ALC Publishing, the world's only publisher of 100% Yuri, and Lambda Literary and Ben
Franklin award finalist, lesbian novelist J.D. Glass, are teaming up for the upcoming
"Yuri Monogatari 6" Anthology.
J.D. Glass, author of "Punk Like Me," "Punk and Zen," and "Red Light" is pleased to
announce that "Yuri Monogatari 6" will include a side story featuring characters
from her novel "American Goth."
"Yuri Monogatari 6," the newest book in ALC's award-nominated anthology series,
also welcomes back Japanese doujinshi circle UKOZ and features the return
of Eriko Tadeno (WORKS), Rica Takashima (Rica 'tte Kanji!?), and Althea Keaton.

There is a certain amount of jingoism involved in any niche interest; technical terms, fan slang, nicknames, cultural terms, etc. In the case of Yuri manga and anime, we also have a load of Japanese terms to deal with. And, as my readers know, I have coined some specific shorthand terms of my own.
So, to provide a topic of discussion, a reference for future posts and a way of avoiding having to answer "what does xyz mean?" questions over and over, I've pulled out an old glossary we did for Onna! in 2005, updated and adapted it on Okazu.

ALC Publishing is recruiting for the 6th "Yuri Monogatari" Project!
ALC Publishing, the world's only all-Yuri publisher, is recruiting writers
and artists for their award-nominated Yuri anthology, "Yuri Monogatari."
Writers and artists who wish to be considered for the new anthology should read

carefully before sending any materials. Questions can be emailed to

Due to the time constraints of the project, no applications can be accepted

ALC Publishing will be on hand at Jim Hanley's Universe in New York City
on January 16th at 6:30 PM as part of Prism Comics night. The cast will include
authors JD Glass and Abby Denson.
JHU is located at 4 West 33rd St. on 5th Avenue, just across from the
Empire State Building.
If you are in the NYC area or can get there for the event, I'd love to
see you. I'll be signing books and, I assume, chit-chatting with the
madding crowd.

| Original Yuri Manga Query |

Hi comm,
I hope no one minds me posting my query here, if so, please delete.
I am working on my first yuri manga. I've been writing yaoi for about a year now. But what I'm noticing, unfortunately, is that while the market for original yaoi manga was slim at best, the market for original yuri manga seems all but non-existent. I am developing a full-on series and have plotted out the first arc; my partner is currently penciling the first chapter.
ALC seems like the only game in town, and even they only seem interested in 20 page one shots for submission to their annual anthology.
My question is will that ever change? I do not wish to go back to self-publishing (did it for years!) but neither do I wish to condense a serial manga for which an entire story arc has already been planned into one 20 page story. That would be impossible.
Any info would be most greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

A couple of news items of interest that I wanted to throw your way today!
Eriko Tadeno, author/artist of the collection Works, and contributor to Yuri Monogatari 5, has been interviewed by Polish magazine "Komikz." Thanks to Sylwia for the link! This review is in Polish, so don't be surprised.
Dedicated reader and Yuri fan Eric P points out that Love My Life, the live action movie based upon the Yuri manga of the same name by Yamaji Ebine, (here's my review of the movie) has been starting to pop up at Gay/Lesbian/Bi/Trans Film Festivals in North America. It's already been screened in Tampa and at Outfest. ANN Previously reported that Wolfe Video licensed it, so keep an eye out for a North American release.
Download the new Yuricon toolbar! In the never-ending quest to provide both good information and a lively community, I have developed a Yuricon toolbar which is now available for download at: http://yuricon.communitytoolbars.com/. There are toolbar versions for M$IE and Firefox as of this point. The toolbar includes a search box, messaging, an Okazu headline ticker and a Yuricon Chat. (I've been looking to do a chat for some time and this seemed like an interesting experiment.) The rules of the chat are the same as those on the Yuricon Mailing List.
The search box utilizes the custom Yuri search engine I built - which is also located on the Yuricon Site Map, so the results will be very anime/manga-centric. You can also search for reusults within the Yuricon site, as well.
Feel free to download and play around with it - tell friends who are interested in Yuri and want to chat, send messages or just search for Yuri online. :-)
And thanks to eagle-eyed Erin S. for pointing out that a Spanish scanlation group has received permission from Rica Takashima to scanlate Rica 'tte Kanji!? in Spanish. I know that Yuri has a huge Spanish-speaking following, so cool for them! :-) And thanks to Erin for the news!

Yuricon & ALC Publishing, in the usual form of me and my minion(s), will be making an appearance tomorrow, Saturday October 6 at MangaNEXT in Secaucus, NJ.
I and brilliant fanfic writer Adam Jones will be discussing Fanfiction at the unholy hour of 10AM in the Fanfiction Panel.
After that, we will be relaxing in the Artist's Alley, where will not only have Yuri Monogatari 5 for sale, but also a nice selection of original and parody doujinshi, including some very awesome work by UKOZ, Sakuraike and Office Mono, Tadeno Eriko's circle. All five artists are featured in Yuri Monogatari 5 and all are genuinely exceptional. (Or I wouldn't have their doujinshi for sale, would I? lol)
At 5PM, join us for the Yuri Panel, where we will be discussing some of the good, bad and ugly (but mostly the good) Yuri manga available in English and Japanese!
MangaNEXT is the only manga-focused event in the US and it's run by a terrific group of folks, so drop by and support them (and us!) See you there!

| Countdown to Yuricon's 2007 "Yurisai" Event |

There are just about ten (10!) days left for Pre-registration to Yuricon's 2007 "Yurisai" event.
I just boxed up all the manga I'll be bringing for the Yuri Library...it's a lot of manga...and even more doujinshi. Some of it has never before been seen in America, some of it will be stuff that you will never see again. (That's not meant to sound as ominous as it does....lol)
And time is also counting down on the Yurisai" Poster and Fanfiction Contests. Our theme is, quite naturally, "Fairs and Festivals". We know that you'll have a great time out our Festival of Lilies, and we want to see your artwork and stories showing our mascots Yuriko and Midori enjoying fairs and festivals too. Ferris Wheels or goldfish scooping, running with the bulls or watching fireworks over a lake - you decide the festival and show or tell us all about it. Check out the submission deadlines on the Yurisai home page.
Get those entries in before the September 7 deadline and we'll see you at the "Yurisai in 33 days!
