Hey!

I used to be Straight edge then I let peer pressure get the best of me. Now I have coped on to myself. I have realised once again I don't need hash, magic mushrooms, drink or smokes to make me happy. I happy with out that stuff. When I said it to a few of my mates " I'm going straight edge" they where like yeah you wont last and just took the piss. I wanna prove them wrong and I wanna be a good influence on them. Get them on off the drink and drugs. But how can I if they are just taking the piss saying i can't do it, even though I no I can!

You shouldn't have to prove anyone wrong. Being straight edge is something you do for yourself, and no one else.

yeah... that's pretty lame. no offence dear, but (a) you don't need to prove anything to anyone, (b) breaking then coming back is kinda lame in itself, (c) it's cheapening the movement, (d) if you're going to do it for other people, you aren't going to last, but (e) if you're serious this time, all the more power to you.

everyone's going to try pressuring you into breaking again. if you break because of pressure, this time's going to be a LOT harder. just saying...

there ARE rules. hate to break it to you.

you're welcome to be clean, sober, pure, smart, whatever, but edge is a one time thing. if the scene allows people to move in and out of it whenever and however they please, the concept of straight edge no longer exists. if you've broken, you're not allowed back.

straight edge is not just an idea. it's a community. a whole SET of ideas and guidelines.

the weak are not welcome.

we are here to support you. youve made a positive choice, dont let anyone make you feel bad about it. who cares if the 'scene' accepts you?? why would you change who your friends are just because you made a choice for yourself? and to those who tihnk that you cant go back to edge - i broke edge when i was 12, i came back, and ive been edge now for 10 years. does that make me any less straightedge? how can there be rules for the dicisions you make for your own body? if straightedge is a community that excludes people arbitrarily, then i guess im not edge...

you're two years older than i am. must i bow? and don't even try to tell me that you FULLY grasped the concept of straight edge at 11. i've been edge for 5-6 years. you can't very well pull that whole older, wiser bit on me. i think i have an idea what the fuck edge is all about. straight edge is NOT just don't smoke, drink or fuck. if that is all it were. it would be a part of various religions, it would be a little something called 'terrified of disobeying authority', it would be ANYTHING. straight edge is something all it's own.

im just saying that clearly, as a newer member, you must have received some kind of handbook or something with all these "rules" you are talking about. cos i certainly wasnt aware of them.

at least i can fucking think. thats what straightedge is about. its not about excluding people, its about staying true to yourself.

youve been arrested twice right? so why is it so important to follow the rules of straightedge, but not the rules of our country?

fuck the ones who won't support you. straight edge came from punk, and punk is (among other stuff) about breaking the stablished values, so don't lisen to that "there are rules" shit. if you feel sxe again, the you ARE sxe. good luck!

i've been edge for 6 years. I ACTUALLY KNOW WHAT THE FUCK IT MEANS. she's been edge for what, 3 days.. and she has no idea what it's all about.

straight edge is not just CLEAN. it's different. if it weren't different, there would be no NEED for a label.

Most of you are dumb, Straight Edge started off as a small movement and as a group of people coming to a realization or banding together what people thought were "misfits" cuz they didn't party and drink every weekend. Named as Straight Edge, yes there's the saying "IF YOU AREN'T NOW, THEN YOU NEVER WERE".
But it takes a lot to realize that you're fucking yourself up for nothing and you don't need it. That's the heart of a straight edge kid.
So everyone get over yourselves, you're not BETTER than anyone else, you just have a better outlook on life and know that you don't need substances to keep you happy.

I think you can do it, I hope your friends come to a realization that they don't need it either.
