deep in a wood, where nothing in seen
Who: Sarah, Aria, Cameron, Aradia, Sky, Oliver, Caroline, etc.
Where: Caroline's house, Palisades, California
When: August 16, 20XX - afternoon
What: Training, watching you, watching me

Cameron was driving, with Aria in the back seat and Sarah in shotgun. Now that Caroline was settling down for birth and the communication system with Level EEE was still going strong, they no longer had to go down to tunnels for Sarah's training. Which seemed to provide more motivation - Sarah wasn't as reluctant to train as she used to be.

The boys had departed to train as well - the Bone Healer had cleared Derek from any kind of break or fracture, but ordered him to stay on the sideline; no more training with Ronon. Derek had only grumbled obscenities but obeyed, knowing with two units knocking around near Caroline's place with more on the way as forecasted by Rose that he had to stay ready. He still continued weapons training and lighter physical training that he could do himself. John was once again going up against Ronon, Rowan taking turns with the Satedan to keep him on his heels.

As they drew near the Palisades Aria made sure they wouldn't attract attention to the two units that were still up, waiting, in the foothills near the sea.

Finally pulling up into the driveway, through the barrier that was only slowly and shallowly pulled aside so they could edge in, Sky looking like a fierce thing sitting on the roof, watching.

The scans and closing of the barrier took a few minutes, but everything turned out to be fine. Sky looked tired.

"We're taking turns watching", she yawned, unlocking the door, Cameron noting that the houses for Reki and Caroline were almost connected, like one big house. It made guarding them easier, less location in case of having to go underground, but at the same time, knowing they were a target wasn't a comfort either.

Cameron nodded, watching Oliver go up to deck for his place on the roof after slathering himself with sunscreen. Knowing that they were prowling around and it was just watching, waiting. At least they had backup. She'd watched them do this so many times before.

"You should sleep." She looked at Sky, who grinned crookedly - when doing that, her biological connection to the Twins was more pronounced than ever.

"I'll be taking you up on that."

The beat of Aradia's little legs resounding through the hall. She was glaring up at Sarah. "You're late." That stern little face, two little hands tugging at one of Sarah's.

Sarah had managed to keep her face straight and look like the warrior woman she was meant to be for the drive over and while they exchanged pleasantries. She was Sarah Connor after all, she was meant to be stern and alert at all times. She couldn't help herself, though, when she saw Aradia and her chubby little cheeks and her high, off-put voice. She laughed, a maternal smile crossing her lips as she let Aradia tug at her hand.

'I wasn't the one driving,' she said, passing a glance at Cameron.

Aradia pouted, her lower lip sticking out. She looked at Cameron, her brow narrowing and cheeks puffing out. 'She's not meant to be late!'

'It's okay,' Sarah said, stroking Aradia's soft hair. She sounded like John when he was her age. 'I'm here now. So I guess you want to teach me, then?'

'Old dogs and new tricks and all that,' Sky snickered, quieting when Sarah shot her a look.

Aria just shook her head.

"You've been spending too much time around your cousins."

"Don't I know it." She looked at Sarah, blushing a little apologetically. "Sorry."

Aradia just looked like she was about to start yelling, but Cameron just pushed gently between her shoulders. "I'll try not to be late again." She apologized, "So please teach Sarah."

The little girl looked pleased with that. Aria walked with them as Sky went off next door to get a shower and a nap.

"How's Antoinette?" Aria's hand was warm on the girl's head.

Aradia scowled. "Napping. I keep forgetting that she's not Awake yet, so she has to sleep more."

"You're still young yourself. You know the Twins'll be dragging you off for a nap after you're finished here." Cameron's smile was gentle but natural.

They passed Caroline in the hall, yawning as she'd just woken up from her own nap.

"I'll be in the office here. Jen said you had the results of your scan?" She looked at Aria as they squeezed through, and she nodded. But Aradia stopped moving the moment her eyes naturally skimmed by Caroline's belly. Her eyes widened, slipping into their sunshine shade, and she shook her head.

"No, no that can't be right." She held onto Caroline hard, her face pressed up against where the baby was. "No."

Cameron looked down at her, then looked at Sarah, whose eyes were also glowing violently, eyes also locked onto Caroline's belly

"What?"

