 | 05:50 pm - Can I Make a Request? This may not be a new idea, but I have not seen a post for it as of yet. Being that I am not a developer, I do not have the skills necessary to perform such a task. But i would like to see an Application developed specifically for the iPhone, that will allow users optimized views to post and view friends pages etc. Much like xJournal has the ability to do. I would find this very useful as you might have guessed because I am an iPhone user.

 | 12:29 pm - Just a little problem... I'm having an issue with xjournal. And up until this week I wasn't having this problem. So I thought I'd throw it out here in this community and see if anyone else is having the same OR has experienced this before.
I log in, and that is fine but I have multiple logins, cause I'm just different like that. I've got several journals that I post to weekly. Anyhow, the main login seems to be fine. I've connected and posted, so I'm cool with the main login. But when I try to log into any of the other accounts, I get the follow error message:
Could not log in
Could not complete operation. The server did not report whether the operation succeeded or not. This usually means there is a problem with the server.
Please wait and try again later.
So am I doing something wrong? What did I do to get this, how do I set it back to working? Any ideas anyone? I really like xjournal the interface and up until now I've been using xjournal for, what, the last 2 years with no issues.
Thanks for your help and input! ~la casa del sol

 | 12:28 am - Text formatting I'm not sure if this has been covered, but how do you left- or right-adjust text in xjournal?? I came from Semagic and xjournal seems to have most of the functions I need covered, except to flush text. Am I missing something or there's no such thing in xjournal?

 | 11:34 pm - Bugs Haven't done anything for a while with Xjournal because I only had sporadic access to a Mac. Now I have 24/7 access to a Mac again.
Yesterday I worked out a fix for the bug where Xjournal was writing "null" instead of creating iTMS links, as mentioned here and here, and I have a plan to fix the "crowded" interface.
Anyway the point of this post is, what other bugs would you guys/girls like to see fixed? Not that I guarantee I'll have the skill or the time to fix all suggestions, but please give me an idea where I should focus next.

 | 09:10 pm I have a Mac with Intel, and I was wondering if this is the client I should use to be able to get Rich Text formatting as opposed to only HTML. If not could someone point me in the right direction? Or if there is no client that does that could someone show me if there is a list of codes for all the things that Rich Text does? Thanks so much!

 | 10:18 pm - Unoffical Xjournal 1.0.6 Beta 4 release This is a minor bug fix update. The memory leak fix in my previous release causes Xjournal to crash on Intel Macs running Tiger. It seems to run quite happily on PPC Macs with Tiger and Leopard on either platform, but I've backed out that patch for now.
If you have 1.0.6 Beta 3 installed Sparkle should detect the update and offer to install it for you, otherwise...

 | 07:55 pm - Help I can usually edit the last entries on my own journal but I still can't seem to figure out how to re-open and edit an entry I have made in a community. I have tried opening the Xjounal client and changing the "journal:" section to the community and then click on open recent. That doesn't work. Suggestions? Thanks

 | 12:10 pm - Forgetting password I recently changed my LJ password. I do that every year. For some reason, xJournal now forgets my new password when I quit it. Every time I quite, it forgets my new password. Is there a way I can edit preferences manually to make sure it remembers it? I've trashed the preferences. I've uninstalled and reinstalled fresh. Nothing works.

 | 07:34 pm - help? ok... so i used xjournal a long time ago and download two years of posts... and now I have another couple years I'd like to download and then delete them from LJ.... I've done refresh and download under history but i still only see 2003 and 2004 in the list.... can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? And then remind me how to delete batches of entries from the LJ site? I think I use to know how this works and now I can't seem to figure it out and documentation isn't helping...
thanks :-)

