| call for submissions for new grrrrl/bitch/go fuck yrself kinda zine (x-posted) |
[16 Jul 2009|01:55pm] |
i'm nearing completion of the 10th issue of my perzine licking stars off ceilings and i've been thinking about a new project to work on as well as my perzine. basically, i want to create a compilation zine of writing by grrrls ... but with a certain "theme" or "motif" if you will.
the zine is going to be called "i knew a motherfucker like you and she said..." which is a line from a guns n roses song. the idea behind the zine is grrrls writing honestly, unabashedly, and unapolegtically about things that matter to us. i am most especially interested in that which is surpressed, labeled as "bad" or "hushhush"... i want a space where grrrls can write openly and honestly without fear of judgement and express all kinds of (sometimes contradictory) thoughts and feelings.
i am not interested in painting women as either "victim" "virgin" or "whore"... i am interested in showing how we are often all of these and manymany more and other things. i am not interested in painting women as anything, i just want a place where we can say the shit we aren't supposed to say or aren't allowed or encouraged to say.
topics might include: rocknroll, punkrock, music in general, sex, pleasure, relationships, violence, sexual violence, drug or alcohol use or abuse, masturbation, ambition, partying, anger, feelings about your body, ways to "riot" or fight back, feelings of grrrl solidarity or feelings of alienation, experiences of humiliation or being "made an example of", things that really matter to you, things that piss you off, experiences with your period, learning about sex: the things you wish you'd known back then, experiences with stds, birth control, reproductive choice, abortion: medical and/or "natural", experiences with work, dealing with grrrl jobs such as retail, service jobs, sex work of various kinds, or trying to "make it" in male dominated jobs or neither or both, mental "health" or "unhealth", or "gofuckyourself i AM healthy", experience with psychwards and that whole psych world, being called or considered crazy/hysterical/emotional/fucked up, living in a world that promotes girlhate, sexual harassment, pedophelia, times when people threatened you or fucked with you and how you felt and so on.
basically anything you really want to say, things that matter you, that you want to share with other grrrls but most importantly: things that you know you couldnt "get away" with just anywhere, but with a chorus of grrrrls and bitchs behind you it makes you feel better about it! thats the feel i want for this zine. not that we have to agree, just that we are making room to say shit that matters to us.
i'm open to all sorts of forms of writing, including poetry, rants, essay style, fiction, personal stories, erotica, reviews of shit you like or hate, and so on. anything you really want to say. be a MOTHERFUCKER about it.
my email address is: lickingstarsoffceilings@hotmail.com
send any submissions to my email including any info (name, contacts, your zine(s), or whatever else you want included with your piece) to my email. and dont be afraid to ask me any questions.

"Because where we are we won't always be & shit man, that could be me - getting hurt, hurting someone, getting all crashed down upon - burning holes in butterfly's wings while wishing, just wishing for other things"
It's been three years in the making, but it's finally done! Sleeps With Ghosts #1 is a collection of thoughts, images, and poems spanning my life since 2006, shortly after returning from Kenya. It deals with trying to get out there in the world and figuring out how to make life live-able, falling down and getting back up again. I like a full-looking zine, so as a result my zines are usually full to the brim of text and pictures, and this is no exception.
This zine is $3+S&H or trade The first printing is about halfway gone already, but there will be more, so please email me if interested! sleepswthghosts[at]yahoo[dot]ca

BRUCE SPRINGSTZINE 1: WEEKEND IN THE VOID takes place in Toronto, on Canzine weekend last October. I flew in from Vancouver, and had exactly 36 hours from touchdown to takeoff again. What follows is a detailed report on that day and a half of sleep deprivation, self-abuse and small pressery. Sometimes vague and deranged, sometimes lucidly hung over, this is an honest report, complete with hand written field notes, of what happens when a writer (Joey Comeau) and a publisher (myself) attempt to stay up for 36 hours, fueled mainly on energy drinks, little orange pills, and pharmaceutical grade tequila. ( Read more... )
While you're at it, visit Loose Teeth, and check out the other zines and books we've put out.