"Something wrong with the baby?" Caroline looked anxious. Aradia was shaking her head.

"The metal things. They're coming when Angelica comes out of you. During. Three days from now."

The Twins had their ears pitched to hear their Pup's scared little voice.

"Get Rose on the phone, now. We need to get this confirmed." Aria growled, not pleased. It wasn't the little girl's fault, not in the least. At least they had a better idea now of when to strike.

She noticed that Sarah was holding onto Aradia as well, her eyes starting to dim, looking sad.

"Should we abort training today?" Cameron looked at Aria sidelong, little more than a murmur.

Aradia's voice was little more than a whisper. "No. Just need to calm down." Her voice was a little deeper now. "We have data to work with, don't let it go to waste."

She felt useless- how hadn't she Seen it? She was older than this girl and it was her job, her goddamn role in life, her only reason for being to protect John from the metal. Sure, Caroline wasn't her son, and sure she couldn't be doing it all the time, but all she seemed to get was mixed up messages that she constantly misread.

Feeling Ishtar twist about in the back of her head, feeling offput, too, Sarah shook her head.

'No, we should prepare and make plans,' she said, walking away from the group. 'This is more important.'

'Your training is important,' Aradia said, her voice small.

Sarah continued walking away, though, following Caroline. 'This is more important,' she stressed.

Cameron looked at Sarah as the Twins were notifying the senior staff.

"She's very attached to Angelica and Antoinette in the future, which is why she saw it first. She's been living here with both for a bit now." She looked down at Aradia, who was sitting down and calming down. "It's not about who Saw it first. It's good she was here." Her eyes turned hard. "But even if she's little, she's right. Sarah, you have to train today. You won't be out of the negotiations if you do. You know that. You can do both."

She paused, watching Aurora going to get Sky.

"All of us will. It's not just you. I strongly suggest you train today while you can. She might have given the initial report, but you can build on it. You're John's mother. You're more connected to him. Try looking for answers with that. You'll find something she won't."

Aria came back inside after telling Oliver, heard the last part of what Cameron had said.

"She's right. All of this Sight with you two seems to work with who you know, who you're more connected to. I'd give it a try, if anything."

Sarah whipped around. Her eyes were cold, angry, her lips pursed as she crossed over to Aria. Ishtar was buzzing about in the back of her mind, begging for control, just for a moment. It was tough to fight her back, though her eyes continued to flash dangerously.

Edging up to Aria, she eyed her for a long beat before turning to Aradia.

'I don't want to train today,' she said simply, though Ishtar marked her voice, as though daring for her, or anyone else, to dispute it.

Turning back around, her eyes drifting over Aria, she marched off. Aradia stared at her, her tiny fingers wrapped around the hem of her shirt.

'I think we should just let her go,' she said quietly.

She looked at the little girl.

"Let's give her a bit." She agreed, taking her hand and leading her into the room. Cameron looked reluctant but she just frowned, went to go join the Twins to keep everyone in the loop.

"I don't like her being mad." She admitted, "I feel like I messed up because I Saw first."

"No, it's a good thing you did. Sarah's just.." She looked for the right words. "Imagine being a mother. Imagine having to sacrifice all of your life to make sure you're ahead of the threat of your only child and the one that will save the world."

Aradia sat with her on the deck, feeling fresh breezes. Cuddling into her lap, Aria's arm going around that little body so naturally she didn't even notice.

"She's angry because this is her job." She said after a moment, nodding, suddenly understanding. "She wants to protect but feels frustrated."

"Exactly. Just give her a bit until she calms down and we have a plan down. She's not mad at you. She's mad at herself." Aria clarified, feeling that chubby little cheek press into her breast.

They listened to the waves, hearing Sarah clamber up where Oliver was on the roof, watching.

"But she's not alone anymore." Aradia's heart had slowed, she was clearly calming down.

"No. But we have to keep reminding her that." Aria looked down at her and grinned. "It's hard for her to trust so many people."

"Because you were like her. Alone."

"Yep."

"And she's afraid of failure."

"You see why we fight so much now, don't you?" She chuckled.

