Frequently Asked Questions
More questions will be added if necessary.

What is this exchange thingie?
Make goodies for and receive goodies from fellow fans of the Legend of Zelda. Think secret santa except you have more control over the gift you want to receive or give. This is a multimedia gift exchange community.

Who can join?
This community is open to any LJ user. People who are interested in any or all of the games from the Legend of Zelda series and who want to stretch their creativity muscle while bringing joy to someone else at the same time are welcome to join.

How to join?
Join and watch the community so you can gain posting access as well as receive community-only messages and notices regarding the exchange. Fill out the sign up sheet and send it to us.

We also have a Deviant Art club, but it is optional. Those who are interested in joining the club, just contact one of the mods about joining the club and remember to watch the club.

If you want to participate in the exchange, you must join this community, but you do not need to be a member of DA or the DA club.

How does this work?
When the exchange is open for sign up, you have a limited amount of time to submit your sign up sheet (via email or the LJ). Based on what you have written on your sign up sheet, we pair you and your request up with another person. Once you receive your assignment, you are given one month to complete the request and send it to the moderator. During display week, you reveal your gift to your person at the community LJ as well as see others presenting their gifts.

What kind of gifts is accepted?
Fanarts for the first round.

Because of interests expressed by the members of the community, starting round 2 this community will be a multimedia exchange. This including art (2-D, 3-D, cg, traditional media, comics, pin ups, pixel art, crafts, etc), writing (prose long and short, stories, poems, essay, critical writing, reviews, etc), music (sheet music, original composition, remix, etc.), graphics, image manipulations (icons, LJ-friendly banners and icons, wallpaper, webpage design/layout, etc). Specs for each medium can be found in rules and guidelines.

*7/3/07 - icons are now included for round 1 as a subcategory.
*8/24/07 - all media will be accepted starting round 2
*11/1/07 - listed acceptable examples for each medium.

What about adult-oriented/themed materials?
For those who are interested in creating/receiving more mature-themed gifts (rated R or above), you are welcome to request them, and, like any other request, we will try our best to pair your request up with the appropriate person. Please restrict to one adult-oriented request per round as a courtesy to the person who might be making your gift as well as to increase the chance of us finding someone who can fulfill your request.

While we are not against anyone receiving/giving adult-themed gifts, we do request that you post them in a friends-locked post during display week. This is to prevent others not involved in the community from “accidentally” finding such material which might be offensive to them. A good rule of thumb is anything above an R rating should be friends-locked.

*11/1/07 - added a more detailed answer for this question.

How to post your gift in the community LJ during display week?
Use this form and don’t forget to LJ-cut images.

Where are the forms?
http://community.livejournal.com/zelda_exchange/1108.html

Who are the moderators and how do I contact them?
[info]cyen and [info]okiayu are the mods. You can contact them here (comments will be screened) or email (zelda_exchangeCATstudiocyenDOGnet, replace "CAT" and "DOG" with the appropriate symbols).

Ah, forgot a question:
Is SSBM included? Because in that case, I'd add it to my list up there. ^^;

Welcome to the group and thank you for signing up! Ooops, I forgot to add SSBM. Yes, it is included, and thank you for reminding me. I'll add that to the form right now.

Any objections to non-artists joining? I can't draw for toffee, but might try my hand at fanfiction if the community expands into that.

Oops, sorry about not seeing this post earlier, but sure, non-arists are welcome to join. I'm seriously considering opening up the exchange to fanfics later so thank you for letting me know your interest. :)

This is such a great idea. :) I'm going to join for now, but seeing as how I cannot draw worth a darn, I'll wait by the wayside until fanfiction gets opened. :)

I just joined, so I'm still getting used to the rules here...

I had a question. This gift exchange... can we give someone a picture we've already drawn? Because I've drawn several Zelda fanart. Could I exchange a picture I've drawn or do I have to draw up an entirely new picture?

Oh wow, sorry for the super slow reply, but I didn't notice your question until I checked this entry today.

To answer your question, the gift you give in the exchange needs to drawn specifically for the exchange. There are exceptions to this (i.e. icons, but you still need to make some new ones).

Hiya,

I just joined as of maybe 10 minutes ago. Being a writer, I sorta need a beta and am fresh out of people willing to do that task for me. Since it's a requirement, I was wondering if maybe anyone'd be willing to assist me there?

I'm looking forward to participating and thanks for everyone's time. :)

Thanks for signing up!! There are quite a few people in the group who will be happy to be a beta reader. You can post your request for a beta reader in the community. :)
