Alternate YFQ server

  • Apr. 2nd, 2008 at 7:58 PM
A bit of clarification on the last post:

irc.notandy.com is not just a temporary site for #yayforqueers. It is actually a second server in the same IRC network. If you use an IRC client like XChat, you can add it to the list of servers for the NBTSC/yayforqueers/whatever network. This way, whenever polis is down, you will use notandy instead. The channels on notandy are exactly the same as the channels on polis, and if some people are logged into one server and some into the other, they will all be part of the same conversation.

Indeed, and well handled. Thanks, David and Andy both.

I would have texted some info if I could have, or called someone to post stuff, but we were without internet service, phone service and cell service here from 1600 to 0000 or so, and I went to bed.

That's kind of scary, actually. What happened? Were there ham radio operators running around?

Someone hit the fiber-opertic line south of Montrose (which is about half an hour from here) with a backhoe or something and cut the line. Everything going through that line, phones (land line phones in town worked but you couldn't call out long distance), internet, cell service, was down. I'm guessing they flew folks in from Denver to repair the line because disconnected services were back up and running when I woke up yesterday.

Still, pretty scary. All emergency calls were being routed to the Marshal's phone because dispatch couldn't be reached.

Nah, but the county's emergency VHF system worked fine.
