Videos from the meetup [Oct. 10th, 2007|04:26 pm]

cos
I finally beat iMovie into submission... sort of. Well, I managed to extract a few passable videos from it, and replaced the two I tried to post on YouTube earlier that YouTube kept getting confused by. So, here are a few of my videos from the xkcd meetup

Includes one of [info]underwatercolor enhancing T-shirts.

If you're in one of the videos and wanna identify yourself by LJ name, please comment.

is anyone else kind of disappointed that he hasn't made a blog post or a comic about the event?

I didn't make it to Massachusetts on Sunday, but xkcd was still celebrated. Deliciously! And it's a good thing we took pictures, because these went quickly. )

Still more pics [Sep. 24th, 2007|08:27 am]

shadesong
My pics are over here - includes a few of those fan-drawn panels, the park's new sign, the raptor with the boom box, the proximity-to-cat cake, et cetera.

(The wee ponytailed girl is my daughter, is why she's in so many. She was initially skeptical about wandering over to a park because a webcomic said so, but she ended up seriously getting into it. :) )

attendance [Sep. 24th, 2007|01:34 am]

gravitrue
So I asked a few friends how many people they thought were in attendance.

One guessed about a thousand, based on his periodic experience of an 8000 sqft ballroom with 1000 seated people in it.

By rough estimate (putting up the sat pic on google maps, tearing a piece of paper to match the 50' legend on the pic, and using it to measure on the screen) that park is around 28,000 sqft, and it was pretty full; even at the fringes by the t-shirt stand, I rarely had 50 sqft to myself. That's 560 people less the area covered by foliage and furnishings. But 50 is the roomiest; the jungle gym and crowd by the fence where Randall Munroe was talking were probably more like 4 sqft/person.

Another indicator is that off the top of my head a few minutes ago I listed fifty people I know who I saw there. I may be forgetting as many as another fifty. I don't think I recognized more than 1 in 10 people in the crowd, and quite possibly half that, which puts it into the 500-2000 range.

Conservatively, there must have been six hundred there, and a thousand is certainly possible.

Yow.

(At 02:38, on the other hand, there were 3 people there, but I wasn't one of them; if only I'd noticed the comic had been changed I would have gone over).

missing camera [Sep. 23rd, 2007|04:32 pm]

cos
[info]underwatercolor, who was spraypainting T-shirts here at the meetup all afternoon, is missing his camera. It's a Canon digital SLR, last seen by the T-shirt table.

If you have any clues, you can text messge me through my LJ userinfo page, or comment here.