 | 03:27 am - Unofficial Xjournal 1.0.6 Beta 3 now available Here is an unofficial release of Xjournal with a few updates.
Firstly this version removes a small memory leak I introduced with my Leopard compatibility patch. Sorry about that. It also includes a fix that will hopefully stop the history.plist corruption that some people get the first time they try to use the History feature.
I've added two new features. Promoted by recent posts by amalthya and undoing_, Xjournal will now autosave your entries every thirty seconds, so hopefully there is less chance of your edits disappearing before you have a chance to post them. I've also changed the "Check for Updates" feature to use Sparkle Plus, so Xjournal will not just check for updates but actually offer to download and install them itself. It also lets you optionally submit anonymous statistics on your Macs, so we can see which types of machines Xjournal is being run on, making it easier to determine whether to maintain compatibility with older versions of Mac OS X.
I currently only have access to PowerPC Macs, so none of this has been tested on an Intel Mac. If some brave soul can test it on their Intel Mac and let us know if it works, that would be appreciated.
Last thing, at some point I hope these changes will be incorporated into an official build, at which point it will be really easy to seamlessly redirect Xjournal to look for updates on Sourceforge instead of my own server.

I'm posting this last thing at night. I'll respond in the morning or more likely after work tomorrow if anyone has any questions.

 | 07:45 am - list-making tools? Hello,
Is there currently any feature within xJournal to make quick lists? You know, you highlight your text, and it automatically inserts all of your < li > code for you, similar to the other formatting shortcuts. If I am just not seeing where to access this feature (I'm currently running Version 1.0.6a2 (338)), I'd be much obliged if someone could point me to it.
If not, are there any plans to include this in future releases?

 | 08:28 am - Saving I'm a bit of a paranoid person, so I'm probably one of the few people who uses the xjournal "Save" feature while I'm writing entries. Over the years of Word crashes and my paranoia about who owns LJ and what happens if they decide to lose all my old entries, I save as I write.
In previous versions of XJournal, I was able to click Apple-S while I wrote and then keep writing. In this new version, however, (Version 1.0.6b2 (340)), when I save, the cursor disappears and I'm forced to click to my previous spot in the entry. It's obviously not a huge issue, but it's annoying, and it sours me on using XJournal.
If Xjournal did some sort of auto-save feature, I might be able to wean myself from my involuntary apple-s pressing while journaling :) Or, if they brought the cursor back!
Thanks!

 | 02:07 am - export/download/backup Perhaps I'm being extremely obtuse, but I can't find where xJournal saves (offline) journal entries that are "downloaded" into history.
In other words, the "downloaded" entries simply point to HTML that is on LJ's server, but doesn't seem to be on my hard drive anywhere. I've checked the Library's xjournal folder -- nothing there. Searched for anything that's named xjournal on my hard drive: nothing useful.
Help?
I've used this for years and just grabbed the latest for my new MacBook Pro. I vaguely remember being able to access offline entries as HTML files in the past -- but not now. Perhaps I'm remembering wrong?

 | 07:35 pm - xjournal opening the wrong friends filter Greetings - I'm an xjournal n00b, so bear with me. I've installed xjournal and set it up to check for updates to one of my reading filters. As far as I can see that's set up correctly. However, when my xjournal icon gets all excited and bouncy to tell me there are updates, and I tell it to open my friends page, it opens my full friends page, rather than just that default reading filter.
ETA: Now it's not blinking at all despite my friends page being updated.
Is it me? Is it xjournal? Advice appreciated. Current Mood: confused

 | 09:27 pm - Couple of issues PPC G5 Mac OS X 10.5 Xjournal 1.0.6b2 (340) iTunes 7.4.2
Two things are going on right now which I don't know if other people are experiencing or not. The first is that instead of iTunes Store links I'm getting "(null)". The second is that when I open the Glossary I don't see anything there, yet when I go into ~/Library/Application Support/Xjournal/ I see my Glossary folder with all the normal files inside it. Any ideas/solutions/co-sufferers?

 | 03:08 pm - Xjournal 1.0.6 Beta 2 now available With many thanks to amcmillan, an updated Beta is available that should work fine under Leopard. I've incorporated the fixes he posted here. I've also updated the "About" screen and the version to 1.0.6b2; the Check for Updates is still not working, though.
The update can be found at SourceForge.
Unfortunately, I don't have Leopard running anywhere on which I can test this so please post any experiences here. Current Location: Home Current Mood: working Current Music: Swing The Mood - Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers
