Synopsis

After the kidnapping of an FBI agent, Mulder and Scully are called in to assist the FBI with an ex-Priest, Father Joe, who claims to have a psychic connection with the case.

The movie goes forward six years in time where Mulder is hiding in Scully's house. The F.B.I. asks Scully to tell Mulder they will forgive him and drop all charges if he helps them on this case. During the investigation their Psychic leads them to various places where the agent was attacked. Scully then learns through research for a patient that the government are doing stem cell research on the people they captured.

Synopsis

Part 1: After not knowing Fox Mulder's whereabouts for the last year, A.D. The Truth. The End. Where we find out the answers for everything! Not really though. It's basically an excuse to have a clip show of seasons past and have our fearless heroes...run away. And Mulder sees dead people.

I am so grateful that David could come back and do the last episode. Imagine if he didn't! Oh the horror. Because essentially as much as the past season had been about the new kids and the new mythology...this was about the past. And about Mulder and Scully. It was sort of strange to not have Doggett and Monica play too much of a part in this, but Monica makes me like her in this episode amazingly enough. Her rant at the tribunal? Awesome. Even her acting has improved. However, what is this episode about essentially? Well, Knowle Rohrer died. OH WAIT. He can't really die because he's a supersoldier. And that is the storyline upon which the very last X Files is based? Really? Yes. *eyeroll*

The X Files teaches us many things. The first of which, in looking at the absurd tribunal in this, it shows us the government is ridiculously corrupt. In XF land at least (real life? YMMV). It showed me personally that seeing the Mulder/Scully jail kiss can make my heart sing with joy and laughter. It was a dark scene though, because Chris Carter will not give in completely to fan wishes without kicking and screaming and metaphorically hauling down his trousers and mooning the audience.

I have a few niggles: 1) Skinner took it upon himself to tell Mulder about William. Really Skinman? Very ballsy. I can sort of understand preparing Mulder but it's Scully's job to say that, sorry. 2) We see Marita, Krycek, Gibson, Mr. X etc. That part is totally awesome! And I get the concept of Mulder seeing the ghosts....but my issue was when X gives Mulder a piece of actual paper with Marita's address. Um...3) Like I pretty much already mentioned, the episode is slightly ridiculous in premise - they go off on random past mythology to try to prove Mulder's innocence in a roundabout way. Aka. An excuse for a clip show.

[random]Scully: "I found it. What's gonna get you off." THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID.[/random]

Overall though, I struggle with how much I 'like' this two-parter. I like it superficially to see Mulder and Scully together again and to be honest, I don't know how else I would have ended it. Many things made me bitter, like ruining Mulder's name and having them both run away to leave their lives behind. I'm not sure how well done of an episode it is either (in terms of story and acting), but it does hold a strange place in my heart as the last episode of this show ever.

The end sentiment is really wonderful and I always just cry and cry. When Scully says "we believe the same thing". And after all this time, you know what guys? They really do believe the same thing. I adore the parallelism with the Pilot of that last scene, it's really lovely. Did you ever imagine things would be like this when you first saw the Pilot? Not me.

I do have a question though, when Mulder and Scully have lots and lots of Reunion Sex, all the ghosts of the dead can see them? And distract Mulder? How long do they hang around anyway after Mulder and Scully go on the run? No one knows.

In case there are still people resistant to the idea of Mulder being baby William's father (really, seriously?) it was confirmed verbally several times at least in The Truth.

David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson and William B. Davis are the only actors to appear in both the first and last episodes of the series.

"The Truth" featured the largest number of cast members in the opening credits than any other episode: David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Robert Patrick, Annabeth Gish, and Mitch Pileggi, bringing the total to 5.

Ok, so this one is about a man who manifests the brady bunch to life because he’s lonely … or something.

Seriously.

The second last episode ever and that’s what its about? Did they just stop caring? How is this even remotely scary/creepy? Oh wait, the brady bunch and their perfect ways are scary, but not really in an X-Files way. And for some reason it makes a whole lot of sense that Reyes is a big fan. She has that creepy, shiny, happy lets-all-be-friends attitude … maybe this is an X File after all …

Question: Why does Scully’s Wyle E. Coyote jokes in The Goldberg Variation make me giggle but the ones Reyes makes just fall flat? Oh right because Scully is adorable!

But not adorable when she mentions her missing lover for the first time in forever just because he’s … SPOILER ALERT!!! … going to tun up in the next episode. What about all the other times she could’ve made a Mulder reference? Oh and hey Scully, remember the baby you gave away? Shouldn’t you be a little more upset? She’s throwing herself into her work right? Distract her from what she’s lost? *eyeroll*

I really have nothing to say on this episode, I’m sorry, I find it completely stupid. And even more stupid/irritating because it’s the last MotW ever and its just pathetic. Does anyone actually like this ep? Because I’d love to hear some positive thoughts!