Oliver passed Sarah the lenses at her request, the enhanced binoculars clearly showing movement. He was a quiet guy, didn't talk much, which made him perfect to weather Sarah's temper at the moment. He didn't try to reassure her, just kept his post.

"They just keep circling in the same area." He sighed, rubbing his eyes. "From what we can tell, they're not the new model B for the triple eights. Then again, that'll only be confirmed in close range."

Sarah was silent as she watched the figures in the distance. She wasn't sure if they'd spotted them yet, or if they were even aware that more people were at the house than usual. Handing Oliver back the binoculars, she sat down on the hard roof, her knees drawn to her chin.

'Do you usually keep watch?' she finally asked.

Oliver shrugged. 'I don't mind it. I'm a lot more patient than the rest. In the future...'

Sarah tilted her head when she drifted off. She waited, not sure if he needed prompting. He cleared his throat, though, and continued on his own.

'John calls me The Watcher. I wasn't sure if it was a compliment at first but I can see why he chose it. I'm just a patient sort of guy. It's in my nature.'

She nodded, tucking a leg under her. Oliver's presence was soothing and she felt Ishtar calm down. She'd been in a mood all day and it had started to get to Sarah, too. She wouldn't say what was bothering her but Sarah guessed she'd tell her in time, especially if it was something that was going to effect both of them.

"They can't see us up here." He said after awhile, passing the binoculars back and forth. "As we've been learning from chip extractions, the model-As can only see so far. But when you pull the wool over their eyes, they see much less. They tend to leave one while the other goes out come nightfall. That's when we take the chance to reinforce security. Since the Twins came with Caroline and their pup, though, it's been easier to stay cloaked. Shadows and all that. Especially during upgrades at night."

He could tell there was something bothering her aside from the previous fight for who Saw what first, but once more, he was quiet, didn't ask. If she had something to say, she'd say it in due time. His sister was similar that way.

Even though he, his sister, and the Twins had all trained together for many years as children, he was much like John in that he was reluctant to step up to the War. So scouting soothed him. He didn't mind taking down the tin cans - it was the Infiltrators and other human or half-human Skynet agents that bothered him. So if he could, he preferred to stay quiet, always watching, only acting if he had to.

He knew Ishtar was in her - that, among the Inner Circle, was no secret. But he wondered what was going on. He kept the thought to himself, behind his own mental wall. He was concerned. John acted the same way when he was troubled inside - pacing around him quietly as they watched.

It took a little longer for the data streams to get up and running this time after strengthening security, but within an hour of the initial report, they were online and talking to those down in the Tunnels.

Rose sat there, looking exhausted.

"The little one's right - three days from when Caroline starts the birthing process, the tin cans in her area will mount their strike." She thanked Ronon, who'd handed her tea. He too, along with John, had been called in.

"Reinforcements?" Aria looked at Sky, and she shook her head.

"Not on this end. And they're usually not too good with espionage."

"Unless they have an Infiltrator on board as well." Rowan's voice was offscreen, still tinkering around with wires.

"...Who we already took out." Miharu finished.

Sarah had gone about making lunch. She had left a few sandwiches- a variety of salads and cold meats- in the kitchen for the rest of the group. She went back upstairs to the roof, Oliver's presence soothing Ishtar who was still scowling. She'd gone and locked herself up in the back of her mind, just a numbness where that wall was.

Sitting down under the umbrella Oliver had put up as the sun rose high in the sky, Sarah tucked a leg underneath her. Offering some of the sandwiches to Oliver, who took one with a smile, Sarah nibbled on hers as she looked out to where the terminators had been. They'd since moved and Oliver was looking about, trying to find them again.

'She's upset about something,' Sarah finaly said when she was certain Ishtar was in her own little world and couldn't hear.

'Mm?' Oliver tilted his head but kept looking out over the horizon, trying to find the metal.

'Mm.' She nodded and took another bite of her sandwich. Ishtar had been upset all day about something but she wouldn't tell Sarah what. Then again, she probably didn't know herself. It was like when Sarah was about to See the terminator attack at the diner. A growing, gnawing feeling that she couldn't place.

'What about a new one?' Rose suggested.

Miharu frowned, looking at her. 'Is it possible?'

'I only read timelines,' Rose said patiently. 'I can't predict the future. Depending... there's no reason why they couldn't be another one. A second in command.'

