Hi everyone, I just joined because my husband is in basic training for the army, and I was wondering if anyone knows of any military based zines? I'm trying to get as much information about military life as possible, but i'm having trouble finding sources that deal with my interests. I guess i'm looking for something about 'alternative' military lifestyles. Any help that is provided will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Hi,

Are you guys on a base, or is he away at Basic Training while you're at home? I'm asking because if you're on a base, you could perhaps start a group/zine with other military wives.

If you're at home, and can't find anything like what you're asking about, perhaps this is a great opportunity for you to create what doesn't currently exist.

I'd try to find other people who share your interests/situation and NETWORK. Put up flyers in your area. Ask around. Maybe you can find some leads on the Web. Try these links:

http://directory.google.com/Top/Home/Family/Family_Resources_and_Support/Military_Families/
http://directory.google.com/Top/Society/Military/People/Spouses/

I hope this helps. I want to know how everything turns out. Good luck!

ack. i remember there being a few issues of a zine out last year by a woman here in virginia whose husband was in the military and i think they lived on a base too. but the title totally slips my mind, and i'm not sure if i still have the issue of slug & lettuce that reviewed it.

I think the zine is INdependent by kathleen, po box 15622, chesapeake, VA 23320. or email independent at cox dot net. her zine was subtitled "a zine for liberals who love someone in the military". she was married and "dependant" of the USMC.
