Hurr. OSAP halp? [23 Dec 2009|11:52pm]

drhoabtrimmer
[ mood | confused ]

So the document tracker says:
"If your document is shown as "Mailed - Second Instalment", even though you will receive your document in the mail, the funds will not be released until Jan. 4, 2010"

So does my document get mailed to me or to Student Client Services? I'm concerned because I forgot to change my address with OSAP when I moved a couple months ago. If it gets mailed to me, will it get sent to the address York has on file, which is my current one, or the address OSAP has on file?

And is this the same as the document I picked up earlier? Same process? I'm sure this is a really stupid question, but I'm pretty confused. I'm freaking out a bit because I had so many problems picking up my OSAP earlier this year.

Buying Back Books [21 Dec 2009|04:39pm]

Random question here...

Does the bookstore buy back books in September only? Or will they do the same when the winter term starts in January?

Thanks in advance :D

[21 Dec 2009|11:36am]

Hey, Theatre students: can you help me out with a few questions regarding the application process?

My own background: I'm a third-year Philosophy student applying for admission to Theatre as a first or second-year student in September 2010, hoping to land in production. I've been working on this with the department since August, so I'm familiar with the formal process and criteria, but I'd like to get some input from people who have been through this process (successfully!) to fill in a few gaps. :)

The questions I'm concerned with at the moment:

1) How long do they want your application to be? In answering the "why do you want to study theatre at York?" question, I'm tempted to ramble on and on for seven or eight paragraphs. Is this excessive? Do they want a biography ("I've done XYZ, so I'm awesome."), or more of a philosophy? ("I'm passionate about XYZ, so I'm awesome.")

2) At the audition appointment itself, will it be in a group or solo? How long are you expected to speak for? What sort of materials would someone applying for production present?

3) Any general advice on the application process?

Inelegible to graduate [18 Dec 2009|07:02pm]

captainee
Hi guys

I just got a letter from the Registrars`s office because I applied to graduate, for June 2010

The letter says I must sucessfully complete 6 FACS credits and 3 communications credits and that I am at the time ineligible to graduate

a) are they couting courses I am registered in for next semester?
b) are they telling me I have to just do those 18 credits next semester? or are they telling me I need to do the credits I am enrolled in for next semester already plus 3 other courses?

Thanks!!

Claire

*** EDIT
After calulating my course requirements and what im enrolled in, Ive figured they are taking into account what I am enrolled in and what I am not enrolled in yet for Winter, so it makes sense

However!!!

On my transfer credit note (course credit exclusion assessment form) upon transfering from concordia I got a
''York equivalent or course credit exclusion'' for 3 credits. The ''level of study'' on the form for this course is 2000, but the course credit exclusion - york equivalent is Sosc 3320  - a third year, three credit course. I figured because the course I took at concordia took a year and not half a year, I was getting the course credited.

its also written : 6 credits can be used in Category D.
The whole table granted me 3 credits for 6 Concordia courses - 12 in communications including the 3320 exclusion, and two in FILM. so... Me and my councellor assumed early on that I had 6 category d credits AND the 3320 requierment filled out

... so why do I see that I need to do another third year coms course?

Argh sorry, if anyone can enlighten I would be glad

Lost USB key!!! [14 Dec 2009|06:08pm]
buruy
Hi guys!

I know this won't be likely, but I'm hoping there's a chance..

I was at Scott Library this afternoon on the 2nd level where all the computers are between the times of 1pm-3:30pm. I sat on the computers next to the printers. In my rush to hand in my essays on time before the department closed, I accidentally left my USB there, plugged into the computer! HAS ANYONE SEEN A NEON PINK, 1GB USB KEY? :(

If you have, please comment here or email me at: sphinx18@mail.com

I am really strapped for cash and literally down to my last $20 so I'm REALLY sorry the reward won't be big at all, but I am willing to go poor just to get my USB key back. (In case you're wondering, I bought the USB for $10 last year so it's very plain-looking. But my school work is on there! :()

I'm going to check with the library and lost & found tomorrow, but I also wanted to take a chance here in case someone found it and decided not to keep it. :P

ERGGG TTC busway [12 Dec 2009|09:12pm]

maradori
So the new busway has been open for a while now. It's all nice and dandy, speeding up my commute to YuckU.

But is it me, or did they cut service on the 196B departing from Sheppard-Yonge? I swear, almost every time I'm at Sheppard-Yonge, I wait like 20 minutes for a bus. I don't see much point spending n million dollars for this busway to save me 5 minutes per trip when I have to wait 10 extra minutes waiting for a bus.