"She's upset." He repeated, mulling it over, munching on his sandwich. "She'll tell you when she feels the time is right." He glanced at Sarah as she handed him the binoculars, "But, pardon the advice, "if it gets down to the line and she's still not saying anything, I'd ask her. I don't know much about host-souls, so I won't pretend to know what's going on in you. That's just advice from me to you."

The way he said it was gentle, concerned, humble, but not smothering.

"The future John is much the same as you." He allowed himself a small smile. "Especially when Adam is keeping something from him. He'd always come to me and watch and after a bit, all would be revealed." He rested the binoculars on his knee, gently fiddling with its enhancements to see if he could boost its visual range just a bit more. "He tried to rabbit a few times when the tension was too much for him but then he figured out it was just safer for everyone if he paced and cursed." He smiled in memory, then lifted the binoculars back to his eyes. "Much better. Rowan and Harry are geniuses." He handed her the equipment again. "There, the view should be crystal clear by now. They're back in range now."

Sarah took them and he ate his sandwich happily.

"I only hope that she shares her thoughts with you soon." He said sincerely, his eyes cast out over the foothills.

"Not from what we've been seeing around here." Sky said, looking frustrated. No binary noise, either. Even with the enhancements in various places to augment our Hearing up here. It's possible and if anything, we should over-prepare."

"That much I think we can agree on." Derek was pacing. "Over-preparing has never been a problem for us. We have three days from now, so we'll get to work after the plan gets smoothed out."

"They were quiet a moment as everyone thought."

"Do they usually put Infiltrators in command?" Ronon asked, interested, trying to find some scrap of his own experience that might help this time. He'd grown attached to these people, and he found himself wanting to help.

"It tends to vary by mission." Karen was gently rubbing Miharu's shoulders, trying to get her to calm down. "But when being sent back, if it's what Skynet deems an important mission - "

"Like establishing bases." Cameron clarified from onscreen, "or capturing territory early - "

"They send the Infiltrator first, and only after they've been considered faithful after multiple tests and missions. They program them first, then their unit. They're less damage incurred to the Infiltrator as they're human and can heal, so they're considered a more precious commodity when compared to their underlings."

Ronon stopped pacing and sat, forehead in his hands, thinking, thinking about the Wraith and other enemy armies that were on Sateda before it was gone.

Letting out a soft hum, Sarah looked over to where the two terminators were. They appeared to be talking about something but she wasn't a lip reader and she guessed it would all be terminator-type jargon. Maybe they should go and send Cameron for some kind of recon.

Lowering the bincoulars- they didn't seem to be doing anything spectaularly interesting- she looked over at Oliver. He was sitting a few feet away, turned to where the metal was, nibbling on his sandwich. He had pulled the tomatoes from them and they were balancing on his knee. He'd take a bite of the sandwich, then a bit from the tomatoes. Sarah frowned, wondering if this was just a habit or a full-out compulsion.

'I've asked and she won't tell me,' she finally said. 'I think she might be Seeing something soon. It's the same feeling I got before I Saw the attack.'

'That why you don't want to train today?'

Sarah shrugged, still unsure of that herself.

Jen gently rubbed Ronon's back. This wasn't her area of expertise, no matter how much she would want it to be. She was a doctor, not a soldier.

With a sigh, Rose rubbed her temples. She was murmuring about timelines, her eyes glowing faintly gold as the Bad Wolf stirred inside her. Biting her lower lip, Jen reached forward, patting her on the knee. Glancing over at the screen, she saw Aria's weary face, contrasted to Cameron's oddly calm one. Aradia was sitting on one of the Twins' lap, her little chubby legs swinging back and forth. The Twins seemed to be trying to calm her down- she looked upset, as though she was the one who was bringing the trouble to them.

'What- what if it's not the way Aradia predicted it to be?' Jen suddenly said, her voice quiet.

'What do you mean?' Miharu asked, confused.

'Well... Aradia's more trained than Sarah, yeah? Remember when Sarah Saw something but interpreted it the wrong way?'

They nodded.

'Well... Aradia's still young. And she's attached to the people, that's what you've been saying as to why she Saw it first. And she's from the future, where she would have been dealing with some really frightening things day after day. What if she's only interpreting it like she is because of her life experiences?'

