Hey everybody,

I'm a prospective transfer student and I plan on living in the dorms next year, and I wanted to know about the roommate selections.

Was your roommate horrible/ok/awesome?

Do you think your personalities/interests blended well? Or do you think you were randomly put together?

Was there anything about your roommate you wished you had known in advance?

Basically any info or advice on this would be welcome. I don't know anybody at WWU, so I want to know what to expect.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: Sounds like some people get matched up pretty well-but a lot of people don't. Has anyone tried the online roommate search

here's a story [Jun. 17th, 2009|04:40 pm]

800birds
a long time ago, maybe ten months or so, i met a boy named jack and we fell in love. we both lived in texas and attended a boarding school, and after he graduated and i finished my senior year of high school, we had serious plans to move to Washington State. i researched the schools and was accepted at WWU, and jack was accepted at U of W. i found housing, a job, and saved over three grand for the move. we planned to move down july first.

a month ago, i found out jack had been cheating on me, possibly for the entire time. he offered to move still but we both felt that wouldn't turn out well. i decided i would continue the move. i am 18 years old, completely alone, moving to Washington by myself. i don't know a single person. if any of you would ever like to hang out or meet up sometime, please comment on my journal or add me on facebook or something! i'm pretty scared. i move in less than two weeks.

So this time it's an entertainment center, or whatever they're called. I'd say it's about 4'x4' (I'm 5'7" and it comes to just about my chest). Nothing's wrong with it, my parents just don't want to move it out and they're going to give me theirs when I move into my other house next year.

So yeah, same deal. If you can move it, you can have it.

Donating Meals [May. 31st, 2009|03:19 pm]

I heard that I can donate my leftover dining hall meals to the homeless. How do I do that? Is it too late?

Is there a way to donate leftover dining dollars too?

Thanks!

I'm giving away this couch to whoever wants it. It's about 7-8 feet long. Very comfortable.

So if you want it, take it; you just have to come and pick it up. Comment if you're interested and I'll give you the address to come and get it.

Hello,

I am trying to decide what classes to take for fall quarter.

I am debating between a few English classes. Many of the professors are not listed on ratemyprofessors.com.

ENG203 Writ in Cntxt:After the Deluge with Tony Prichard. I am not even sure what "after the deluge" means exactly as a topic for a class. I think the teacher got pretty good reviews on ratemyprofessors.com. Any thoughts on the professor or the class itself?

ENG203 Writ in Cntxt:Writng Our Place with Ning Yu

ENG227 Intro to GLBT Lit with Kelly Magee.

ENG228 Society/Lit:Animals in Lit. with Brenda Miller.

ENG 239 Intro to Latina/o Lit with Lysa Rivera

I really hate essay tests/in class essays. I like writing essays (that's why I want to take english classes...)I just hate the pressure of a test format. Do any of these teachers have these? Any thoughts about the professors in general or the classes? Thanks a lot!

not sure why I didn't think of posting on here sooner but anywayyy....

I'm studying abroad and I want to sublet my apartment because it's amazing and I want it when I come back.
It is available from June 15-December 15.

It's a 2 bedroom apartment, literally 5 min. walk to the VU.
Rent is $750 a month.
Only thing you have to pay besides rent is electric (can run anywhere from $15-$40 per month) and cable/internet.

It's a nice place and like I said it's literally a 2 minute walk to the VU....it's in the alley right by Nash Hall.

When I get back in January, one room will still be available...

and renting out the furniture is an option as well....

Call me if you want to look!

Potentially a stupid question [May. 13th, 2009|09:34 am]

nature_song
This may be a VERY stupid question but I don't even know who to ask anymore because my advisor never responded to my e-mail.
I'm a sophomore, psychology pre-major, blah blah blah. This Summer I planned on taking a Summer school class at a community college in San Diego with hopes of transferring the credits over. The class is a social psychology class so I don't see why it wouldn't transfer over, but I didn't know if the out of state issue would play a role in it.
My question is, 1) do you think it'll transfer over, even if it's an out of state class (the school website seems to tell me only in state transfer equivalencies). 2) if you don't know the answer, where/who can I go to ask this question?

Thank you!

Summer Classes [May. 3rd, 2009|10:42 pm]

Hi,

I'm trying to figure out what to register for in summer quarter. I would like to take an English class.

I'm thinking about Intro to Fiction Writing with Kami Westhoff. This professor is not listed on Ratemyprofessors.com. Does anybody know anything about them? Any opinions you can share?

Or possibly Intro to Creative Writing with Nancy Pagh. She sort of got mixed reviews on Ratemyprofessor.com Anybody taken a class from her? Have more details?

OR possibly Introduction to Poetry Writing with Carlos Martinez. He got pretty positive reviews but I don't have much experience with Poetry writing. It's kind of intimidating for me. Do you think that I would be ok in his class?

Thanks a lot!

Who's successfully gained residency? [May. 1st, 2009|02:06 pm]

800birds
Hey Westerners.

I have some questions I'm sure some of you will know the answer to.

I live in Austin, Texas. I will be moving to Washington in late July. I was accepted to WWU but would like to deter a year to gain residency.

Questions - is this really possible? How meticulous are they about the residency process? I have some very specific questions I'll ask if I receive some responses to this.

Election Time 2009! [Apr. 27th, 2009|10:09 am]

notsoyesterday
[Current Location |AH, about to get my study on]

Happy Monday, Western!

Yes, it's another AS Elections post.

I want to encourage you all to vote this week!  I've heard some reasons why people aren't voting:

- "I don't know anyone running/I don't know why anyone's running."
After 5 minutes and some mouseclicks, you will )
- "I don't know how or when to vote."
Well, now you do )
- "My vote doesn't matter."
-- In a nutshell, YES IT DOES!!  Graduating seniors/students that won't be here next year may feel that it doesn't matter if they vote, and, maybe it won't - they'll be doing their own thing in the post-WWU world.  But, there are thousands of incoming freshman that don't get a voice in this election - seniors: give them one - give them yours!
-- Also, the voting turnout last year was roughly 20%, and that was the biggest turnout in a decade.  Imagine your English 101 class - probably about 30 people, right?  With only 20% voting, that's like only 6 of you having your opinions and wants heard.  Not a whole lot, right?  Well, get out there and vote this year, and be heard!

See you all in Red Square (hopefully it's bright and sunny) all week!
(edited for saving-space on your f-list)

Housing for next school year [Apr. 25th, 2009|10:46 pm]

Hi!

So maybe this is early, but I'm someone who worries... =) I am looking for advice on finding a good place to live in Bellingham starting at the beginning of September, for a year. I am a WWU student looking to find a one-bedroom to share with my boyfriend next year, preferably something on north campus and at least a little unique (this cookie-cutter apartment I occupy this year is getting me down).

The problem is, we just don't where to start. Should we wait to worry about this? Where do you advise we look? Have anywhere you recommend?

Thank you so much! X-posted to wwu and bham.

Hi! My name is Gabrielle Tousignant. I am not a student at WWU but I thought this would be a good venue to get a word out.
I just moved back into town and while looking for a job, I have a lot of time on my hands. I would like to offer up my time to people who would be interested in portraits. FREE portraits.
It's just something to keep me busy and keep my creative juices flowing.