The date mentioned on the videotape is April 4th, 1970. April 4th is the birthday of writer Vince Gilligan's girlfriend, Holly. (Oh Vince, I think you made your point already, Holly is awesome. We got it.)

When Doggett is transported up to the roof and finds himself upside down walking along the rafters, how come his tie remains in the position you'd expect if someone were standing upright? Surely it should have been dangling down - he was the one being affected, not his clothes. But gravity doesn't seem to follow the normal rules here.

Goof: When Oliver changes the house to the landscape, Doggett and Reyes stand up from the table and walk around. While doing so, they cast shadows both above and beneath the table (impossible in itself), while the table casts no shadows at all.


Title: Sunshine Days
The title is a reference to a song that the Brady children sang in an episode of The Brady Bunch when they formed a band, called "It's A Sunshine Day".


Character: Oliver Martin
The entire episode references The Brady Bunch. The character of Oliver Martin is also likely inspired by "Cousin Oliver", a character who joined that show in the failing final season in what is considered the shark-jumping episode.

Synopsis

When an FBI cadet with amazing profiling skills approaches Doggett, Reyes and Scully with a lead on a suspect in a series of recent murders, he claims the same killer is responsible for the death of Doggett's son. Ok first off, the main thing I remember about this episode was the music. I'm a huge huge fan of piano and the take on classical stuff here was quite nice, I thought. I particularly love it (and the camera work) in the scene with the photographs on the wall, as seen in my episode header image.

So it's more on Doggett as we head on out to the end of the series forever. Forever. The end. This episode is sad as we go more into Luke Doggett's death and finding a suspect and all that. It's actually interesting for me as someone who's liked Doggett a little more as time goes on, so this episode is more interesting as well.

[tangent]Scully seems fairly calm for GIVING HER CHILD AWAY LAST EPISODE. Fine, fine, the eps are out of order as this is 9x16 and William was 9x17 but whatever. Still. Hello continuity. Especially as it is an episode about a son who is gone forever! C'mon 1013! I shouldn't care right? This was so long ago now and it's near the end of the series but I. Can't. Let. Go. These last few episodes would be like prime opportunity for Scully Grief as it's still fresh for her and they could at least briefly touch on it, but instead they have her traipsing about in frikkin Brady Bunch houses and $hit SPOILERS. It's bizarre. [/tangent]

Er, so anyway. There's all this stuff about the Cadet (with the really annoying lips) knowing stuff on the case and then Regali is murdered by Follmer in the end. Oh dear me, Follmer! And Doggett and his ex have a nice moment of "release" on the beach.

This episode marks the final appearance of Cary Elwes as A.D. Brad Follmer. Presumably, after he killed Regali at the climax, the video tape depicting his accepting a bribe landed at the Washington Post, resulting in Follmer's dismissal from the FBI, and possibly even being sent to prison on charges of taking bribes and murder.

The actor who portrays Cadet Hayes was actually a writing intern on the show.

The woman playing Agent Doggett's wife in this episode is Robert Patrick's real wife, Barbara Patrick.

I make no secret that I’m a Scully fan, which is why is saddens me to say that I kind of hate her in this episode. I understand her reasoning (I think) behind wanting to give the super!baby up. So many people have been after him and he’s only, what? Like a month old? :oP But just … how long has she pined for said super!baby? Ever since creepy little Emily. How stupid to just give it all away. She has a gun! She could just shoot anyone who comes near him. Oh and NOW she decides to show some emotion towards him, way to go Scully!

The constant back and forthness of everyone with is it Mulder? No yes! Its him! I know him! That NOT Mulder! drove me so nuts. For crying out loud. If that was Mulder then I am clearly the queen of England.

I like that DD directed this ep, simply because of the little character quirks (I assume) he gave everyone. Doggett doing push ups, Scully singing joy to the world, things like that. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong on that one, but they feel like things DD would do, you know, make everyone more human.

Also? Mulder and Spenders DNA matches? But they’re half brothers? Oh ok then. *headdesk*

The best thing about this episode is the blooper where GA picks up the baby, screws up her lines, chastises her self a little too loudly thus making the baby scream in fear. LOL! I love it.

The time stamp on the first scene in the X-Files office, with Doggett doing push-ups, is 11:21 pm. Chris Carter's wife's birthday is the 21st November.

Although David Duchovny is uncredited in this episode, he is seen for a split second, by Scully when she is examining the disfigured man, soon to be named Jeffery Spender (Mulder's half-brother), when she looks in his eyes.

Near the beginning, as Scully is in her car with William, she is singing "Joy to the World" to William, the same song she sang to Mulder while they were stuck in the forest in the Season 5 episode, 'Detour'.