Karen frowned, her head cocked. 'So what you're saying is...?'

'What if it's not actually a terminator or someone from Skynet taking Angelica away? What if it's someone else entirely?'

'Like who?'

Jen glanced over at Ronon before turning back to the group. 'What about the SGC? They know Caroline's pregnant and they know she has strong ties to Level EEE and Skynet. They're just itching to get their hands on someone from here, and no one's more defenceless than a baby.'

Oliver nodded, nibbling his tomatoes. He was thoughtful, tinkering with the binoculars again, then his eyes widened.

"There we go. Now we're talking." He studied the movement a bit before, then frowned deeply. "But I don't like this at all."

He pressed a small button, capturing several shots before giving over the equipment again, let Sarah see for herself.

"I'd say that looks like upper military to you, don't you? Branded on the neck, nearly hidden by their shirts. That band with the patch, right near their boots. "Sky brought me back pictures of the patches from those guys that SGC's been sending around to the Tunnels to harass Dr. Keller lately. I'd say this is an exact match, at least visually."

The Twins were looking down at Aradia.

"I saw the tin things coming to take her away. Only two. It was really awful. Bad." She looked down, her eyes wet. She closed her eyes, searching further, remembering.

And then she saw something else within the heat of the battle that was to come - unmarked men in paramilitary gear behind the tin things. They were very obviously human, and didn't give off the half-buzz of Infiltrators, nor the soft glow of the Eaters.

The same moment she searched, Rose's eyes flared. There was a connection there.

After a minute, they both turned to the screen to face each other. They nodded quietly.

"By their ankles - barely hidden by their boots. SGC, upper command. Regular humans. Secret operatives." Aradia finally gasped, then ran to the bathroom. Aurora went with her to make sure she was okay. Arielle followed, but not before tossing a file at Aria, who examined the pictures inside. She showed one to Rose, who nodded. One of the foolish young men that had been there days earlier.

"But how would the SGC have their hands on fully-made Skynet operatives?" Rose asked shakily, feeling a little dizzy. She rested back on the couch. The Bad Wolf inside confirmed it, full of rage.

"A deal, maybe." Ronon was pacing again, looking pissed off himself. He'd seen atrocities in his time both in the military and as a Runner. He felt bile and rage rising in his throat. "Man would I like a shot at Landry right about now." He snarled, coming fingers through his hair.

'What the hell?' Sarah murmured. She mentally tried to poke Ishtar but she wouldn't budge, holed up in the corner of her mind.

The military men were a distance away from the metal but Sarah couldn't tell if they were working together or not. Lowering the binoculars, she turned to Oliver.

'We should let the others know.'

He nodded. 'Agreed.'

They headed downstairs only to run into Arielle who was leaving the bathroom. She stepped in front of them, eyebrows raised.

'Military,' Oliver said without any further elaboration. Not that it appears to be needed. Arielle snorted, her eyes clouded black.

'Guessed as much,' she said as she led them to the rest. 'Dr Keller made herself useful just as our Pup started fitting. I didn't think they'd be here so fast.'

'The Terminators are still there, though,' Sarah explained, looking over her shoulder at the screen.

'Are they connected?' Miharu asked, peering at her.

'They could just be a guise, though,' came Jennifer's voice from offscreen. 'We've run into the technology before. They know what they look like and it wouldn't take much to program it. They've fooled even the best of aliens before. Altering it wouldn't take much to fool Eaters. We're not Ancients or Asgard. We're still human.'

Sarah poked her head in, the poor little pup, getting cleaned up after worshiping the porcelain god. She frowned, feeling for the little girl, feeling protective of her. Maternal. Aurora was stripping her down and putting her in the bathroom, just nodding at Sarah to say that they were okay for now.

Aria saw her, and waved her down next to her, Oliver bending to Sky's ear and talking to her.

"McKay would know." Ronon blinked. "If we could just stun one of the metal-military guys, we could see if it's really metal or just a person under a cloak. He knows the technology. And Sam's with him on this one. She was a good woman in command, and she's been doing her best to protect Jen. I trust her as well, so I think they're clear. But with all of this with the sending of those assholes to scare them into giving unfinished and raw data among other things..." He shook his head. "This stinks of bureaucracy. Too much secrecy, too many layers."

