AboutI created this site for people who suffer from Borderline Personality Disorder. I, myself suffer from BPD. I know first hand what it is like to live with this disorder. Others may join if they suffer from some of the symptoms of the disorder. BPD is one of the most under diagnosed Disorders. Having said that, I will list the criterion.
The Relentless Search for Mr/Mrs. Right
Critertion 1. Unstable and intense interpersonal relationships, with marked shifts in attitudes toward others (from idealization to devaluation or from clinging dependency to isolation and avoidance), and prominent patterns of manipulation of others.
The Impulsive Character
Criterion 2. Impulsiveness in at least two areas that are potentially self-destructive, e.g., chemical abuse, sexual promiscuity, gambling, shoplifting, excessive spending, overeating, anorexia nervosa, or bulimia.
Radical Mood Shifts
Criterion 3. Affective instability: marked shifts from baseline mood to depression, irritability, or anxiety, usually lasting a few hours and only rarely more than a few days.
Raging Bull
Criterion 4. Inappropriate, intense anger, or lack of control of anger, e.g., frequent displays of temper, constant anger, recurrent physical fights.
Pleas for Help
Criterion 5. Recurrent suicidal threats, gestures, or behavior, or self-mutilating behaviors.
Who Am I
Criterion 6. Marked and persistent identity disturbance manifested by uncertainty in at least two of the following: self-image, sexual orientation, long-term goals or career choice, type of friends desired, perferred values.
Always Half Empty
Criterion 7. Chronic feelings of emptiness or boredom.
"Others Act Upon Me, Therefore I Am"
Criterion 8. Frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment.
I got this list of 8 criteria's defining BPD from the book: "I Hate you, Don't leave me." This list of criteria is in the DSM-III-R.