The two doctors in this episode, Drs. Edwards and Newman, were named for Dr. Whitney Carr Edwards, who served as medical consultant for the last five seasons of the series, as well as the other 1013 productions Millennium, Harsh Realm and The Lone Gunmen, and Dr. Charlie Newman who was one of two forensic pathologists who consulted on the program. The other forensic pathologist was Dr. Carl J. Schmidt.

It's cute that this episode post is done for Remembrance Day.

Synopsis

When Morris Fletcher approaches agents Doggett and Reyes with information related to "Super Soldiers", they turn to the Lone Gunmen. The Gunmen, however, are knee-deep in a bio-terrorist's plot to release a deadly toxin into the population but the Gunmen find that they may have to make the ultimate sacrifice for their cause.

And now we come to one of the worst decisions of Season 9 - Jump the Shark. Appropriate name yes? Though I think the show jumped the shark quite a bit before this but that's just being picky.

At the time these episodes aired this one traumatized me enough. Then of course, William happened and that took over my rage and I kind of forgot how much this episode pissed me off. And it does. So much.

They bring in the most random BSy supersoldier reference - Yves was said to be one to get everyones attention. Do you know who Yves is? I don't and don't care. LGM show fans would know her but otherwise....Anyway, this episode goes all over the place and we find out the Gunmen's business has been crumbling due to Morris Fletcher (who's still skipping out on his wife I see) and it's a big race to find stupid Yves.

"Guys like that, they live forever." Call me crazy, but I think Langly's whole speech on Joey Ramone there was pretty much to the point of the entire episode. Foreshadowing not only the LGM's death but their heroism and longevity as characters. It's probably a way for the writers to excuse what happens or pacify it or something. It didn't work for me personally but it's interesting. Oh wait. I wrote that bit before I watched the end and they hammered that point into the ground. Nevermind. I thought it was nicer when it was subtle.

The Gunmen end up choosing to give up their lives for the sake of everyone else though in an UBER LAME WAY. Boo. I so wish Jimmy and that stupid bint Yves found John Gillnitz instead.

The theme of "The Lone Gunmen" is played in the first scene after the credits showing a shark swimming in the ocean.

Writer Thomas Schnauz (who gave us 'Lord of the Flies' and 'Scary Monsters') portrayed the 'Speaker' in this episode.

This is the last episode written by John Shiban. He wrote 24 of the 202 X Files episodes.

Synopsis

Monsters hiding under a little boy's bed may be more than just the product of a vivid imagination when agents Harrison, Doggett and Reyes investigate. They find out that there is more to the story of the mysterious death of the child’s mother who apparently stabbed herself repeatedly. Meanwhile Scully conducts an autopsy on a dead cat.

I have to say, it's clear to me now that you were better- equipped for this challenge than even Agent Mulder would have been. Absolutely. I mean your lack of imagination saved our lives.

Overall I do like this episode. I’m always a fan of the creepy kids. This one perhaps wasn’t the creepiest but was still good. I really like the ending with scary!Doggett and the fire. Why did it feel so much like Terminator 2? Oh HAI!! Doggett! HAI!! Mr. Robot!!! I have to say, in the kids imagination, Doggett is so much cooler. If he had tried to set fire to more children, I may have wanted to watch more.

I love Scully in the ep, she really makes me laugh – even though she’s been reduced to a pretty b-grade storyline. I love how she’s so put off from eating her sandwich when Leyla shows her the crime scene photo. WTF Scully? It makes me giggle because I think of Bad Blood where she was dreaming of pizza while cutting open a stomach, such a strange turn around. But I think the dead cat delivery is priceless and then the autopsy. Though Scully answers the phone while still wearing the gloves. Ew.

Things I loved most:
Mulder’s fish tank! I loved seeing it in Scully’s apartment throughout season 9. It so means they’re married.
Scully having Mulder’s ID badge ... and obviously out where other people can see it. I’m sure she looked at it for hours every night.
Scully’s apron. A gift from Mulder … y/y??
The nostalgia of all the Mulder talk! Agent Harrison might be totally annoying, but at least she reminded us that Mulder is indeed The X Files man and he did actually exist once.

While Scully was doing an necropsy on "Spanky", Tommy's rotting pet cat, her apron clearly sports the words "something smells goooood!"

In this episode we find Tommy uttering the famous phrase "I made this" while showing a drawing he made to Reyes. This is also the phrase spoken over the TenThirteen logo after the credits on every X Files episode.

Jolie Jenkins makes her second appearance on The X-Files on this episode. Her premiere was in "Alone" in the 8th season. She plays an agent that is obsessed with the X-Files, Mulder and Scully.