Silence through the room.

"He's part of my team, Sheppard's team. Even if he's annoying as hell, I trust him with my life. I've had to. He's good to go on this one."

Cameron was pensive a moment. "In the old timeline, Skynet and the SGC weren't connected. Not once, not ever, aside from Skynet wanting the technology after the Gates were shut. And even now, our recon gives no connection between the two."

"Not to mention that Angelica is basically the heir of thirty, forty years of a braintrust of knowledge on the Eaters. SGC gets her, raises her to talk..." Sky said, nodding back to her brother.

'This timeline is already different,' Rose suddenly said. Her eyes were glowing gold for a moment before they faded back down. 'In the ones I've looked over previously, they've all been altered in some way. In a few Ronon, wasn't permitted to stay on Earth. On others, Rodney and his team never came. In several more, Aradia never came back. Just because the SGC and Skynet never made contact in your future doesn't mean they won't.'

Sarah had sat herself down near the screen. Her face was pure worry, her brow knit close together, the corners of her eyes scrunched up.

'All we know is that Skynet has ties with the military.'

Rose nodded, looking exhausted. 'And Stargate Command is military.'

Miharu let out a sigh and slumped back in her chair. She turned to Jen, eyebrows raised. 'Can you look into it?'

'I- I can try. I don't know how far I'll be able to get, though. I'm still a civilian.'

'What about Sam?' Karen asked.

Jen just shrugged again. In all honesty she was starting to suspect they were closing Sam out, too. She'd only been able to pick up snatches of mindchatter and none of it had been all that comforting.

Sky met Jen's eyes, small knowing smile. Sam needed to stay in the loop. They needed a way to keep her there.

Or expose the link.

"What about McKay's team?" Aria looked at Ronon, still stalking around in circles.

"On break but under watch." He nodded. "We're being careful with them the most. They're green but eager. They want to please."

"And if we have plants there..." She started.

"They have them here." He nodded again, sat down, head in his hands again. "It's just getting more and more complicated."

"We have three days." Cameron looked at everyone, both in the room and onscreen. "We need to make sure Angelica is birthed safely, first and foremost, and stays with her mother. Everywhere else, we need to upgrade security. I think we can agree on that for now."

Aria looked at her. "And John?"

"I think Sarah will agree that we need to make sure that he doesn't go trying to be a hero. Not now." Rowan pinched between his eyes. Aria nodded, cheeks a little red. Derek was chuckling but it was good natured.

"And keeping our eyes on the timelines." Rose nodded, tired.

Arielle was in the hall. "You need to stay well, Rose." She looked at her, concerned.

"I just need to take turns resting." She nodded, but internally touched that the Twins cared. She smiled, but it was a small smile. "Besides, the Wolf will wake me up if it's really an emergency."

'Why can't we just go and get rid of the terminators?'

Sarah smiled at Jennifer's naiveity. 'Then the SGC will really be on our ass. And it's not that simple, especially if the military is watching our location. They could very well be tracking us.'

'So go ahead as though you don't know they're there,' Ronon said. 'Leave when you would have typically left.'

'But what about Caroline?' Arielle scoffed. We can't just leave her here to fend for herself?'

'No- no- ' Aurora spun around, looking at Aria and Cameron. 'You two. No offence, Aria, but when it comes to brutal force, Cameron may very well be suited to this job.' She turned back to the screen, her dark eyes seeming to light up. 'Aria was meant to stay here tonight. Not that the SGC probably knows, but... if the SGC already know Aria and Caroline are close, which they probably do, they'd figure Aria would be here while she was about to give birth. They'd be expecting her and would plan accordingly. They probably don't know much of Cameron, though, if anything. They wouldn't be expecting to go head-to-head with a full-fledged terminator.'

"That's good." Cameron nodded. "I agree. If I can get close enough to see if the two units outside are really Skynet and not just military under the guise of Skynet we can plan further from there."

"We could get you cloaked enough so that if they are metal they couldn't be able to read you." Arielle grinned as Aurora went back to their pup in the tub when she called. "Just like the bad old days."