It's gotten so bad that I just take the 60C. It's a much more rational choice to go to Finch, where there's a bus going to YuckU within 8 minutes than to freeze wait 20 minutes at the platform at Sheppard.

Anyone else notice this?

Fall Grades [10 Dec 2009|10:51pm]

rachelashleigh
Not sure how many of you are aware, but grades will be released on a rolling basis again. As far as I know, the first upload of grades most likely occurred today with the professors and departments that have submitted their grades to the RO. So keep on checking your grade report periodically as there is no "release" date.

wtf? [09 Dec 2009|05:01pm]

nightingale0
I'm in the library trying to read something from an ebook. 10 minutes to open the book and try get to the 1st page I wanted, and it's loaded with 2 giant grey rectangles that have small blue question marks in the top corner. Unfortunately, this means that I am missing so much of the page that it's useless :-(

Alarms in Curtis Lecture Hall [07 Dec 2009|02:14pm]

This image is perfect: Staff filter out of Central Square so they can get off work for a bit, while students remain to study for exams outside of their lectures hall, despite the alarm.

Got an in-class test on Monday (in 14 hours too!), Tuesday, and exam on Friday.

Let's take bets, how many combined fire alarms and bomb threats will be called this month?

I'm predicting 10

TurnItIn.com [06 Dec 2009|06:01pm]

k_kaleidoscopes
In my one course, the professor insisted that we print out a digital receipt from TurnItIn or else our paper wouldn't be considered for marking. We weren't given a course number or password, but she claims that there's a way to print out a "general" receipt without a login...

I've read all the instructions and followed all the links on the York webpage, as well as tried to create a login (unsuccessfully) without the number and password, but for the life of me I can't figure it out. I would email the prof for directions, but this was brought up in class and even she doesn't know how to do it, but simply knows from past experience that there IS a way.

Help, please? This is the last thing I have to worry about before the term is done and I just want to be done with it.

Gripe about Tim Hortons (Central Square) [04 Dec 2009|08:16am]

hotohori_freak
I sometimes wonder why, on TWO occasions (and maybe more if I went there more), the Central Square Tim Hortons left crap in my coffee/tea (like pieces of plastic). Big actual pieces of plastic.

Yeah, so I get the more expensive coffees and cry.

YorkU Subway Line [02 Dec 2009|03:08pm]

rachelashleigh
Thought I'd share this tidbit, since I'm doing a project on disability and the TTC.

This is from the Network 2011 plan, drafted in 1985. This is what they planned the subway system to be like and implemented by 2011. Take a look at YorkU on the map, and the plan of having subway platforms run along Steeles too!!

I hope you found this as interesting as I did...we've been on the radar for years and still nada! I know talks of the York subway station dates even further than this, but it's neat to see it actually on a map all those years ago.

student account help needed [02 Dec 2009|01:10pm]

breadsandwiches
Sorry I'm sure I've posted a similar question before, but I can't find it in the search.

I have an enrollment block because my student account is not paid off. My current balance is $1,411.27. I need to transfer into another section of one of my winter courses so I can add another course in it's place...it's essential for me to graduate this year.

I had to beg my mom to pay $500 today. How much does the account need to have in it before the block is lifted? Also, if it's too expensive for us to pay right now, is there a financial relief appeal type thing I can go through?

Thank you

Classical Students Association [01 Dec 2009|08:43pm]

niuxita21
Hey all.

Does anyone know what happened to the Classical Students Association over at Vanier? I'm writing an article for one of my classes on the study of Classical languages in the 21st century and I went over there today to see if I could talk to some of the members, but the people from the Italian-Canadian Federation (I think that's what it's called?) told me the CSA has been closed since last year. Is that true? If so, who could I talk to to know what happened? Is there an office of some kind that manages this kind of associations on campus? I'm sorry if this question is really obvious, but I'm not a Classical Studies major or anything remotely close, so this is far out of my alley.

Thanks. :)

Scott Library question [01 Dec 2009|05:31pm]

srahman24
Are there any vending machines in the library?

I know, there's that whole food court right outside but I'm usually stuck on the 5th floor and it's such a pain in the ass to go all the way down and come all the way back up just for the sake of a chocolate bar. Also, that food court closes too early for my liking.

ETA: Sorry for the really stupid question. I'd delete this post, but don't want to be one of those people. Happy studying, everyone.

Graduation Photos [30 Nov 2009|03:55pm]

unchartedwaters
I checked the memories and ljseek but to no avail. Nobody is picking up the phone at their location and I am in a time crunch needing an answer asap.

Aside from the dates they list, December 9th 2009 showing as the last day for York grad photos taken on campus, is it possible to get grad photos taken on a different day? Are they coming back on campus anytime in the new year and if not can I get them taken at their location?
