SuperGrrrl Adventure Comix Deadline Extended
After much discussion--and in response to the fact that we have received numerous queries but a grand total of two actual submissions--Jen and I have decided to extend the SuperGrrrl Adventure Comix #1 submissions deadline by two weeks, to July 14.
SuperGrrrl Adventure Comix is a multimedia second-gen riot grrrl-themed zine. We are looking forsubmissions of previously unpublished original fiction, nonfiction, poetry, black-and-white art, comic strips, interviews, articles, and reviews; from writers and artists of all ages, genders, and backgrounds.
We cannot pay contributors at this time, but we will happily give you contributor copies, random comic books, and our undying gratitude.
Please see below for guidelines (behind the cut), and feel free to forward this around or post it anywhere you'd consider appropriate.
Sincerely,
Rachel Edidin and Jen Vaughn, Editrices
GENERAL INFORMATION:
Email submissions to supergrrrlcomix(at)gmail(dot)com (see below for guidelines).
Submissions are read on a rolling basis.
GENERAL TEXT GUIDELINES: Please send all prose as .doc or .rtf files (NOT in the body of an email). We also prefer poetry in these formats but will make exceptions for pieces with complex visual formatting.
GENERAL IMAGE GUIDELINES: Please send all images (including comic strips) as .jpg or .pdf format files, at a resolution that won't crash our email (if your piece is accepted, we'll request a print-resolution file from you at that time). SuperGrrrl Adventure Comix is a 5.5"x8.5" black-and-white publication; we cannot accept submissions of color artwork or artwork that requires a larger scale to be appreciated.
FICTION: 1200 words or fewer (We will consider serializing longer stories only if they have clear chapter breaks). Genrefuck encouraged. Please put SUBMISSIONS - FICTION in the subject line.
CREATIVE NONFICTION: 1200 words or fewer (We will consider serializing longer pieces only if they have clear chapter breaks). Please put SUBMISSIONS - CNF in the subject line of your email.
POETRY: Three or fewer poems. Bear in mind that if your work is selected for publication, it will need to be formatted to fit 5.5"x8.5" pages. Please put SUBMISSIONS - POETRY in the subject line of your email.
COMIX: Single-page or smaller one-shot strips (we may accept larger pieces on a case-by-case basis--please query in advance. For serial strips, please see guidelines for columns.). Please putSUBMISSIONS - COMIX in the subject line of your email.
REVIEWS, INTERVIEWS, and ARTICLES: We require all of these to be queried ahead of time. If you are interesting in contributing a review, interview, or article, please send us an email with QUERY - REVIEW, QUERY - INTERVIEW, or QUERY - ARTICLE in the subject line.
COLUMNS: If you are interested in writing a regular column or feature, to run in multiple issues ofSuperGrrrl Adventure Comix, please start by sending us a query letter with a description of what you'd like to do, a summary of your experience (this isn't limited to previously published writers and artists, but we do need some kind of evidence that you can stick to regular deadlines) and at least one sample of your work. Please put QUERY - COLUMN in the subject line of your email.