"That would keep John out of the ring, too." Aria nodded, knowing that would probably soothe Sarah some.

"If he gets anxious, we'll tie him down." Rowan and Derek nodded. "We'll make sure he doesn't leave the house."

"I'll stay here as planned and continue to check in every so often."

Caroline stroked her belly. "What about the baby?"

Aurora smiled. "We've been doing a few modifications to the basement. It may not be the most scenic of places, but SGC will probably be expecting you here, above ground."

'That won't stop them from going down there, though,' Sarah said, pinching the bridge of her nose. Ishtar was huffing about again and she could feel a migraine forming.

'She's right,' Ronon said, head cocked as she watched the strange woman on the screen squirm about like Jen did when people were screaming in her mind. They'd been trying to keep Jen out of the screen just in case it caused a feedback loop. Jen seemed alright, though. 'Even I've been able to get into some fairly secure places with my team. I doubt the basement would be much help.'

'I could try,' Rose offered.

'What about the effects on the baby?' Arielle asked. The concern on her face was evident and it seemed strange to see such pure emotion from one of the Hounds.

Rose shrugged. 'No idea, which is why I've been hesitant to bring it up. It would be a last case scenario thing. If the metal or SGC breech security- whether they're working together or not- I'd only bring them here if we have no other choice.'

"There's a way out." Oliver said, the first thing he'd really said since he and Sarah had come down from the roof. "Much like the shelters we've been cobbling together, it would follow a longer route to EEE. But only certain people can get in or out. The SGC and Metal wouldn't be able to force their way through those doors."

"We have one of the Healers staying with Reki, Chase, and Antoinette - she's been on call and came back with us to make sure Angelica would come out okay. She's Level One, top of her game, hyphenate with Manipulation. She'll be able to guard and help the kid come out at the same time." Sky nodded to Arielle, who relaxed just a bit. Nora was a good woman, good Healer. She'd be able to do real good here. Once again, she silently thanked the future John for sending her back.

"Speaking of the other half of the household, what's going on with them?" Miharu asked, chewing her lip.

"Chase is on call tonight. Reki's with Antoinette and Nora. We're still trying to get a gameplan down so that no one freaks out too much, but they're within the loop. Chase doesn't know." Caroline rubbed her belly, feeling Angelica kick eagerly. "He's not exactly the most brave of men, even if he does work for House. He gave me my little girl, but...he cracks under pressure. We're only telling him what he needs to know, and that isn't much."

Oliver cracked a smile. "He's going to be pissed when all of this is over."

Caroline shrugged, "That's fine. He's a good man, but I don't want to expose him to this."

Aria noticed how Sarah's shoulders were tensing, and gently felt her hand. It was clammy - a migraine coming on.

"Okay, let's wrap this up for now. Take a break and get some ideas and food. Get McKay and Sam in on this one, and make sure his team is still under watch." She sighed, warming each one of Sarah's hands. "Dial us back in half an hour and we'll go from there."

There was general agreement and the connection went quiet. Arielle yawned. "The pup's down for a nap. Oliver, back up on the roof. Cameron, Aria, Sarah - you're left to your own devices until we dial everyone back. I'll talk to Caroline for now."

Caroline nodded. "That's fine with me. Aria, leave your jump drive with me so I can look at your scan results."

She fished them out of her jeans pocket and gave the slim little drive to Caroline. Everyone else left the room, Sky going over to Reki and Nora to fill them in.

Which left the last three women there, walking to the second guest bedroom, hand in hand. They sat Sarah down on the bed, dimming the natural light so it made the pain not as bad.

"She's holding something back, I take it?" Aria asked softly, gently warming those hands just enough so they wouldn't ache as much. "I won't ask what or why. I just hate seeing you get these headaches." She kissed Sarah's cheek, then her lips. That seemed to relax the older woman - so long since she'd had a kiss from her Sistergirl. So long.

Sighing gently, Sarah leant into Aria's warm touch, craving just a little more. Inside she felt Ishtar relaxed just a notch, though she was still upset, twisting about.

