Book Review: Shelf Monkey
Title: Shelf Monkey
Author: Corey Redekop (Shelf Monkey blog)
Publisher: ECW Press
If Dave Eggers and Chuck Palahniuk were to molest Max Barry in some way, he probably would have produced a novel similar to Shelf Monkey.
Fortunately, that mental image is fading quickly and Corey Redekop wacked me over the head with the novel instead of forcing other authors to torture their own to produce something akin to Shelf Monkeys. Yeah, sure, it would be fun to watch but really... he (Max) has a new baby and she needs to eat. Just leave him alone...
Take X Book company (similar to McNally Robinson and/or Chapters)
Take slightly fanatic and perhaps unstable people, populate the store liberally
Take customers, mix
Take cult-like following to a TV show host's book club, pour
Bake at 451 until everything settles...
Let loose the hamsters of war and watch the chaos that ensues.
8.5/10
Yeah, this was the first book I read after getting home BEC. I loved it. I will recommend it to people who come into the store.
