If the economy's got you down and you think you can't afford to attend any conventions this year, well... think again. Yasumicon 2009 is the answer. South Florida's largest free anime convention is back for a 7th year, July 11th and 12th at FIU University Park Campus in Miami, FL. And still free!

Join us as we welcome back special musical guest: Arm Cannon. That's right, the boys from Buffalo are back! If you missed them last year, you'll definitely want to catch this year's show.

We will be announcing a lot more news in the coming weeks, so join the community or add it to your watch list to stay on top of the latest news, and don't forget to drop by our Forums and check out what's new there.

Well, we're interested in you as well. As a growing convention we're looking to make our selections better than last year. One of the ways we do this is ask if anyone wants to do a panel at our event. Sound interesting? Well we hope so.

If you have a panel idea, feel free to post it here

Thanks!

Hey guys, just wondering if some of the cosplayers would like to get together for some tea and cake? I'm looking to get cosplayers together because I noticed that there isn't much going on in Miami, and I know there are some great cosplayers out there, and it would be nice to get together, take some pictures, talk cosplay and have fun.

I'm looking to do this before Yasumicon, because Yasumicon takes up some of my free time.

In any case, if this sounds interesting, leave a comment at the forums.

Thanks!

Was that a hint of things to come?

We'll leave that to you.

Meanwhile, enjoy our site and our forums. If you have any question, feel free to reply here or email us at yplanning@gmail.com

Hey guys, just wanted to get back into the swing of things. Seems like it was only yesterday when I first made the post about Yasumicon and filling the position as Convention Chairman. I hope all is well and you guys are well into getting into another great year for anime. Just wanted to get out the news.

Yasumicon 2008 is going to be on August 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

Yeah, I know what you're thinking. 3 days?!?! Yup. Though I will say that August 1st will be our night time event, for preregistration, but we'll have events at night as well as a dinner and dancing. A lot of planning has been done for it, and we hope that you'll come the extra day to get together and have fun!

I know I will. Look forward to more information as well as a revamping of our site to reflect our theme: Miami Vice!

We'll be taking this convention to celebrate the great town we live in as well as expressing what we like about the anime lifestyle.

We hope to see you there. If you have any questions, feel free to post it here or email it to our planning email at yplanning@gmail.com

After a fun beach day, and a recovery from the fun beach day, I have returned from zombie mode. I just now counted the registrations for Saturday. We have 1816 registrations, not including vendors, staff, volunteers, etc. So it's pretty close to 2,000 who packed GC on Saturday. There actually were a lot of people who came on Sunday as well, but I'm still counting the total number of wristbands left to get a complete individual count of Saturday + Sunday.

Hopefully I can get some footage and pictures from the guys and have clips given to me to show at the meeting. If you have any pictures, please comment up Tom and upload them on the pictures website, or bring them on Thursday's Anything Goes Anime meeting so we can do so.

cheers!

I wanted to take an opportunity to talk with you about Yasumicon. Yeah, sorta cheesy and late considering how quiet things have been over here at our LJ community, but over the past couple of months, a lot of planning has occurred. Staff definitely seemed rather renewed and ideas sprang forth. It's true that there has been a reputation about us.

"They're a small con", or "They have their problems, but it's free", and "It's not huge, but it's intimate".

And I'm here to say it's all true.

Yasumicon was a brainchild of someone who wanted to give back to the community in South Florida and a group of friends willing to support that dream. We never get great stuff down here as far as support for Anime. It's always somewhere further up north, like Tampa and Orlando. These conventions are wonderfully great cons where people can get together and share in their love for Anime. I took the position of General Coordinator aka Con Chairman to ensure that Yasumicon keeps its roots: A place for us to get together, watch some anime and have fun.

I hope that I'll be able to deliver on that idea. You've spoken about Yasumicon, whether it was at the con during closing ceremonies, here, or at a forum and I've dived deep into it, taking everyone's views and valid points. I hope that 2007, our fifth year, not only meets everyone's expectations, but surpasses it. It's with that feeling I wanted to have this "heart to heart" chat with you. That and to say "Thank you".

Thank you for all of the support and I hope that it continues for years to come. You really do make this "job" worthwhile. I sincerely mean that with all my heart.

In the coming week, I'll be releasing information that should prove beneficial to you, the congoer. Take it, use it and be merry.

Lastly, I hope that this year will change your minds about Yasumicon for the better. We're not just a small con or a free con but your con.

"If you have a question or concern, feel free to post it"

Thank you for your time and patronage at our convention

Edwin Pérodin
(Yasumicon General Coordinator)

Hey everyone! I know that it's been some time since an update has gone up. Perhaps you thought we were sleeping.

Maybe some of you thought that it was over.

I think not!

No, my friends, We've been quietly working to bring you:

YASUMICON 2007:NATSU MATSURI EDITION!

THAT'S RIGHT!

Since 2003, Yasumicon has been bringing you a convention annually to represent the anime industry in Miami and this year is even bigger than the years past. We celebrate our 5th year throwing Yasumicon in the South Miami area and believe it or not...It's still free!

Entirely free is how we at Yasumicon give back to the community!

All this month we'll be updating the forum and website with new information about guests, panels, events and so much more!

So are you ready?

Natsu Matsuri is coming your way August 11th and 12th!

i don't know if anyone in this comm is actually involved with the making and maintaining of yasumicon in itself, but i have a question about the artists alley tables.
all i want to know is
1. how big are they?
2. is it okay for a bunch of artists selling different stuff to share one table?
3. is it okay to sell manga as well as your craft at an artists table?
4. is it okay to bring a smaller, extra table from home, or does that warrent banishment from the con?

i just need to know this stuff by at LEAST the 10th of July, that way i'll know if i can go buy a crapload of beads at michaels. my craft is jewelry making, candpop bracelets, glass, keychains...not to mention custom name bracelets. i hope that this post isn't considered trolling or spamming or anything, i just want to help make yasumicon as fun as it was last year by getting affordable stuff to the masses. thank you.
ps, if i AM trolling/spamming, sorry.
