primarily feature men doing stunts (as in a show like, say, The Unit). In fact, in Chuck and Terminator, you're more likely to find women doing the stunts. Encouraging?

Grindhouse - Best Overall Stunt by a Stunt Woman

High speed chase featuring a stunt woman on the hood of the car. Female driver reaches high speeds and receives hits from another car, only one shot shows a dummy on the hood. Once the stunt woman climbs back into the car, chase continues with a reverse 180, double car jump and hits tail end of car causing the other car to turn over.

Nominees: Zoe Bell, Tracy Keehn Dashnaw - WINNER

CONGRATULATIONS!

While I can understand not putting on a show due to the writer's strike, I do not understand why they have literally kept the public in the dark about it's nominees and now it seems, the winners of the awards. It's already the 18th and there is *nothing* available online in regard to who won. Fail, Taurus World Stunt Awards.

After all the publicity about stunt persons not getting their just kudos.
After a historical year in the making, SAG finally accepting stunt coordination into it's show.

They could have at least made an effort to keep the public in the know.

Fail.
Fail.

I hope they have a press release soon. This is beyond ridiculous. Especially in a year when our girl ZB would have shined.

And yes, this is *my* opinion. It does not however reflect the opinions of other members in this community.

From our friends at Film School Rejects: 10 Most Memorable Scenes of 2007.

#2: Although it happens almost three hours into Grindhouse, when I saw New Zealand stuntwoman Zoe Bell on the roof of a 1970 Dodge Challenger while Kurt Russell’s Stuntman Mike continually plows into the car at high speeds, I had really genuine shivers going down my spine and got startled right out of my seat. It’s not just the fact that Bell is doing all her own stunts, but it’s also because much of the scene is shot wide so you see every nuance and every bit of the danger that comes crashing down on these girls. The entire scene is gripping and to top it off Zoe Bell is so damn charming that when you’re finally able to breathe a sigh of relief it’s coupled with a collective chuckle.

And the 2007 Smashie Awards

At #3, Grindhouse.

Biggest Badass: Zoe Bell in “Death Proof”
...
Pinnacle of Ass-Kicking: In “Planet Terror,” Rose McGowan lets the bullets fly on an army of the undead using a leg-turned-machine-gun and all the stripper moves at her disposal. Meanwhile, in “Death Proof,” the ultimate Hollywood stuntwoman delivers one of the best car chases ever and an unlikely star cries like a little girl.

I never realized it, but if you watch the video that plays automatically on the World Stunt Awards' home page, you'll see some familiar faces--including a clip of Zoë and Monica Staggs winning for Kill Bill 2.

Our own Jeannie Epper will be receiving an honorary lifetime achievement award this year at the World Stunt Awards. Congratulations Jeannie!! The event takes place May 10, 2007. Stay tuned for broadcast dates.

Being that Jeannie and Zoë starred together in Double Dare, I'm expecting her to be there.

I wonder if Zoë will be nominated for anything this year?

"Zoe Bell, stunt double to Lucy Lawless as Xena and to Uma Thurman in Kill Bill 2 and recipient of the Taurus World Stunt Award for her work in that film, was awarded the South Pacific Pictures International Achievement in Film Award.

Bell earlier said that stunts were a science, despite the guts and bravado it took to pull them off."

"There's a lot more that goes into it. It's less about the rush and more about the skill involved in it and the profession. Every now and then you get a kick out of it, which is great."

Last night, even though I'd totally forgotten about it, I came across the broadcast of the recent Taurus World Stunt Awards on E!, yay!! :) They showed Zoe in the audience a LOT, and when Quentin Tarentino won his honorary Best Action Director thing, she was in the little video montage they played, talking about him and rehearsing/working on "Kill Bill". I also caught when Zoe and Monica Staggs won for Best Overall Stunt by a Woman or whatever; when they went up onstage, though, only Monica spoke!! :( Zoe stood by her side and just grinned...hmm.

E! might be re-airing these, not sure...

Did y'all know that the recent Taurus World Stunt Awards, where our Zoe picked up TWO awards (and was nominated for a third!), will be airing on the E! network next Thursday, a week from today? :) 8 pm EST!

Apparently there are pics at wireimage.com, but I can't seem to access them without signing up for a paid account, wtf?? :( Anyway, she was also nominated for "Catwoman," but didn't win in that category.

Here are some pics of Zoe & the Kill Bill team (Quentin Tarentino, Monica Staggs - who won jointly with Zoe, I think she was Darryl's double?, and Daryl Hannah) I managed to dig up, from worldstuntawards.com:

CONGRATULATIONS, ZOE!!! :D

Taken from [info]thirdprophecy in the [info]outsdhollywood community:

"I would strongly recommend this.

Ponderous Productions has had the pleasure of working with David Alvarado, one of Hollywood's helpful stuntmen. He brought a script to our attention, one that he had been working on for quite some time. I never got the chance to read it, but he told of how he had passed it through almost every producer he had ever worked with, but no one would take it seriously because, after all - he was just a stunt man. It's an unwritten social rule in Hollywood that writers are writers, editors are editors, etc. Directors have the ability to do whatever they want, as long as they play their cards right. Actors aren't real to anyone anymore, they're another species. Producers are just henchmen with Italian shoes. Someone, somewhere, somehow needs to help break down these barriers, and bringing more recognition to everyone that isn't ON the screen will make them real people to the public, and the call for fairness amongst the occupations will grow as well. Everything from Best Director of Photography to Best Grip deserves something. Anything.

Amanda"
