The first person Kitty had met upon arriving at her new school was Mister Frosty himself, Robert Louis Drake. He was the first student at the newly established Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, and he was not looking happy. Kitty didn't think she would be particularly happy either if she had been standing knee deep in a pile of snow in the middle of August. She also hadn't meant to giggle at him as she got out of the taxi, earning her the first of many very pitiful looks from the ice blue eyes of Bobby Drake.

Kitty was the second student to arrive at the mansion, and for a whole three glorious days, they had the mansion almost to themselves. Their teachers, who they didn't have to worry about until the start of the semester, were around, exchanging amused glances as the two fourteen year olds ran around the house acting as if they were five. If anyone found it strange that Kitty would occasionally end up a floor or two below very suddenly, or that Bobby left frosty footprints all over the mansion, no one seemed to notice it until the arrival of the third student, the brash Jubilation Lee.

Jean Grey and Ororo Munroe - also known as Storm - had been to California to pick the young orphan up. Kitty and Bobby had been warned that she would be arriving, but they had forgotten in the excitement of sliding down the banisters. They'd landed in a tangle of limbs at Jubilee's feet as she stood on the threshold. Kitty's leg was half through the floor, and they were both covered in snow.

They stared up at the new resident, not sure how to react. Both were biting back the desire to giggle furiously, Kitty's cheeks starting to be stained a dull pink with mortification. After a few moments, Jubilee grinned widely at them both, taking off up the stairs.

"Last one to the bottom's a rotten egg! And you better not cover me in snow, ice boy."

Three more students would arrive to complete the first class at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. About three weeks after Jubilee arrived; a young mutant from Australia arrived, casting his gaze around at the other three without saying a word to anyone for at least a week. He finally spoke when he found himself lodged next to a block of ice after his roommate had a nightmare – if you count swearing profusely speaking. He never actually said anything about it, but the next time he and Bobby were in the Danger Room, Bobby's hair quickly went up in flames. Bobby stopped gelling his hair before training after that.

The final two students arrived on the same day, a month after John Allerdyce arrived. Theresa Cassidy and Piotr Rasputin were both foreign students – Theresa coming from Ireland and Piotr from Russia. Neither of them could be understood when they talked, 'Tessa' because of her heavy Irish accent and Piotr simply because he didn't speak English.

This didn't particularly stop them making friends. Tessa was the first person to get more than a snarl or a curse from the hot headed Australian, coaxing him out of his sulking to rant about how much Americans suck and how neither of them should ever go out to karaoke, ever. This did not stop Tessa convincing the Professor to buy the karaoke game for the school's PS2 nor bullying John into singing late into the night with her.

When Piotr arrived, the first room he found was the art room, and it took a great amount of effort on everyone's part to try and get him out of there.

Bobby had tried first, trying to convince Piotr to help him learn how to make better ice sculptures. He'd been politely turned down – "I do not sculpt, sorry."

It was Tessa's turn next, trying to get Piotr to join her and John in their late night karaoke sessions. Like Bobby, she was also politely turned down – "I do not sing, sorry."

Jubilee was convinced she'd be the lucky third try, trying to get Piotr to go shopping with her so he could get new clothes. She hadn't even gotten a polite response, just a flat stare.

Kitty was the only person who didn't try and convince Piotr that he should come out of the room. In all honesty, she was too shy to approach him – she'd been struck dumb when she'd seen him, over six feet of dark and brooding Russian and strange things start happening in her stomach. So she avoided the art room when she could, stammering and flustering when she spoke up in art class.

The first time they came properly face to face was during Xavier's Christmas party. Bobby and Jubilee had been in charge of the decorations, and everything was either covered in snow or draped with mistletoe.

Kitty had spent most of the time dodging the mistletoe, not really wanting to be caught by Bobby, who had already managed to catch Jubilee and Tessa and had kissed them with various degrees of success. Kissing Tessa had earned him a slap and a glare from John, kissing Jubilee had gotten him draped with a tiny Chinese girl.

After their third kiss, Kitty had decided she was probably safe from Bobby's advances, so she ventured out, looking for a glass of punch and definitely not looking for Piotr, why would she do that? She was so busy not looking for him that she was surprised when she turned around and banged straight into his chest. She couldn't even squeak, she was too surprised to see him. She peeked a look up at him, her cheeks a bright red.

"I… I'm sorry. I should pay attention to where I'm going. Uh... yeah. Sorry." She looks down, trying to sneak off.

"Waaaaait a second!" Bobby and Jubilee were doing a strange we're-kissing-under-the-mistletoe kind of dance, at least until Jubilee had spotted her room mate standing under the mistletoe with the Russian. "You two are under the mistletoe! You have to kiss now!"

Kitty blushed even more, shooting a glare at Jubilee. "Jubilee!" She said despairingly, not looking at Piotr. And she definitely wasn't thinking about kissing him, because she'd never do something like that.

"Well, if it is tradition, then we should kiss, no?" Piotr's rumbling voice sent Kitty's stomach into a spin, and she peeked up at him again.

"Erm… I guess… if you wanted to. You don't have to, it's ok." Kitty knew she was babbling, but there was nothing she could do about shutting herself up.

Piotr didn't really reply, instead leaning down to awkwardly press a kiss against Kitty's lip. "Merry Christmas, Katya."
