A Missing Year

A flash movie that gives info on the time between episode II and III! It looks like they will update this in episodes to hype everybody up for the release. Hopefully they will cover all the characters.

Could somebody translate please? I will love you forever XD

Oh the voice of Tanaka Hideyuki and how it makes me wibble. I think I lived the moment I got to hear Jin speak. Ah Jin and Citan. Two Uzuki voices in ONE package. *melts into puddle of drool*

On an aside, I was looking at the other little section of the download page, and it makes me happy that Hitomi Fuchi's still on staff at Monolith (she drew the little SDs characters). But seriously, I really don't like the person that did the art for XSI+II and the Missing Year stuff; since they're trying to make it look like the anime, they should've rehired Nobuteru Yuuki to for the designs.

The Xenosaga I+II artwork is so umm... not up to the standard, I guess. I love Nobuteru Yuki though. It's too bad the animators couldn't keep up with his designs half of the time. But yeah, the DS art uhh... I know fan-artists who could do better and they'd do it for free! XD

They could have also considered using Tanaka... I don't ever recall him having less than extraordinary anime work. Then again, he might be a bit pricey.

I really hated the drawings for the missing chapter... godawful really.

I'm sure Jinx will do a real translation of this, but here's my quick and dirty interpretation for those who can't wait (like myself). :) My apologies if I missed anything - I'm trying to do this on the sly at work. Also I don't have speakers here so I don't know about the voiceovers or anything.

"Right now I'm collaborating with Scientia to try and infiltrate the principle division of Vector where the U.M.N. exists. Something happened that compelled me to quit Vector and work with Scientia. My companions and I were involved in this event, called the Gnosis Terror, and it planted seeds of anxiety and mistrust in each and every one of our hearts. I couldn't shake my feelings of suspicion and ill will, so without even being able to see KOS-MOS, I decided to leave Vector. I must see it with my own eyes. The secret I discovered at that time... all of it."

>next

"After the convergence of the local matter disturbance in Miltian space caused by Albedo, I went back to my normal duties as a chief at Vector. [Sentence I couldn't figure out. Something about paperwork involved with her appointment as head of the third division?]

Meanwhile, the Gnosis threat was growing day by day, and many planets in the Federation were taking heavy damage, but maybe I was starting to feel like that was someone else's problem.

Then six months later, I became very worried about my brother, who at the request of the Contact Subcommittee had gone off to investigate a series of Gnosis attacks."

Continued from earlier... (and fixed something that was wrong because of an assumption I had.)

"Contact Subcommittee Enquiry Concerning the Gnosis Attack

No connection has been found between the recent attacks. However, we have observed some strange behaviors of the Gnosis involved in these attacks.

- The attacks are centered around shopping centers and common areas, so it is likely that they are trying to target civilians.
- The Gnosis actions are not merely random destruction, but seem to have a deliberate method behind them.
- After the attack, all the Gnosis disappear within a certain amount of time.

Considering these facts, it can be ascertained that someone is controlling the Gnosis. [Not at all sure about the first half the next sentence... this is my best guess] During the first attack, we had the 100-series confirm that the boy had been turned into a Gnosis, and from the story of that boy we believe that the person known as "Grimoire" is deeply connected to this incident.

While we can't be completely sure, if we could confirm the existence of a leader directing them, it would be of great help to us."

>next

"The girl known as "The girl Grimoire" (er, this makes more sense in Japanese) closely resembles a unique type of realian manufactured by the U-TIC organization 14 years ago. However, because there are no records left of that type, it's hard to be sure she is the same model. Even the records in her own memory banks have been almost completely erased, and what little fragments of data remain don't seem to contain any important information regarding the current affair. While it can be said that the incident 14 years ago is responsible for the disappearance of her memory, there are traces of tampering and artifical evidence that might be connected to her current behavior."

>next... ehh, more later.

Continued.

"The attack of the Gnosis.

At first it seemed the same as the usual Gnosis phenomenon, so if I hadn't known my brother was involved, I may have never even found out the details. It was Juli who quickly recognized the abnormality of the situation and joined my brother in the investigation. What she found was an important clue.

She took into her care a mysterious young girl who was a witness to the incident. The Contact Subcommittee began an investigation of the girl and found that she was a special type of realian manufactured for an unknown purpose. Their report was sent to Vector, in hopes that the third division would aid the investigation. I was participating in the investigation as an anti-Gnosis warfare advisor, and I was startled when I saw the girl's results. She was related to the series of realians created by Joachim Mizrahi 14 years ago. Moreover, all records of her creation had completely vanished.

There's no doubt she was deeply involved. At this point I may have already tried to deny my belief in her existence. [unsure about that last sentence.] When it came to that girl, I was afraid of losing my peace of mind... however, my hesitation was changed to anxiety as the result of an urgent communication from the Contact Subcommittee. The incident had escalated into a state of emergency."

Then there's the voiced bit, which I could make out some of with the help of headphones. Basically, KOS-MOS starts fighting som Gnosis and tells Shion to stay back. Shion asks Juli and the girl if they are okay, and the girl says "That person came to kill me!" Doctus then appears and says some stuff I didn't catch... she accosts the little girl and Shion loses consciousness saying "Wait..." She wakes up to Jin and Juli who say that Doctus got away with the girl.

Then there's some more text. Note that the Doctus link (I haven't been translating these because they are mostly backstory we already know) says "A cool and collected agent of the underground organization Scientia." Meris, you've come so far... *sniff* The link for the little girl just says she is a mysterious girl under the care of the Subcommittee.

Anyway. "The Gnosis attacked the Subcommittee lab. This confirmed that the girl was the key to the incident. At the request of the Subcommittee I took KOS-MOS to rescue her. With a fleet of A.G.W.S. units, we broke into the lab to find Juli and the girl in safety. My brother has successfully rescued her.

However, when we tried to leave we encountered a mysterious agent named "Doctus." She belongs to an anti-U.M.N. organization called Scientia, and amazingly, she managed to disable [I think] KOS-MOS and steal the little girl."

And that's the end of chapter one. I really hope they include all this stuff in the English version of the game...

Just a note... In the screenshots at the beginning of the movie, Doctus says a few things in latin... I looked them up and found that the first one is "practice makes perfect" and the second one is "to err is human." I wonder if she picked up all those phrases from Alexei ;)

Actually, that should be "Grimoire's Girl" not "The Girl Grimoire."

Sorry about that - easy mistake to make, given that the two phrases are written the same in Japanese.

Easily forgivable, considering the length you went to to translate this. :D

Hm, I wonder who this Grimoire researcher fella is. Wasn't he around when LJ was around?
