Pleasing to go look, the hubby has been laid-off as of Friday and it'd be nice to go "Oh I sold a bunch of yarn!"

Two things happen EVERY TIME I visit the purewool website.

1. I start singing to myself "Here's a little ditty about BLACK AND CYAN..."

2. I see their colourway called "MARVEL" and feel an nigh uncontrollable urge to make a cooler colourway called "DC."

Is there any interest in me doing a price-list for YYMD (your yarn, my dye)?

IE: Folks can send me their own yarn to be dyed for a fee and I dye it and send it back.

two other "new" things

  • Jun. 29th, 2008 at 1:00 PM
Two other things that are "new:"

1. I now have "licorice twist" worsted wool yarn!

It could be done in any colourway, but looks best as a "single colour" due to the yarn's unique way of taking dye.

It is a 4-ply superwash yarn, one ply of which sucks up way more dye than the others, producing a twisty colour, like so:

2. It's not really new, but I realized that even though I'd been making it for years, somehow RUSTY ROAD didn't get itself into the colourway list, so here it is as well!

two new ones!

If it's not clear on your computer, FARALLON's darkest colour is a super-dark green, not black.

This is sooo cool.

I can't wait to get it all figured out....anyone out their using it already that might have some pointers for me?

Making a braided Drawstring

  • Jun. 28th, 2008 at 4:00 PM
This is probably a really dumb question....

All the patterns I have for longies and shorties tell me to knit an icord for use in the waistband. I don't like how bulky they come out and I've tried knitting the icord down at 2 or 3 stitches for the cord.

I've seen a few pair for sale on Hyena Cart that look like they have a braid for a waist band tie. Do I just use 3 strands of yarn and braid it like I would braid hair?

Is there any other type of drawstring that works well?

(I did say this was a dumb question :) )

Thanks for reading and advising.
This is a Calorimetry I made for a very special friend of mine who just happens to be moving away. I have enough left that I might have to make myself a matching one. It takes only about 1/2 a skein of PW and Pear's colorways are to DIE for. <3 her so much. Anyway, here it is:

It knit up in MAYBE 2 hours -- seriously instant gratification. I know a lot of people said that working it by the pattern makes it too big, but that wasn't really my experience, perhaps because the PW is a light worsted. I actually accidentally made it 2 or 3 rows WIDER than the pattern called for -- but it still looks really good on its recipient and that's all that matters. Not that she'll have a ton of call for a soft wool earwarmer since she'll be living within walking distance of the BEACH, but...

Additional PW Co-op info!

  • Jun. 27th, 2008 at 10:54 AM
Just a reminder!

If you ordered dyed-by-pw yarn and would like the chemical smell rinsed out and the skeins wound it's 40cents per skein.

If you ordered dyed-by-me yarn and want it wound (I use natural dyes so no steeeeeenky) it's 25 cents per skein.

Just lemme know.

Two things for sale is someone likes PW 3-ply! - BOTH SOLD - THANK YOU!
(you can click for a bigger picture)

Selling at cost + shipping, so $10 each:

Green Grass by PW:

Actually looks pretty much EXACTLY like the picture because the colour is right, but it was supposed to be in the single-ply, but came in the 3-ply.

CIPRES by PW:

Has some dark brown in it and the white is more of a cream colour.
Also, was ordered in single-ply and came in 3-ply instead.

So yeah, they're both pretty, but I'm just a single-ply girl.

Well...

The PW is here so everyone's friday chants worked.

HOWEVER, there are a LOT of errors in this order.
A LOT.
Some of the yarn dyed by them I can't even identify what it was supposed to be.
Some yarn is dyed in the wrong yarn.
They sent me the wrong number of undyed skeins in everything but the boucle.

I am beyond grumpy and have written them a (polite) letter asking them to identify the unknown skeins, send the undyed yarn that's missing etc.

Today I will dye what I can from the undyed they sent me and I will try to get any complete orders out as well. If your order is screwed up I'll be emailing you privately (with pictures etc) of what arrived.

Sorry Guys.

PW Update

  • Jun. 26th, 2008 at 10:31 AM
After mailing three different addresses I finally got a response from purewool saying they've been trying and trying to email me but it must be going in my spam folder. riiiiiiiiiiight.

Away, here's the tracking number folks:
865297184161

Looks like right now our yarn is in Buenos Aires.

And while it's supposed to take three days, I think that's "three non-weekend" days, so I'm guessing for monday.
Although friday would be way cooler cause then I could dye this weekend.

Everyone chant with me:
"FRIDAY!! FRIDAY!! FRIDAY!! FRIDAY!! FRIDAY!! FRIDAY!! FRIDAY!! FRIDAY!!"

PW Update

  • Jun. 25th, 2008 at 11:17 PM
Just sent PW another (firmer) note saying that they had been sending me promotional emails, so they were obviously online and asking where the heck the tracking number for the yarn was.

*grumpy*

Got Knits!?

  • Jun. 24th, 2008 at 3:13 PM
Don't forget - when you do a "surprise yarn" slot - it's $5 off my normal knitting prices!

Also - I have noooooooo waiting list right now (you can always see the knit list on the community info page!) so surprise knits will be speedy!

And if you order today, you'll also get free shippin'!

Knitty Prices:

KIDS:
Longies $50
Shorts $40
Soakers $35
Sweaters $50-75 (depending on style)
Baby Hats $12-24
Sleep-Sack $65-85 (depending on size of child and whether you want a hood)

ADULT Hats, assorted styles: $18-30.
Earflaps - $3 extra

Embroidery $3 and up (Tell me what you want and I will tell you *IF* I can do it and how much.)

Newborn clothes are $3 LESS because they are itsy and wee. BIG kids (ie: larger toddlers) may cost more if I have to use a 3rd skein of yarn. Most kids take two or less.

You can choose any of my colourways. (Or send your own yarn)

Also, let me know:
1. The measurements needed
2. If you would like your item lanolized or if you prefer to do that yourself.
3. On longies/shorts: if you would like purly cuffs, ribby cuffs, seed-stitch cuffs or footy (enclosed) toes AND whether you want a drawstring waist or a longer ribbed waist.

WANT TO PAY EVEN LESS?

$5 OFF if *I* get to pick the yarn and surprize you! (You still get to say things like "No Purple" or "I already have an outfit in "whitecaps" or "I really love earthtones.")

Let me know if you would like a slot!

If you'd like to see some of my work click on the "show off," "baby clothes" or "hats!" tags.

My nephew will be EVEN CUTER.

  • Jun. 24th, 2008 at 3:08 PM
Hat & Longies set I made for my nephew with and "oops" yarn. (I was trying to make a lavender/brown combo kind of like "anuk" but the lavender ran rampant over everything. That's okay though, cause my SIL squeed over it!)