| Flat Rate Envelope of Zines! |
[14 Jul 2009|05:56pm] |
WOW~! Thanks so much, all of the the zines have found homes!!
I have a wonderful zine collection that I need to downsize. I recently moved into a smaller home and I just don't have the extra space to store these zines any longer.
Each flat rate Priority Mail envelope contains between 20 - 30 zines. If you would like to pay the postage to have one of these stuffed envelopes sent to a zine library of your choice then that would be wonderful also. I just want to find these zines a good home.
I have around 5 of these envelopes available. I am asking $5 within the US but I will definitely ship out of the states, just let me know where you are and I can give you a shipping rate. Let me know if you have any questions.
If you are interested then send me an e-mail and I will forward you my Pay Pal info~ thanks~

Hi, I have a box containing 19 zines that I'd like to donate to a zine library, and I am willing to send the zines to the choice of the first person to reply to this post (so then I am not donating to the same places all the time). I don't care if it's a public or private zine library, but I can only afford to send it someplace in the U.S. So that everyone knows I picked the first person to reply, I will only count the first reply to THIS message. Oh, and please make sure to let me know the address of the library.

Dear Free Spirit,
I'm trying to reply to your request for a zine trade for one of my Twilight World for yours. Unfortunatley, since your account is 'friends only', it won't send it. So you PM your mailing address and I'll send you mine.
Thanks for the interest, Don-O

Hi!! This is my first post to this community. I've been reading for a while and love it.
I'm working on my first real-actually-gonna-do-it-this-time zine type project, and I have no idea what to charge for it. I recently graduated from an awesome alternative school called Upattinas where basically all I did was sit in the art room and make art all day, including visual journals. The last one I made was based in dream work; I recorded all my dreams after waking up and made a page about each dream.
So! I had several friends express interest in buying this book from me but I definitely wasn;'t going to give it up, so I'm working on making a reproduction on it. It's slightly smaller than half size, since I started with an odd sized book, in full color, and made with high quality copies. None of it has been printed off a computer - it's all been copied at Kinkos on their color copier. It's 19 pages long plus a color cover.
How much would you expect to pay for a zine like this? It's slightly unorthodox so I haven't really found anything to compare it with. I'd like to find other people who would be interested in it, as well, through this community and other places.

Sorry if this post is a problem for any one or the moderators, if so, just delete it. Thanks :]
Alright, folks, I know I don't update this very often, but I'm coming to you guys with a plea for help.
As some of you know, I recently traveled up to Philadelphia, PA, and opened up a squat with a few friends. Currently, we're on our second month not-so-"legally" occupying the house. There are four humans and 2 dogs, all of whom are broke and unemployed. It's quite fun! We ride our bikes, do construction work on the space, and volunteer with various organizations. For example, tomorrow I start my first day working with the StopMax campaign, writing letters of solidarity to prisoners trapped with in america's injustice system.
I'm also still working on a few (ah!) zines, which is where the problem comes in: Recently, a friend and I hitched from Philadelphia up to Brattleboro, VT for Next Level Shit Day, which was essentially a day long gathering of folks for music, parades, free foods, and box car parties. We wanted a period of sharing hope, ideas, support, and acting out how our day-to-day lives can be if anarchy actually becomes our reality.
While at a show, I picked up my pack to head outside, forgetting I had left my craft bag sitting on top. I've had this craft bag for three years, and included all of my zine-making materials: glue sticks, rubber cement, scissors, x-acto knives, etc. & I lost it. Of course I'm bummed, as alot of things in the bag had various amounts of nostalgic value, but also, now I'm kind of held back from working on any of my projects, especially my zines.
Like I said before, I live mostly for free... no stable employment, and I generally try to create things like bags and notebooks to sell. I scrounge change from couches in coffee shops and book stores in order to make copies of my zines and afford stamps. I dont really have money to afford any materials.
So here's what I'm asking: If anyone has extra scissors, glue, or any sort of craft stuff lying around and would like to donate them to the "Help Bernard Complete Her Zine Fund," I would be extremely grateful. In exchange, I can send stamps, various zines, and patches, along with a copy of all the zines your contribution would help me finish.
Let's put Mutual Aid in to Action! Email me at trollgirlcentral@gmail.com or comment here if you would like to help me out!
Thanks, Love, & Solidarity- bernard?