'All of this reminds me just when I was about to give birth to John,' she sighed, reaching out for Cameron's cooler hand. She leant back, silently admitting she wasn't feeling well, and pressed Cameron's hand against her warm forehead. 'He was a bastard of a fetus. He wouldn't cooperate. He'd lie against my spine and kick as soon as I lay down to sleep. He was in the breech position right up until the morning of the day I was meant to give birth to him. He switched around at the last minute. God, I don't ever want to do that again.'

She rested her hand against her stomach, remembering the swell of her belly. The tiny shack in Mexico was stinking hot for a Feburary that day and she gave birth with an eye on the door and a gun in her hand, half expecting a terminator come in at any second.

Blinking her eyes open, irises bright green as Ishtar fluttered about, she licked her lips.

'I don't even think she knows,' she admitted quietly. 'It's like when I was about to See the incident in the diner. I think it's more than that, though. It... hurts more. And it's not me, it's Ishtar. She won't quiet down.'

Aria nodded, gently nuzzled her. Cameron's arm curling around her shoulder.

"And you've asked already, I've taken it, with no reply." She murmured, and Sarah nodded. The dark was a blessed relief against the pain starting to throb in her head. Aria noted Cameron's hand and started lower her own body temperature as a result, cooling her just a bit more.

They were comfortable and quiet a moment there, knowing no one would disturb them until either the half hour was up or something else came up.

"It seems like each time Ishtar is about to See or has seen something, it's connected not just to John as a person, but as being the Son and you the Mother." Cameron murmured, now pressing her fingers under her eyes.

"A strong maternal connection, you mean?" Aria asked and she nodded. "I hadn't thought of it that way", she said thoughtfully, "But now that you mention it, it makes sense. It could be that the impending birth, because it's partially nostalgic for you, Sarah, being a mother and all, it's doubly so for Ishtar, who hasn't been able to have her own body and her own children from that body for a very long time."

"And by nostalgic, painful." Cameron caught on, nodding to herself, moving her fingers. "She was the Mother goddess, after all. It makes sense."

Sarah's feet, free from their boots, were also clammy, so Aria warmed them with her own while trying to balance the temperature in case the pain shot up. They needed Sarah functional right now, and as clear-headed as possible. The migraines Ishtar caused were tended to go beyond Sarah's amazing pain threshhold and amount of self-control.

"I don't know what it's like to be a mother. Not yet, anyway." Aria's lips were cool against her throat. "But we're with you. And the boys will keep John safe. We'll keep Caroline safe, too. I'm just...I'm just sorry I wasn't able to come to you before this." Her smile was a little sad. "Tell me when she starts acting like this - earlier next time."

"Both of us. Tell us both." Cameron frowned, but it wasn't angry. "Just don't like seeing you in pain."

Her face screwed up as she felt Aria's warm hands on her feet but relaxed soon after. She was silent as she willed Ishtar to calm down, to stop hurting her body. She just wanted to relax, to stop the pain. Squeezing her eyes shut, she let out a soft whine, the pain making her slightly nauseous but not enough to be sick.

'It hit so fast,' she murmured, her hand clutching the bedspread. 'Soon after we found out about what was going to happen. I didn't have time.'

Reaching out, she squirmed up against Cameron, her other hand resting on Aria's wrist. She just needed to take a moment to relax, to let the pain melt from her head. Ishtar was starting to ease back, finally noticing what she was doing to Sarah's body, though she was still fluttering about.

'Whatever's gotten to her, it's not making her happy,' she murmured, her fingers curling and uncurling.

Lilith's voice as she was nuzzling her, whispering quickly into her ear, the Old Language telling her, pleading with her to stop hurting Sarah, to tell them what the problem was, so they could help soothe the pain. To love her. Because they loved her.

Both pressed their lips against her temples, feeling Sarah relax just a little bit more.

"Just give her some time. If she's freaked out, she knows what the stakes are and she'll say something before the time limit." Aria murmured to her, trying to reassure her.

The fan went lazily above them, circulating the cool dry air in the dim room. Sarah was continuing to circle between her fingers clenching in momentary pain and going limp as it left, though the latter seemed to be taking over the former.

"When all of this is over", Aria promised with a rakish grin after more silence had passed and Sarah was starting to fall asleep, "We'll tangle together and make you feel better."

Cameron smiled back at her and then at Sarah, nodding. As she napped, they held onto her, hoping that Ishtar would tell them what was going on.
