Rules of the Community- A Members' Guide [22 Dec 2012|06:45pm]

This community is for intelligent fans of the television show "The X-Files." Membership is by invitation only. The founders of this community believe that the main X-Files comm has become too overwhelming, so we created this community so that we might have a forum to have intelligent discussions about the show. If you are invited to be a member, it is because a current member thinks you are open-minded, smart, and able to have an intelligent conversation about the show. We invite all kinds of Philes, Shippers, Noromos, Fencers, Next Gen fans, Fanfic fanatics, whatever. Most of the members are VERY familiar with the XF universe, and discussions will reflect this. Newbies to the Philedom are not unwelcome, but there are some rules. But the good news is, if you are invited to join, you probably already fit them.

1. Do not post entries asking "just a quick question." They will not be answered, they will be deleted. If you do not know the episode name, look it up. If you need a particular picture, go to Google Images. If you can't remember which episode where Mulder said that line, look it up. If you don't know what an acronym means, ask a friend.
There are exceptions- if you have a mystery picture and you can't remember which episode it's from, and it's driving you crazy, you can post and ask. Or if you remember the plot of a particular fanfic and reeeaallly need help finding it, that's ok, too. Basically, questions that *absolutely require* someone else to answer are ok. Questions you can figure out yourself are not.

2. We want intelligent discussion. Please do not post entries that read something like "OMG MULDER IS SO FUKKIN HOT!" or "I'M WATCHING MEMENTO MORI RIGHT NOW! SO SAD! SO SHIPPY!"

3. No prejudice is allowed- We want all kinds of Philes. Sure, you can think whatever you want, but you will be kicked out if you voice the following opinions-
---All Shippers are stupid moronic sheep because they're shippers
---Fans of John and Monica should die because they're not M&S
---"Real" fans do not watch past [insert Season # here]
--- etc...

4. We like creativity- posts that contain links to your new site, video, icons, fic, episode reviews, etc. are OK as long as they're not, like, every DAY, and as long as they don't suck.

5. Negative, antagonistic posts meant to start stuff are not allowed. Examples-
"Scully and Mulder never slept together!"
"Monica Reyes was a moronic, unnecessary character."
"I think Mulder raped Scully!"

or (my personal favorite)"Eric Bana should be Mulder in the next XF movie!" :::grinds my teeth:::
Minority opinions are fine, but you must word them so as to produce a real discussion, not a flame war.

6. OT discussions about the actors of the show are ok.

7. We know the show is confusing, and while we said "no quick questions," there are some exceptions. If you want to discuss plot points in the show and want others' take on the situation, that's ok. Examples- "Why do you think CSM gave Mulder the chip for Scully, even though Mulder basically told him he wasn't going to join him?" "Why do you think Scully kept Mulder's apartment for 3 months after his 'death'"- this is ok. If you are confused on a basic plot, then ask someone else or look it up. Example- "How did Scully get cured of cancer, did Mulder really die, and who's Emily? - NOT ok. Generally, if your question can have different opinions, it's probably OK. If there's one answer that everybody else probably already knows, then it's not ok. Ask it somewhere else.

8. "Spoiler" cuts are optional. They're a pain to type and click. The show is 2 years off the air- if you haven't seen every episode, then sucks for you.

9. It is at the discretion of the poster to friend-lock their posts to the community (so only members can read them).

10. Yeah, we're elitists. But within the comm, there's no hierarchy- all members can post, and posts are not screened first. Simply being in the comm puts you in the upper crust, but if you annoy enough people, you'll get kicked out. ^_^ (elitists aren't nice.)