♥ HAPPY INTERNATIONAL ZINE MONTH! ♥ In celebration of the first International Zine Month, July 2009, I have lowered the prices on all zines in my Etsy shop to $1. Neat!
Little Acorns is my contribution to the 24-Hour Zine Thing. From start to finish, first little bangs on the typewriter keys to a trip to the photocopy shop, this zine was completed within a 24-hour time period.

I just got copies of List #13

List #13 is, for lack of better terms, the break up issue. it's about dealing with a lost love in a new city while trying to figure out how to call it home. from the intro: "...so this issue is the good, the bad, and the random. it's heartbreak, loneliness, change, new beginnings, moving on while still holding on to the ounce of hope that he'll be overcome by some movie-like revelation and realize that we're meant to be. and of course, it's lots of rover, my dog and faithful sidekick, the one constant in my life that i know will be there for me..."
prepare to be bummed out but hopefully also a little entertained. it's a whopping 66 half-sized pages, with light purple cardstock covers. this issue only contains ramsey's lists and guestlists. the found list section had to be cut due to too many pages! list zine is filled only with autobiographical lists and illustrations to go with them!
examples of lists from this issue are: things that weren't part of the plan, (or how moving to chicago gave me bad luck), darby the dog, weird things about public transit, things i could do to get out of here, things i've always wanted to do, things i've never wanted to do, and many more.
list #13 is $3 or $4. I'd like to charge $4 consistently, since it's thick, but I feel guilty about it. So sliding scale is fine. haha. you can paypal to everydaypants@gmail.com or comment or e-mail the same e-mail address to find out how to send cash via the mail. ( examples pages! )

| Freehand #3 submissions |
[01 Jul 2009|10:49am] |
I just extended the deadline for submissions for my litzine, Freehand. It was originally today, but I extended it another month to July 31, 2009.
I'm looking for stories and poems about anything. The last two issues I had a theme going ("New beginnings" and "A flight of fancy", respectively), but I'm trying out NOT having a theme.
If you're interested, check out the submissions page! Thanks!

[01 Jul 2009|09:51am] |
I have 5 grab bags to offer for postage costs. I have packed 5 U.S. Postal Service flat-rate envelopes with zines. All of these grab bags just contain of hodgepodge of zines. Titles will be provided upon request. They all contain at least 9 zines. I regret to inform that I cannot accept PayPal; I can only take U.S. cash, American postage (unused), a money order, or some combination thereof. I am willing to show a measure of trust and ship after receiving half payment, because I realize that without using PayPal, people would have to trust me. I am willing to pay for tracking. Postage rates: $4.80 U.S. $9.95 Canada/Mexico $11.95 elsewhere

| Calling all geeks and Golden Girls fans! |
[30 Jun 2009|04:00am] |
A friend of mine and myself recently finished the first (and possibly only) issue of our new zine, "Miami, You've Got Style!" The concept behind it is that we took screen captures of every outfit worn during the first season of Golden Girls and wrote commentary on them. But it turns out that it is really hard to write specific commentary on that number of outfits, so a lot of them are us talking about Lord of the Rings or Star Trek. You can find out more about it at our website, http://miamiyouvegotstyle.com/ where we also provide you with a sample of the first three episodes worth of material.
If you like what you see but don't want to pay for shipping, we will be selling copies at Portland Zine Symposium in July.
Enjoy!
