Suzumiya Haruhi on Malaysian TV, soon!

Edited for some mistakes.

NTV7 is really "your feel good channel". And I'm really feelin' good.

Starting from Friday, June 29 2007, Malaysian national television channel, NTV7, will be showing the anime series "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya". The anime series shall air on 12:15am till 12:45am, every Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings, three times a week, taking the schedule slot over from "Jigoku Shoujo" "Basilisk" which shall have its last episode aired around then. On the other hand, Jigoku Shoujo is also going to be aired on every Wednesday starting June 27 2007, but since it is not the first time it will be airing in Malaysia (it was aired on Animax), I'll skip talking about it.

If I'm not mistaken, that shall make Malaysia the second country to have the "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" aired to everyone for free on national television after Japan, the country of origin itself! Just to simply put it, Haruhiism shall have a bigger exposure among my fellow Malaysians! That's a really good news, in my opinion. I really have to thank the person behind all this in NTV7 who had arranged everything in order to have this absolutely wonderful anime series aired for everyone in Malaysia. However, I must still say that it's a pity that they have to choose such a bad programme slot timing. Yeah I know, they weren't supposed for kids, right? Don't tell me that. I know that already.

To be truthful, I was rather surprised by the fact that the people over at NTV7 were able to obtain the license for public broadcasting of the anime so soon. Perhaps it might be due to the fact that there isn't much competition...

To those of you who aren't farmilar with "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" (I suppose most of you would. Who wouldn't?), it is an anime adapted from the light novels which were written by Tanigawa Nagaru. The novels were also translated into Chinese for fans in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and all parts of the world, including Malaysia (you can try looking for them in Kinokuniya). The whole story is mainly about the life of a typical male student of a senior high school nicknamed "Kyon", who had been dealing with supernatural beings that surrounds him from the very first day of school. He met with Suzumiya Haruhi, a hyperactive, beautiful teenage girl in his class who happened to have no interest in normal human beings. The two ended up creating a club which was named the "SOS Brigade", and the main aim of the club is to "Save the world by overwhelming it with fun together with aliens, espers and time travellers" (Suzumiya Haruhi Brigade). Slowly, three new members joined the club, but without the knowledge of Haruhi, the three had approached Kyon and confessed that they are not actually human beings. From there on, their adventures go on from simple activities from fliming a movie for the school festival and joining a baseball competiton to dealing with aliens and giants that appear within closed space.

I may not sound that convincing, but I'm telling you this: If you haven't watch "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya", you really should. It's one of the best animes ever created, in my opinion, at least story-wise.

What do they have to say about it? Comic Fiesta Forums. GempakStarz Forums. But none from Darren yet. I don't suppose Kurogane or [info]fatcatlim would talk about it since they don't usually do, but who knows?

No. I don't think NTV7 are obtain the license for public broadcasting Suzumiya Haruhi. Because The official site, fansite and other site are no such news. You see, taiwan is broadcasting Suzumiya Haruhi right now, and it written right in the site! Korea are going to broadcasting Suzumiya Haruhi too, and the news are in the site! Which could only mean, they don't even have the license! Sue the NTV7!

Yeah, go sue them. Go sue everyone. Nothing in Malaysia is licensed anyways. Note my Singapore trip post. =\

Well, one thing's for sure: It was never licensed for distribution in Malaysia. You might want to look for bootlegs or maybe fansubs.

Unfortunately, as it's already licensed in the US, the fansub groups have already ceased distributing the fansubbed eps. Or, do you know where I can still obtain them? :(

That's bad not to have license and airing it on TV. And what weird time slot to broadcast it! Oh well...
