XSIII Music
I posted this in my own journal a few days ago, and forgot to offer it to the members here:

I found a little .zip file with music ripped from the XSIII demo, and uploaded it for people interested in hearing what the music is going to sound like. It's tiny; 10 songs that are supposed to loop but don't, and only about 22MB together. Interestingly enough, I think what here's sounds more like Xenogears OST more than any other Xenosaga soundtrack, including the one XS soundtrack Mitsuda did :P. For example, the two battle themes in the file, very reminiscent of the Gelber theme/Ramsus's theme from XG (or "Knight of Fire", I believe it's what it's called.)

Anyway, I love it. Especially the reprise of Fatal Fight :).

You know, I think that they did go back to the roots for Xenogears. I can see instances here and there. Mitsuda in the Xenogears/Chrono Trigger soundtrack has a very otherworldy feel.. you can feel the religious/technological overtones through the music. I really look forward to this game especially with this music.

There are definite differences between this and Mitsuda's.. but there are also similarities. (most especially in the battle themes)

8232 though sounds very much like from something off the Chrono soundtrack.

8233 - That reminds me of one of the pieces of music that plays up in Solaris. Maybe the XS version of Jaws of Ice?

8307 - Faraway Promise.. that reminds me of. I am thinking that whatever that music box is playing will probably play in the ending credits.

Okay I'm done.. it was just my XG-geek coming out!

Thanks so much for these!!

Sadly I have to say, though... Compard to the first two games' music... This music is kinda dull IMHO. Sure, some of its nice but over all I don't really care for it.

Well, a couple of things to that--

One, have you been paying attention to the trailers? Kajiura has some REALLY nice stuff in many of those. Two, I think a lot of this is battle and area music--it looks like they're having her do the real "background" music along with orchestrating the movie scene soundtrack. So of course this is going to be a little dull--but compare the aforementioned "Knight of Fire" off the Xenogears soundtrack, to, say, "Alpha and Omega" or maybe even "Omen". It's pretty pedestrian, too; interesting to listen to, but not quite as sweeping as the stuff that plays in the background of the big story scenes.

Of course I've been paying attention to the trailers. I can't say any of that music is sweeping either. I just don't care for it as much as the other two soundtracks, that's all. Then again, It IS too early to say since these are only a few random tracks. I will wait for the soundtrack before I truely judge. All I'm saying is that I don't completely like what I hear after these samples. I'm the kind of gal who has to like the battle music to an RPG to even remotely tolerate the battles. I'm just weird like that. ^^; But like I said, I shouldn't be judging just yet. Who knows. Maybe when I get to listen to the soundtrack and better hear the music to the cutscenes, I'll change my mind.

This is probably because a lot of fans--and yes, I am pointing fingers here--have complained Yuki Kajiura wasn't Yasunori Mitsuda, so OMG SHE SHOULD GO. If I were forced to resolve my (completely incompatible) musical style with another one, I'd probably not do quite as well, either.

But, yeah, probably not a good idea to judge the entire game's OST right off the bat; wait for them to release the full thing first.

The only thing out of the entire demo that may have slightly bothered me was the battle system, but that's mainly because it feels so incredibly simplified in comparison to Episode II's. Okay, and the music for the interior of the demo's dungeon, because it almost seems like elevator music to me. Still, that's not going to stop me from playing the game by any stretch of the imagination. The rest of the soundtrack is totally <3, I can't wait for the official one to be released- I'll be all over that baby.

I love the use of chimes in some of these pieces; the really staccato rhythm is love, and a good choice on Kajiura's part. Especially if this is battle music; it'll give things neat pacing.
